The Bachelor: Episode 2208 (2/19)

Feb. 13, 2018

ARIE JOINS THE FOUR REMAINING BACHELORETTES IN THEIR HOMETOWNS, ONLY TO HAVE THEIR FAMILIES QUESTION HIS INTENTIONS, ON ABC’S ‘THE BACHELOR’

“Episode 2208” – The stakes are high as Arie crisscrosses the country on an exciting, emotionally charged journey to visit the final four women’s hometowns. He meets Kendall in Los Angeles for one of most bizarre dates in Bachelor history, which is followed by an unsettling meeting with his potential in-laws. Then, Arie travels to Weiner, Arkansas, where Tia’s parents batter him with questions. The Bachelor’s next adventure takes him to Prior Lake, Minnesota, where he joins Becca K. for a romantic homespun afternoon. However, he comes under fire again, as Becca’s no-nonsense midwestern family is very skeptical of Arie and what he can offer this bachelorette. Arie’s final hometown date in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is with Lauren B. A tense, uncomfortable family dinner awaits him. A totally unnerved Arie has difficulty facing the four women at the rose ceremony. There is a gut-wrenching exit in store for one of them, but which one? Arie is left to question his hardest decision yet, on “The Bachelor,” MONDAY, FEB. 19 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.

Fans can go to ABC.com/BFL and the ESPN Fantasy App to play The Bachelor Fantasy League, which allows players to challenge their family, friends and #BachelorNation in predicting weekly events. The game is presented this season by New Olay Whips. No purchase is necessary to play. See official rules at abc.com/bfl for full details.

Kendall introduces Arie to her passion: taxidermy; but oddly, it becomes a romantic, if quirky, date. Her family worries that this analytical, unconventional bachelorette may not be able to fall in love, casting doubt on the couple’s relationship. A talk with her identical twin sister convinces Kendall to let her walls down and let Arie in for the first time. But will it be too little, too late?
Tia, the feisty southern belle, plans the perfect date for Arie that is right in his wheelhouse: dirt track racing in vintage sports cars. This lady has no problem opening up to Arie and letting him know that she is falling for him. She hopes her family will welcome Arie, but her overprotective parents grill him about his reputation for dating a number of women.

Frontrunner Becca K. and Arie enjoy a romantic afternoon of simple pleasures. She tells Arie about her tight-knit family, including her uncle, who is a pastor and has become a paternal figure for Becca K. since her father’s death. Her devoted family is extremely suspicious and distrustful of Arie and his motives. Can he change their minds and gain their trust?

Arie’s final hometown date with Lauren B. is his biggest test yet. Both this woman’s father and mother have a rude awakening in store for Arie. Her intimidating military father lays on the pressure and her mom, the real taskmaster, questions his future plans. Arie becomes overwhelmed with stress at the family dinner and must leave the table. Can he convince them that his intentions are sincere, or is this the end of the road for this couple?

Arie returns to Los Angeles for his biggest rose ceremony yet, but he is more confused than ever. His feelings are more intense, and he can imagine each woman as his wife. He has no idea who he will let go. After finally gathering his nerve, he does something totally unexpected, leaving one woman shocked and devastated. Her heartbreak forces him to re-examine his decision.

The four remaining women are:
Rebecca (Becca K.), 27, publicist, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Kendall, 26, creative director, Los Angeles, California
Lauren B., 25, technology salesperson, Dallas, Texas
Tia, 26, physical therapist, Weiner, Arkansas

Hosted by Chris Harrison, “The Bachelor” is a production of Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television. Mike Fleiss, Elan Gale, Bennett Graebner and Nicole Woods are the executive producers. “The Bachelor” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1 stereo surround sound. A parental guideline will be assigned closer to the airdate.

Bachelor 22 - Arie Luyendyk Jr - Episodes - Feb 19th - *Sleuthing - Spoilers* Empty Re: Bachelor 22 - Arie Luyendyk Jr - Episodes - Feb 19th - *Sleuthing - Spoilers*

Post by Lucas15 Sat Feb 17, 2018 10:20 am

Hometowns are often interesting; sometimes humorous (I still laugh at Jason's HTD with Naomi Crespo burying the dead dove her mother picked up); sometimes awkward or uncomfortable (like Ben's HTD with JoJo and her brother's skewering of Ben, or the flowers from JoJo's ex) but I'm hard pressed to think of any HTD that probably changed the trajectory of the show and the ending more than Brad's HTD with Bettina Bell. Here's the "Cliff Notes" version I copied from this article:

Reality TV World wrote:The 27-year-old realtor was excited and commented how she thought her parents would "absolutely love" Brad.
"How could they not?" openly wondered Bettina.
Bettina's dad then made it clear to viewers that The Bachelor was not the way he envisioned his daughter finding a second husband, since she had previously revealed to Brad she's divorced. "The fact is that her first husband was a wonderful, wonderful man," gushed Bettina's dad.  "She will never find anybody who's any better... Love is blind."

Bettina then told her dad that Brad's lifestyle as a bar owner; his lack of education; and the prospect of "moving to a place for a man" were "so scary" to her. Bettina explained her family's problems with him.
"I can't help to question it if my family's questioning it," she told Brad.
"I want to feel welcome, especially with your family," he told her.  "I might not have an education, but I'm sure intelligent enough not to judge anybody."
"All I can say to that is, I don't look that great on paper either," Bettina answered, which apparently touched a nerve with Brad.

