Do they not think they will get called out for IMO lying. They aren't country girls and they aren't as Aussie as it gets from what I'm reading here.
This is an example of when leads think they are saying what they are suppose to say but it makes them sound incredibly uneducated.

Elly's whole trope on Matt's season was the "wholesome country nurse from Newcastle and Parkes". I feel like they tried to recreate her as Tara, and she fell a long way short.

I wondered why Elly's hair seemed so full in a few of the bachette photos/videos. I saw this video on her ig which shows her wearing some sort of extensions, and I listened to (most) of it. Not one Aussie ocker g'day or strewth uttered . She does have a lovely, natural style about her, but is the shilling version or the ocker country girl version the real Elly

Newcastle isn't really even country though. Its culture is more coastal/surfie and Newcastle itself is very urban.

IMO Elly and her 'country girl' shtick was one of the most disingenuous things I've seen from a contestant on these shows (particularly when compared with her post-show online behaviour).

I know I'm in the minority here - I generally like Elly, don't follow Becky, but I grew up in regional-ish NSW (family lost the farm when I was a kid, so we bounced around small towns), went to high school in Newcastle, moved to Sydney for university and it's recently hit ten years I've lived in the greater Sydney area. It's only since I got married and bought a house here (funnily enough with someone I went to high school with) that Sydney has felt like home.
Elly had a similar situation from what I can see - moved to Newcastle for university, and has kind of moved between regional NSW, Newcastle and Sydney over the past couple of years since graduation.
If Newcastle feels urban, that's happened since I moved. Coastal, absolutely. But people live spread out through the suburbs and out further and come into that beach/centre of town (well, Kotara more so for shops, CBD still seems pretty dead other than some strips of restaurants and cafes) in a way that is doesn't feel urban. I'm there pretty regularly and I can see that there have been changes, but it still has a very different feeling to Sydney.
My adjustment to people who had grown up in Sydney was big and I still slip back into the "regional accent" when I've been drinking or I'm watching sport. Yeah, you'll put it on to be on the phone (or to shill on instagram) and I have no doubt that there's some playing up of her being from the country, but I don't think it's as massive as others think. Yeah, I settled in Western Sydney and not Bondi, but Elly seems like she's back in Newcastle for now from what I have seen on insta?
I went to school with people who have scattered all over the world with study and work and some of their instagrams are much more exciting than mine, but I wouldn't judge them for still feeling like they're country at heart either.

Urban compared to Sydney, of course not. But urban compared to Parkes? Yes, and nobody in Newcastle talks the way Elly does.
I was born in Sydney, grew up in the general Newcastle area, and have lived in Sydney again for nearly 2 decades. Sydney's always felt more like home to me than Newy, but in all my years in Newcastle and the areas around it I've never known ANYONE from up there who talks like that. That includes the people who move there from the country, and there are quite a few.
eta my dislike of Elly has nothing to do with her accent or fake country persona, that's just annoying. I dislike her for calling out Abbie for being a wannabe influencer who was there for the wrong reasons when she (Elly) always had more followers than Abbie and had been making attempts at "fame" before Abbie ever had.
etaa: and as for Becky or whatever her name is, I honestly don't care about her or whether or not she finds anyone. I feel like they just added her because they didn't think Elly in a mansion sans any travel destinations was enough to carry the season alone, but for me it's the opposite. In fact I'd probably be more actively interested in the season if she wasn't there.

@leavers I wish I could like your post three times - once for the original comment and twice for the ETAs. I agree 100%

Yikes. IG is not impressed with this season already. Top comments on the latest post:

Has the mood ever been so negative before the show even starts? Does not bode well IMO.

Becky talking.... I wonder if this is foreshadowing.

The qualities we want are the same, but traditionally we've always gone for different guys. Elly prefers a blue collar guy, a country lad, whereas I'm usually going for someone book smart and professional.

Firstly: I think "country" should be added to a warning list of trigger words for this season because every time I hear or read it now my eyes spontaneously roll into the back of my head.
Secondly: How stupid to typecast themselves like that? I mean, we knew they would (gotta tell them apart somehow) but what happened to going in ~ with an open mind and heart ~?
I'm sure it's just TPTB spin anyway - they own them for the next 3 months. I have never been less hyped for a season. The boys had better bring it or this is going to be a complete snoozefest, IMO.

Literally this season is the first season where I don't want to see any interaction with the leads. If they want to make it all cocktail parties all the time, go for it! All the more chances we have to decide who we want to match up with who in BiP ;)
