Dummy me I thought she split from him long before he died. I asked this because in one of the PI's in the episode where Bently left Ashley wondered if she would have time to fall in love again. I believe now it confirms in my mind that Ashley was not talking about Bently leaving but her ex's passing and her going to do the bachelor. Filming started shortly after his passing.

Ohh really? Sorry about that if that's the truth, I thought he passed away while they were still dating. duh

Yeah, he was definitely an ex when he passed, not a current boyfriend.

She started dating Joe after she graduated from the University of Maine in 2006, where he graduated from the year before her. And they kept in touch after they broke up, even though he lived in California and she was in dental school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

But just before she started filming The Bachelor, Ashley found out that Joe had passed away of complications from pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

They broke up quite a while before he died, but had remained friends. The main reason it wasn't brought up on Brad's season, is that they were not dating or a couple when he died. If they were, TPTB would have played it up as much as Ricky Hendrick dying.
