As the reality TV world has gotten back to filming amidst the coronavirus pandemic, one show has unfortunately been left at a permanent pit stop. The Amazing Race kicked off its 33rd season in early 2020 before stopping everything due to the spread of COVID-19. So when will the Emmy-winning reality show get back on the road? Here’s everything we know so far.

When did The Amazing Race 33 film?
It’s a complicated question! Season 33 technically began filming back in February 2020. But about three legs into shooting, the coronavirus pandemic began to take the world by storm, shuttering international travel and activities worldwide. As a result, The Amazing Race had to halt production and send its cast and crew home. Since then, there has been no announcement of filming resuming.

When will The Amazing Race resume filming?
The crew and fans of The Amazing Race alike have been waiting for the show to resume filming season 33. “We are absolutely chomping at the bit to get back out and shoot Amazing Race,” host Phil Keoghan told Deadline. “Keen to get the team back together. We have to make sure the world is safe.” With vaccines beginning to roll out across the globe, the show will have to wait to get the all-clear from the countries it intends to visit before things pick back up again.

I can't believe the first epi was 2001!!

In one of the articles I read it said they flew the contestants in private planes to keep them as safe as possible.

Here is some info on the Concept and all the work involved.

Prior to each of the Races, the production team plans out the locations and tasks that the racers will travel, working in conjunction with local representatives, each of whom Van Munster had initially had available for a different show.[6] The staff also consults with ex-military or federal agents that are aware of political matters in foreign areas, who may advise on countries or regions to avoid.[24] Van Munster and others will then travel the proposed course to verify the locations and identify needs for filming for the show.[6] The crew works with local government representatives to assure the safety of the racers while traveling through certain areas of the world.[22] Despite pre-planning, the production crew may be faced with obstacles forcing them to change tasks or even locations. In one situation during planning of the second race, the Argentine bank system failed, creating political unrest, and a new country was selected.[6][24] Similarly, after the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and the sexual assault of South African-American reporter Lara Logan who worked for CBS, the production staff considers Egypt to be "off the map right now."[24] While filming had started on the 33rd season of the race in early February 2020, CBS temporarily stopped production and ordered all teams and staff back to the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic out of caution, though stated that the virus had not been contracted by anyone on the show. At the time, three episodes of the season had been filmed and no new production start date for the series had yet been determined.[2] It has been estimated, by Van Munster, that over 2,000 people worldwide are involved in the production of any one season of the Race.[6]

We are watching Season 4 right now, binge watching a single episode a night. I love this show.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] You should try to catch Amazing Race Canada if possible. It is really well done and I think the challenges are tougher than the US version.

Thanks I will do. We totally stream everything now, got so fed up with commercial breaks. Not sure the last time I saw anything "live"!

We watched the first half of episode 1 (really 2 episodes in 2 hrs) and really enjoyed it. Phil said the first 3 episodes were filmed before the pandemic so there was a big gap before they filmed the rest of the show.

We are still trying to catch up watching old episodes, they were free with Amazon Prime but that changed on January 1. Watching Season 28. We'll get to 33 as it's the only one that's "free" and without commercials as we stream. Heard lots of chatter about how it was weird seeing the 1st episode because it was pre-pandemic.