"Okay... Wait a minute, because I kind of feel blind sided right now.  I really do," he said.  "I worked really, really hard.  That's what defines me.  So I've got to tell you, maybe I'm overly confident, but I don't like anyone questioning me personally.  This has hit me pretty hard.  I can only hear so much how I'm not good on paper.  I don't get that.  It's not like I think I'm this great guy... But I'm trying to meet somebody that I can actually spend my life with whether it looks good on paper or not."

Though Brad kept Bettina at the following RC he sent her home the next RC. Many (I was one but Wet Paint was another) felt that Bettina was Brad's real choice and after the disaster on HTD Brad could not pick her and didn't feel "it" with either of the other two girls and this set up the unique ending on Brad's first season. IMO the biggest problem on this date was not necessarily that Bettina's family were both rude and condescending towards Brad but the fact that Bettina sided with them and against Brad. IIRC several years later Brad did admit that he knew a couple of weeks before the ending that he wasn't going to find anyone - a time frame closely coinciding with HTDs.

So now we are coming to Arie's HTD and there's 3 potential disasters looming. From the Episode description here's the Cliff Notes:

Kendall:  Her family worries that this analytical, unconventional bachelorette may not be able to fall in love, casting doubt on the couple’s relationship. A talk with her identical twin sister convinces Kendall to let her walls down and let Arie in for the first time. But will it be too little, too late?

Tia: She hopes her family will welcome Arie, but her overprotective parents grill him about his reputation for dating a number of women.

Becca K: Her devoted family is extremely suspicious and distrustful of Arie and his motives. Can he change their minds and gain their trust?

Lauren B: Both this woman’s father and mother have a rude awakening in store for Arie. Her intimidating military father lays on the pressure and her mom, the real taskmaster, questions his future plans. Arie becomes overwhelmed with stress at the family dinner and must leave the table. Can he convince them that his intentions are sincere, or is this the end of the road for this couple?

As I am really curious to know the real reasons for the spoiled ending (but will probably have to settle for the story line the show will give us for the ending) I'm wondering - does Lauren's HTD change the trajectory of their relationship the way that Bettina's did? Does her family's skepticism cause Arie to feel that no matter how much he feels for Lauren - there's no way he can choose her? Does he recover from his verklempt moment (when he leaves the table at dinner) and surprise all as he did in Tuscany? Or does he react like Brad did? Does Lauren defend Arie or does she just heap more on top? Are we going to see the groundwork for reason for the switch - or is that something that won't happen until later on?

I don't know the answers here but that's what I'll be looking for with Monday's episode. IMO this is the first of several episodes that could really affect Arie's decision.

I don't know the answers here but that's what I'll be looking for with Monday's episode. IMO this is the first of several episodes that could really affect Arie's decision.

The initial "scandal" in Brad 1.0's season was that Bettina was a divorced contestant. That was groundbreaking for Bachelor at the time! As a change in the trajectory of the outcome, here's what I'm hoping to see:

Tia: Raven shows up for dinner with the fam, bringing the FRC dress from her boutique for Tia to twirl in with Arie. Raven reminds Tia that BIP, Bach Winter Games and the military guy she left behind are also options.

Becca K: The fam admits they are suspicious and distrustful because Becca wasted 7 years in a relationship with the guy who later appears in Peru with a lame bunch of tulips, pleading for another chance with his "girl".

Lauren: Mom & dad admit their wretched relationship created Lauren's trust issues. Arie leaves the table, returning with the photo of him with Lauren from 5 years ago to show that this is destiny!

I'm doubtful these are the HTDs we'll see, but this longtime viewer can hope... 2pop

So the photo of L&A will be shown after all. The part about Arie saying it is "destiny" is kind of funny though. I wonder if he will word it as such. It sounds like the family is going to be tough on him, especially the military Dad, so that might explain why Lauren ends up F2. Jmho.

I wondered if the clip of Lauren’s dad threatening harm on Arie was not at HT but when Arie comes back for his second chance. I can see how her parents would be apprehensive if she has been engaged twice before. If the previews are accurate he has a hard time with all the families but it might not be as bad as they are making it seem.

I’ve been thinking about this . I don’t think that’s why she ends up as F2. If her dad said what he said on HTD, IF he proves me wrong then I’ll f!&$#n kill him. Proving wrong means he’s going to give Arie a chance and if he messes up then action will be taken . I think Lauren can’t handle the fact that Becca is still there after Arie confesses love for her (Lauren ). That’s the problem stating ILY by the lead so early. How do you carry out the rest of the dates knowing you were told ily and not even at HTD yet. And if you believe his words, then how do you reconcile there’s still another girl there ? One might think it’s the endgame . Arie developed feelings and expressed it, not knowing he might still be trying to develop strengthen his feelings with another person. Maybe Lauren gets upset and pulls back and Arie views it as hot and cold treatment or a game she’s playing . Maybe she calls him out on it. The one thing I remember is Courtney said there are two things Arie can’t handle. Being called out and crying. I think his problem with Lauren happened during FD when she knows Arie spent the night with Becca, whether if it was to just talk or using his pillow lips for pillow talk.

This can be proven by the shirt the dad is wearing in that clip compared to the shirt he’s wearing when meeting Arie. Unless he has one favorite shirt when in tv giggling

This foreshadows when Arie returns to VA after imo
Can he convince them that his intentions are sincere, or is this the end of the road for this couple?

Btw, i also think he had that same issue with Becca after filming . She questioned things and it didn’t add up. He could have viewed it as calling him out again and Arie started looking for the escape hatch. Imo
