Aggressively boosting Sean as a possible F1 by producers only seems logical if he ISN'T really F1. If Arie's edit (and standing in the minds of viewers) is expected to go down after this episode, then they might want to promote a new frontrunner to take his place, but I doubt they would choose the real frontrunner (F1) if there was another option on the table to use as a smokescreen. That could be why Sean is getting all the attention now in the media, and being brought front and center by TPTB.

They are lucky this year in that all of Emilys top 3 are decent, credible options, who can be presented to the fans in a way that they will get behind. But I think it's still too early for them to start pushing the real F1, if he isn't already in the lead in most viewers' minds already. I suspect that will start happening in another few episodes.

Episode 5 is about near the midway point of the season so its not too early.
Most previous F1s have their positions locked in by the 3rd or 4th episode of the season and then their storyline just builds from that point onwards.

There's now an article on Wetpaint, "Bachelorette Speculation: Why Emily Maynard Picks Sean Lowe (Maybe)" that asks the same thing..what's the motivation for him doing this if he isn't the F1? I am not saying our spoilers are wrong..just wondering about the PR strategy behind these stories.

Last week, Charlie Grogan was eliminated and he did the usual media conference call exit interview. Then ABC sent a follow-up e-mail to add that Sean would be talking to the press too, to promote his first date with Emily on the London-set Episode 5. That’s ... unusual. On the call, Sean gave tons of heavy hints about being Em’s Chosen One, including that he was looking forward to going back and watching the episode because it’s where they kicked off their relationship and the sparks first started flying. He also said he’d love to go back to London. “I could see a wedding there, if that were in the future, or a honeymoon, sure." Why would he say all that if he got dumped and was broken-hearted? He’d have to be going along with some producer-driven manipulation ploy. Does that sound like Sean? Why would he help the show send viewers in the wrong direction? To what end?

Now, see, I had the opposite reaction--that they would never have the F1 do an interview at this point. My answer would be that he didn't leave broken-hearted. I could be wrong--I have no idea what happens between them--but I could see them growing to care each other but just not ending up in love. In that case, what's the harm? Keeping viewers guessing increases interest and makes it more exciting.

That would totally make sense to me...except that with the Jef F1 spoiler, pictures, tweets etc pointing since the beginning of the show to Jef, I don't understand any more. On one hand they don't want to promte Jef as the F1, but on another hand they already did ...? I am trying to get it.

TPTB aren't promoting Jef as F1; the picture of him in the Caribbean was posted on his Instagram. I haven't seen anything by TPTB that promotes Jef except for MF's tweet that we'll see plenty of Jef in tonight's episode.

I see what you're saying, Elyn. So, do you think they will eventually part as friends at the end - like Chris L and Ali - so there won't be a dramatic rejection at a FRC?

Their kisses in the screencaps here seem to suggest some feelings but maybe you're right and it didn't turn out to be love. And, Sean is ok with talking about it now.

I have to admit this PR move has increased my interest just to see what eventually happens.

Right, but that's not because the producers started aggressively trying to focus attention on them in/through the media, but because they came across as frontrunners on the screen itself from pretty early on. This season is unique because the winner (if you believe it's Jef) got a late date, wasn't your typical hunk who viewers (and the media) focused on, and was reticent about kissing Emily. As a result, he's become your classic underdog, and underdogs don't traditionally catch up until late in the game. After tonight's episode, there will still be 5 episodes left, so IMO it's still too early to start trying to convince viewers he's now in the lead, as they seem to be doing with Sean. Better, and more exciting, to let the lead switch hands now, and then again closer to the end.

Well to me the fact that he said anything at all is a tip off that he didn't win. They have never had a contestant that is still on the airing episodes (other than the lead) give interviews let alone the supposed winner. The tptb are trying to throw everyone off.

Well, let me just get out my Magic 8 ball and ... ha ha, just kidding. I have no idea. So far, their interactions seem kind of generic to me. He sounds good on paper. He's ready to be a husband and father. But with her specifically? I can't tell yet. And Emily seems to be open to his advances, but she hasn't gotten to know him well (that we've seen). Obviously from the screencaps, it looks like things heat up at some point. Maybe he's just a naturally physically demonstrative person? He did move pretty fast with the first kiss. Of course, this is just speculation based on the fact that he's the spoiled F2 and doesn't currently seem too broken up about it. It'll be interesting to see their date tonight, though.

You feel it is too early for the F1 to be highlighted and I don't based on previous seasons. This season episode 5 is when one of the F2 has his story-arch starting. Too early ?

Perhpas the F1 will be highlighed at the ATFR. That would work.
