Re: Garrett Yrigoyen - *Sleuthing Spoilers* - #2
I have a question on the order of the overnight dates. If Garrett was always the front runner, why was his the 2nd overnight date and Blake’s the last?

I have a theory on this. Jason went first as she knew she’d probably let him go that night. Garrett goes 2nd because she wants to make sure he’s the one. Once she solidified that she knows how far she wants to go with Blake. All JMO.

CH is saying Garrett's a slow mover and heartbroken. I'm not convinced:
1. The history of the quick divorce wouldnt seem to confirm that.
2. G shows up in a minivan and talks about having kids and being a husband on his first meeting.
3. He stares at Becca like he's ready to carry her over his shoulder or drag her out of the room every time he sees her.

I agree. This is the story line they have assigned to him to give those people who go unspoiled the doubts about him. Blake's story line will be hot and heavy and those same people will be sure that she chooses Blake. Thus the SURPRISE at the end when she chooses Garrett and he actually proposes.
We are not going to see a whole lot of the love story. We will be shown Blake, Jason and even Colton over Garrett.

I like your theory but want to add something. Maybe Jason left on his own (crying scene in season preview), and Becca wanted to be with Garrett the next day (Like Ashley H and JP after Bentley, Emily and Jef after Kalon ...)

I’m hoping they show the love story between her & Garrett so I can like him more. Also I hope they show (I think they will) Garrett explain why his marriage didn’t work. Could be a red flag depending on his answer.

@itsamanda It also depends on not only what he said or replied to Becca, if she inquired, and what is shown to us too.

90% of fiming is cut. So imo we never get a real clue of who the cast is. Example: Becca. The best idea I got of who she is 1) her eschewing her own sm values for his 2) her allowing tptb IMO to use her like a handiwipe.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, bye Felicia!

I am a long-time lurker that finally created an account, so I can't PM you yet I really want to know the family member you found on FB for G's ex-wife! I tried to do some digging originally and was having a tough time finding stuff. Can you or someone you know send me a PM with the info? Thank you!!
Also, everyone please bear with me as I have NO idea how to post on here yet, so I am working on it

Sharleen is queen IMO....she responded to folks in her Pretty Panda recap, long commentary but worth the read IMO. As we know she recaps the show spoiler free. Just posting here not to re-hash the issue but for folks to know that she did address the issue already as some of us thought she would only do so after the show has finished airing in August.

Hi all! Thank you for your thoughtful, intelligent commentary.
Juls, I COMPLETELY agree with everything you said about Jordan, Jake, and Clay.
As for Garrett, I'm so happy it has been brought up here. As I've stressed over the years, I make a huge effort to only recap what we SEE on television, not what we hear behind the scenes. (Particularly considering I sometimes hear a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that doesn't go public like Garrett's social media history has.) This is more challenging some seasons than others.
Obviously I couldn't disagree more with (what appears to be) Garrett's beliefs, and while I think his statement was well-written, my issue with it was how it minimized the act of “liking” and his knowledge of how "liking" a photo or statement supports it. I DO believe that he could've underestimated the extent to which people would suddenly take interest in him and his social media activity (I think there's a difference between objectively knowing you COULD become famous overnight and actually planning on and preparing for it) but that still doesn't really address the fact that he "liked” that content. If it were just couple of photos, or if it were a long time ago, maybe there'd be a little wiggle room. But unless he's "mindlessly liking" every. single. photo. in his feed (which I sincerely doubt), he's showing SPECIFIC support for what he does "like". And it's not like the guy's of some generation that doesn't understand social media; he's 29, pretty much the prime for Instagram and social media in general. He may not be so involved in it to know his "likes" can be tracked by strangers, but he's involved enough to know that "liking" something MUST in some way support it. I mean, it's LITERALLY called "liking". OR you tap a heart symbol! How much more literal could it be??
Max, I agree that possibly the biggest issue is that these things were not dug up from a distant past. To compare Garrett to Lee (from Rachel's season, and whose last name is coincidentally Garrett), I know the major difference here was that Garrett was passively "liking" content versus Lee's proactive tweeting, but at least in Lee's case you could ATTEMPT to argue that a few years had passed and he'd turned over a new leaf. Max, I'm not sure I agree that a couple can't work with vastly different political views (I know of precisely two couples where this is the case and their relationships are somehow intact) but it certainly doesn't help things. Especially considering, IF Becca ends up with Garrett, how famously hard the post-filming period is for the final couples, and that's WITHOUT these complications.
Elizabeth, I think social media is constantly changing not only how powerful appearing on this show can be, but also how the casting/vetting process evolves. For example, I doubt that before Lee Garrett the Powers That Be felt the need to scroll back over years' worth of tweets. (I'm sure it hadn't even occurred to them; the focus in my day was more on whether or not you'd been arrested, had done porn, or had exes with a bone to pick with you.) And I wouldn't be surprised if those Powers That Be have since gone over past tweets. But now it appears they'd have to go into that next layer of "like" history. I honestly think they're learning along with all of us.
Chantal, my desire to "play nice" (which honestly I'm not sure I've even done here) is more about Becca than the franchise. Look, this is moot if she doesn't pick Garrett, but based on the premiere episode I'd say there's a reasonable chance she does (given the Night One edit and this show's history with Bachelorettes ultimately, and successfully, choosing their FIR recipients). I think Becca's already been majorly ******(excuse my French) by this franchise (I don't think giving her Bachelorette makes up for the psychological damage done to her) and the last thing I'd want is for her to endure any additional trauma. And while I am wholeheartedly #TeamBecca (and I agree with her on all her political beliefs as well), I do agree that her statement missed the mark. This was well expressed in the Flare article Juls referenced: "While at first, this seems like an admirable sentiment—yay freedom of speech and not judging without all the facts—there is a certain irony to Becca asking her audience to “stay open-minded to everyone” when the contestant she is kinda-sorta defending is being accused of liking posts—and, ultimately views—that are the definition of close-minded and hateful towards certain demographics, such as LGBTQ and immigrant communities." (The article is here: http://www.flare.com/bachelor/becca-garrett-bachelorette-social-media/) I feel terrible for Becca as I think she’s in an awful position; I’m not really sure there is a statement she could give that would please all parties.
At any rate, I will try to recap based on what we see onscreen, and I will attempt to maintain an open mind about Garrett (though it may be challenging at times). I do appreciate that he gave a statement at all and that it wasn't just filled with cop-outs (eg. claiming his account had been hacked or something), which was my fear. I would like to imagine that maybe, just maybe, he WAS merely ignorant and that he really is learning and growing from this. In short, I'm making an effort to view him with the same open-mindedness I would like him to use for others.
