The Bachelor is heading south with what is supposed to be Australia’s most eligible man setting up home in Melbourne, with a bevy of love seeking beauties.
Melbourne is the new city of love, move over Paris, as the Victorian Government tips in to make the town not only Australia’s most liveable, but also the most loveable.
As the hunt continues to find the best bloke to front the new season of The Bachelor, Channel 10 has confirmed what this column tipped last month, that the show has quit Queensland and is setting down roots in Melbourne.
Expect to see plenty of coffee dates in the CBD laneways, winery visits to the Mornington Peninsula and the Yarra Valley, and cruises on Port Phillip Bay.
The feelers are already out for a sizeable property to house the lovelorn single star of the show and his romance seeking herd of potential partners.
Melbourne and the peninsula have no shortage of those types of homes .. someone is going to pick up a hefty location fee.
Osher Gunsberg will return as host. The show is expected to start filming in July-August and shoot for six weeks.
Interestingly the casting note for the show still refers to it as The Bachelors, while insiders say the preference is very much to go back to having just one hearthrob, rather than three, as the centre of attention.
Last year the bachelorettes were housed in a $14.5m mansion in Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast while the three bachelors lived it up in a luxury penthouse nearby.
Early seasons of the show were filmed at a magnificent six-bedroom, six-bathroom estate in Bayview, Sydney.
The show then moved to a huge property in Oxford Falls in Northern Sydney, before shifting to Le Chateau in Dural, in New South Wales.
The country estate featured five bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, an indoor pool, spa and gym as well as tennis courts.
Paramount Australia’s Daniel Monaghan, said: “The Bachelor franchise has been filmed in some of Australia’s most idyllic locations, and this year we are thrilled to share the love with Victoria. We can’t wait for viewers to fall head over heels for The Bachelor franchise against a whole new backdrop.”
The series is expected to provide more than 100 jobs for Victorian production crew members. The Bachelor’s move to Melbourne is supported by the Victorian Government through VicScreen’s Victorian Screen Incentive.

Over 180 Victorians will be employed by the show, giving the local industry the opportunity to train in an incredibly successful format, whilst simultaneously watching love unfold before their eyes.

And there will be even more roles - on set paid development opportunities will be on offer, with early-career practitioners given the opportunity to hone their skills on the production.

The series will provide jobs for more than 100 Victorian crew members as well as placement opportunities for our next generation of screen industry workers
