Canada is getting is very own Bachelor season, and the man with all the roses will be officially revealed May 1.

But we stumbled upon filming of The Bachelor Canada at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort outside Victoria, B.C. over the weekend. And we like sharing (not spoiling – just sharing!), so here’s what we learned about the first season of The Bachelor Canada:

1) There’s just as much drama north of the border. We rode the elevator with the Bachelor himself, who was crying behind his sunglasses after telling a bachelorette in the lobby, “If I could end this right now, I would!” Sound familiar, Bachelor fans?

2) The Canadian Bachelor is shorter than my husband, who is 6′ tall.

3) At least one bachelorette thinks my husband is cuter than the Canadian Bachelor. Just saying. And I quote: “If [the Bachelor] looked anything like this gentleman, maybe I would have tried harder!”

4) We spotted several bachelorettes being escorted around by handlers. One girl was tall, with dark red, shoulder-length spiral curls. Another had recently been eliminated and seemed pretty bitter about it. There was a lot of profanity in her exit interview. And — my favorite part — one of the bachelorettes is named Bubba.

5) The Bachelor’s name may or may not be Ken. We heard him referred to as “Ken,” but maybe it’s a code name. You know, like Ken and Barbie… UPDATE: Online rumors say the Bachelor is former Canadian football player Brad Smith.

It was unclear how far into the process this was, but based on the amount of tears flowing, we’re guessing it was nearing the final rose. And given the timing of tomorrow’s big reveal, maybe they were even wrapping up the season at the Westin Bear Mountain?

We were told by the hotel that they would be staying a while — we know this because we complained about the amount of noise they were making on our hall.

We didn’t see anyone who looked like a Canadian Chris Harrison around. Boo.

The inaugural season of The Bachelor Canada airs this fall on CityTV, which also airs American Bachelor seasons for Canadian audiences.
