I don’t actually know Roberto, but everyone I talk to says he’s a super nice guy. And I know Arie very well. Arie’s a great guy, he’s a sweetheart. But he’s very different from me. He’s a European race car driver, I’m more the all-American type. But I think either of them would make great Bachelors.
I posted my displeasure with this quote on the other thread and I'm going to post it here. Yes, Sean, point out how "different" and "foreign" Arie is. Make sure you tell everyone that his parents are immigrants and that they barely speak English. And then let everyone know that you're the "real" American and by virtue of that, you're much better than any foreigner could ever be. Never mind that Arie has lived in this country for more years than you've been alive. He's still "different." What an absolute dick Sean is. I am officially through with him.
First of all, I'd like to say that I am most definitely NOT trying to tell anyone how they should feel. However, I wanted to say that I believe you may have misinterpreted Sean's comment or are reading more into it than is written. Sean is an upstanding guy with many friends (and ex-girlfriends) of varying races, backgrounds, even nationalities. I don't think he meant to degrade Arie in ANY way at all, and as far as I can tell, he never actually used the words "immigrant" or "foreign" in reference to Arie or his family. By virtue of simple fact, yes, Arie is a European race car driver, and correct me if I'm wrong, but that isn't exactly a derogatory term. I believe Sean was simply saying that they would produce very different shows with completely different audience draws.
Thank you Lori! I don't believe anything bad was meant by this. Maybe he even meant Arie is cooler than him b/c he is a race car driver? I know I won't change people's minds, but wow. I cannot believe he meant any harm at all by this.

Just an honest question; Would you consider Arie to be 'a pig about women' (and making sexist comments) when he tweets about Ashley Hebert having thin lips and being bow legged (and that being the final nail in the coffin for her) and also tweeting he wishes some girl he sees buying condoms to be hotter (''if only she was hotter..'') ?
(For the record, I do not think he is. I might not particularly care for those few comments/tweets he made, but just like Sean said and from what I've seen of Arie as a whole, I think he is a sweetheart and I really like him  )

Sean has said practically the exact same statements in every interview about the role since he was booted off the show regarding whether he'd do it and has also said that Arie, Jef, etc are good guys.
The only time he's really said more was during the interview with Kidd Kraddick on the radio. He said he wasn't sure how he'd go about picking which women to keep or send home if he was the lead. They asked him about dating minority women. He said that didn't matter because he'd dated someone of a different race before. He said obviously he would date women who had kids.

I like Sean, and believe that he is totally innocent too - and didn't mean for his comment to be construed as racist, or that Arie is "not an American".
I don't understand Sean's comment, but I think that he just meant that his background is different from Arie's background.
Arie's parents are European, and Arie was only two years old when he and his family came to settle in the USA.
So Arie is an American and grew up here in the states.
Arie, as a toddler, would not have any memories of life in the Netherlands before coming to the US.
So Arie is not a "European race car driver".
He is an "American race car driver".

was Arie born/raised in Europe or are his parents 1st generation European immigrants and he was born and brought up in the US? Arie is the only one who can know if this statement is offensive or not honestly and so unless he speaks out about it or confronts sean -- I'm not gonna think too much of it. You have to remember, these guys know each other wayyy better than any of us know any of them and identity is a very personal thing!

Even as a die hard team Arie fan I have to agree with you. Love, love, love Arie but know he is not perfect and has and probably will say things that not everyone will agree with. Those two comments he made last year are not my favorites but they don't make me think any less of him or make me not think he's a great person. I don't think Sean meant any harm in those comments and he said and has only said great things about Arie. I think, as others have posted, he was describing how different the shows would be and what kind of audiences it would bring.

Thanks for your answer  And I agree with everything you wrote.
I also know Sean is not perfect and I'm fully prepared for there to be some things he says or does that I'm not going to like. But very seldom do I think that 'one comment/tweet/whatever makes a person' (hope that made sense). Both Sean and Arie are going to say or do things that some people don't like and make mistakes like everyone else, that's just the way it is and everyone is entitled to their opinions, but IMO both of these men are good people at heart and neither being out to hurt others.

I agree with you. I wish Arie had not said those things and I'll bet if he is TB there will be things he'll say and do which I am not crazy about. But, like you, I realize he is human and on the whole a pretty good human. I also don't think Sean was intending any malice. I love Emily O'Brien and have seen she can be pretty snarky. I am willing to bet she and Sean have an inside joke or two going on and if she were upset with him, she would not have put it that way in twitter.

Wonder when and where this was taken? I didn't hear anything about Roberto being at the scavenger hunt and if was there, I would think that Sean would have met him.
