Rachael Kirkconnell - Bachelor 25 - Discussion

I apologize if this has already been discussed but has there been any formal claims or specifics of racism against the franchise?

I think that interracial and intercultural relationships can be tough under the best of circumstances (I was in one for three and a half years, so I have some idea.) You have some things in common and there are other things that you will never have in common. Hence Matt's statement to the effect that Rachel has no idea what it's like to be a black man. Well, she wouldn't, would she? Any more than he would know what it's like to be a white woman growing up in a small, southern town.

I'm not blaming him. He signed up to find love, or at least the appearance of love on reality TV, and he sure as heck didn't count on this. I think an aspect that isn't often mentioned is that not only did this create a private conflict between the two of them, it also created a very public conflict. I think Matt just didn't have the energy for it. I suspect there was a lot more to the story behind the scenes, but we'll likely never know about it.

I belong to the school of thought that Matt was never ready for a serious relationship anyway, so the reason for the breakup doesn't really matter in the long run.

Honestly, I think Rachael's been beaten up enough about it. I think she just needs to get on with her life.  I'm not excusing her, but I think enough is enough. I don't remember this level of vitriol/concern about Ashley I. when she went after Caila on Paradise (yes, there was some comment and disapproval, but it ended after a period of time.) Not even Taylor Nolan blew up this badly, and what she did and said was far worse -- again, people have pretty much moved on.

Did you watch the Chris Harrison/Rachel Lindsay interview? That and the fact alone that it took 25 seasons for there to be a black Bachelor should tell you this franchise is riddled with racism.

I think the most egregious example was casting Lee for Rachel L.'s season. IIRC, even a cursory perusal of his social media showed him to be a blatant racist. Thankfully, Rachel dealt with him quickly and firmly.

We also know from a poster on this board who knows Rachael K. that TPTB would have seen all her SM before she cleaned it up as they contacted her to be on the show. According to this poster she was nominated to be on the show without her knowledge. Thus, they have knowingly cast racists on the shows with black leads more than once.

I tend to be direct but in real life my tone is fairly gentle. Sorry, that doesn’t really come across online.

Reddit found that Rachael’s mom was an admin of a FaceBook group that hates on Matt James. It’s supposedly to support Rachael but all they do in the group is say hateful things about Matt.

Is the mother trying to compete with Mama Murray and Barb for the prize of worst Bach parent ever?

It’s important to point out that according to the same source, Rachael herself has taken actions to get the group shut down. She made her mom kick out a lot of members and then leave it herself.

It seems that Rachael has taken a lot of steps in the right direction lately. This is what she said on her stories last night:

@Sprite not sure. It was deactivated pretty quickly after someone found it so no way to dig into it & go further back. The screenshots of the comments I saw were in the last day.

Btw, wanna be clear that I’m not blaming Rachael for her mother’s actions. But this is just another reason Matt & Rachael couldn’t stay together. Even if Rachael’s genuinely sorry & committed to doing better, her family and friends aren’t and they’re AWFUL imo. So unless Rachael was prepared to cut ties with all of them, a relationship with Matt just wouldn’t work.
