10 ponders “What do we do with Bachelor?”
Beverley McGarvey concedes there’s work to be done on The Bachelor franchise.
“The thing we need to do a lot of work on next year is around The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. We’re very happy with Celebrity MasterChef and very happy with The Dog House at the back of the year. So now we need to go “what do we do with Bachelor? Can we get it back to its glory days?” Often with those legacy formats, there are pivots that you can make, there are things that you can do, and shows like MasterChef and The Block that have been on the air for more than a decade prove that a format can go for a long time when you carefully manage it, and sometimes it’s cyclical.”
I’ve noted before the predictable format is arguably now more problematic than the casting, but the show could potentially work in a 9pm slot and BVOD lifts if 10 can finance a new 7:30 show (I’m just not sure it can).
I think next year if any, will only be The Bachelor or The Bachelorette but not both

A 9pm time slot is going to make a huge difference?? How so?

it can be a bit raunchier, I guess? Have an M rating instead of PG or whatever it has now. I can't imagine any other reason why they'd go for a later timeslot.
I think the format itself is just old and stale. I think the US ratings are showing the same thing, just IMO. It just doesn't reflect the reality of contemporary dating at all.

Very true @leavers The whole format has always struck me as much more American than Australian. How many Aussies actually go on "dates"? In my experience it's usually drunken hookup first, work out if you have anything in common later.
Moving the show to 9pm would take it into MA15+ territory ala Love Island, but even that's pretty tame compared to the early seasons. It would allow TPTB to introduce fantasy suites if they wanted to though, which might add interest given the right Lead.

Not if the rumours she's been blacklisted after what happened last week are true.

Seriously? If true, that is so stupid. Why? The season is spoiled by the betting sites pretty much at the start of every season and their ratings sucked, so nobody cares. These people...cast and production...are so bloody full of themselves. They should be doing everything in their power not to be cancelled and knock off the petty bickering!

Betting sites are different than someone being a part of something that breaks another persons (Konrad's) contract. Not as many people see the betting site odds and if an article runs it, it's usually a single line, not an entire articles dedicated to two people breaking contract and getting caught publicly.
In other comments: I'm all for a 9pm timeslot move, especially since Bachelorette airs during daylight savings and as the weather warms up you have more on your social calendar. I really don't think Melbourne and Sydney coming out of lockdown as the season aired helped ratings, but perhaps with a more mature rating / audience it'll revitalise the series. And getting a fresh, exciting lead who isn't so one dimensional like Jimmy was.

Uhhh....

Could be speculation, but the filming dates check out, and they don't match a normal Bach/Bette schedule.
Bach usually starts filming in March, and Bette in June, so I think there might be some truth to this rumour

“So I’ve heard from good authority that there’s only going to be one season of Bach this year and it’s going to have a male and female lead,” the message read.
“Meaning there is going to be a mansion of guys and girls co-existing like with Brooke’s season.”
The source also claimed that it’s being filmed in the Gold Coast as they’re “attempting to refresh the series.”
Last month, the official Bachie Facebook dropped a call-out for both “single men and women” to apply for the new season.
According to the call-out, filming is set to take place between May and July this year, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for an answer.

Also in Q3 is a new season of The Bachelor, a franchise which, after a challenging 2021, Monaghan acknowledges needs to evolve in 2022.
“Casting is definitely one thing… evolving those storylines and how they are told is, is another. We do have our audience watching on separate platforms and younger viewers are moving to BVOD. Bachelor has always had a core audience of 35 to 55 year old women, particularly. So we’ve still got a big base there that likes the brand. But it is about making it surprising, evolving the look and feel and how the dates play out, so that it isn’t just painting by numbers each year,” he insists.
“That is all on the cards for this year, 100%.”
The Bachelorette also returns in 2022 along with The Masked Singer, both from Warner Bros. Australia.

That sounds like double the mess to me.
