Re: Hannah Brown - Bachelorette 15 - Discussion #2
JMO an apology from anyone anytime they feel it is necessary they give one is a good thing. It’s something many of us have been taught to do as a way of showing we understand what we did. In this regard, I acknowledge HB’s apology.
What I’ve never done is shower praise on a person when they have apologized to me. My approach to HB’s apology is the same - no showering of praise, simply acknowledging it is a good thing to do.

This right here!
I can only speak for myself, but the simplest of things at times are so overblown because of the need to needlessly praise someone for doing what they should do. The bar gets lowered time and time again to normalized people and how they behave. Good. She apologized. Gets kinda of buried in the midst of racial unrest and injustice, but carry on Hannah.
We are human and we are supposed to learn from our mistakes. Our actions moving forward will prove if the lesson was learned.

Could it be because the apology was to the black community as a group?
I think this could be the case. If she had publicly apologized to an individual then I would be curious about that individual responding. Just my POV.
After she apologized she continued by talking about what she didn’t want her fans to do and about what she planned to do herself and her hope that her fans might be interested in learning along with her. This is what she spent the most time on.
By acknowledge I mean I recognize in my mind what she said in her vid is a positive. I don’t see a problem with BN letting this be between her and her fans at this point forward.
@Idlemess
Yes, how I think as well. Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and it’s an ordinary thing. Rather than focus on praising an apology my focus with people in my life is to focus on how I can support the change they want to make.

Maybe because in the time since what Hannah did, numerous cities in America have been burning and people are busy using their platforms to focus on racial injustice and black men & women being murdered, instead of applauding Hannah for an apology that was only needed because she decided to use her platform to be drunk & say the n-word. For example I know Rachel was busy yesterday attending the protest in Miami.timfan wrote:Hannah has made her apology but bn is very quite now not even acknowledging it jmo
Hannah’s owned up to her mistake. Hannah said she no longer wants to be a part of the problem. She’s asked her fans to take this journey of learning and growing with her. Part of that is not expecting her to be patted on the back for doing the right thing. Especially when there are way more important things going on.
All jmo.

I was not expecting her to get a pat on the back but bn were all wanting her to say something verbally and not just a statement and to say something too her followers to stop attacking them and she did jmo

@timfan,
Hannah Brown is irrelevant at the moment. There are many more important issues to consider and discuss. All IMO.

@Idlemess Yep, you're right. Time will tell. Especially in light of the protests going on right now, I hope Hannah takes a hard look and asks herself "What can I do differently ... today and everyday?" I'd suggest going to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery https://museumandmemorial.eji.org or reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stephenson. https://justmercy.eji.org This book changed me more than any thing I've read. I've recommended it to anyone who will listen.

The apology was for POC not BN. Not sure they should or need to acknowledge it. It wasn’t for most of them (me included). IMO.

Thanks @Norcalgal. I didn't know there's a book for Just Mercy. I'll read it first before I watch the movie.

I'm just going to come out and say it, but I am not buying Hannah's interest in BLM. Instead, I think she is more interested in keeping her followers and felt pressured to make a public apology because she was being slammed. All jmo.
