Love Island spills beans on sexy behind-the-scenes antics
LOVE Island is set to take the country by storm and now, in a no-holds-barred, exclusive interview, the breakout star of the UK version of the show has revealed the secrets of the house and the X-rated antics the Aussie contestants are expected to get up to.
Amber Davies says the Australian contestants, who will be looking for love in the same luxury villa where she competed in Majorca, Spain, will be keeping things just as spicy as the English show, with nightly bedtime fumbles being the norm.
Amber, 21, who won the UK series with Kem Centinay, 20, said: “It was just normal of an evening we would get it on!
“I really felt for this guy and sex within a relationship between two people, of course it happens if you like them, and you have fallen in love with them.”
However she said the contestants won’t be able to forget they are on TV despite the temptation to get between the sheets: “Of course in the back of my head I was thinking ‘bloody nora this is going to be going out on TV” but you are stuck in this villa isolated, and you just think ‘we want to do it’ so we just did it.”
Amber and Kem took home the $92,000 Australian prize money from the show.
But despite talk of weddings in four countries, their relationship fizzled out after just four months.
Amber blamed their busy work schedules for the split, but there were also rumours of arguments between the couple.
With only two of the couples still together from the UK series, she says it is another thing to watch out for if you meet ‘the one’ on the show: “You spend eight weeks with these people, and then you come out of the villa and you have to make the choice between making it work with these people, and the relationship, or working hard on your future. You have to make that choice.”
She added: “We don’t really see each other now we don’t really speak to each other. But it was his birthday the other day and I wished him a happy birthday. We are still friends.”
Amber says one of her biggest worries on the show was her family seeing her smoking: “That played on my mind more than having sex. Sex is a normal and natural thing whereas smoking is actually a life choice.
“I thought my mum and my nana (grandma) are going to be watching this and I just thought ‘oh crap!’ But I thought ‘they can’t tell me off!’”
The villa itself is completely remote, and the cast only got a chance to escape from being watched 24/7 on two days.
Then they were escorted to a secluded beach and were allowed to take their microphones off.
Amber revealed inside the villa there are automatic cameras, but also camera operators behind a wall who would film them.
Adding the contestants could see them moving, they soon forgot they were even there.
She said: “You aren’t always aware you are being filmed.
“The cameras are running 24/7 and obviously they are grabbing this conversation or that event that happens. You can’t overthink the cameras.”
Amber added: “I was surprised how quickly I made myself at home in the villa.
“When I first went in there I was thinking: I need to make sure my hair and make up is done all the time.
“Three weeks in my hair was an absolute mess and I had no makeup on!”
The girls did all their own hair and makeup — they often had three hours to get ready.
All the contestants worked hard to get in shape for their appearance on the show — Amber went on a strict eight week exercise and eating regime, something the Australian contestants will be following: “I was going to the gym twice a day. I was eating a really clean diet.
“I wasn’t drinking alcohol it was actually really good for me.
“I didn’t do ‘no sugar’, but I did ‘no carbs’.
“And I stayed away from dairy products like cheese — I only had milk in my porridge and cereal.”
Amber revealed the key to feeling good in the house and attracting the boys was being comfortable and happy about being in bikini: “I would say make sure you feel completely confident in what you are wearing.
“You need to just ooze confidence. You can’t be thinking: ‘I feel tubby in this’, or ‘I don’t feel good.’
“Being in a bikini wasn’t an issue for me — I was in a bikini for eight weeks and I felt great. And that’s how you have to be.”
Luckily for the contestants, they will have a top chef on hand to prepare their meals so they can keep up their health regime.
But if they are expecting to get drunk they will be out of luck — alcohol is strictly monitored: “They didn’t want any conversations driven by alcohol,” Amber revealed.
“They wanted it to be super pure and they didn’t want anyone to have ‘Dutch courage’ from a load of wine.
“We all had one or two glasses of wine a night, which was good, so there were no huge arguments fired by alcohol.
“It was all pure.”
Amber added that mentally it is impossible to prepare yourself for the show and the Australian stars will find it tough: “You don’t know what situations you are going to be in.
“I thought it was going to be this fun, crazy time with no worries.
“But it was mentally challenging and draining.
“I don’t think you can prepare yourself.”
The UK winner said the women on the Australian series will no doubt be worried about the other female contestants: “They can be b***hy,” she said.
“I was thinking it could get a little bit sore at times.
“But honest to God I have such a brilliant relationship with every female in that villa and that is what made it extra special.
“B***hing is always going to happen. It isn’t malicious it’s just gossiping.
“It’s what everyone does.”
On the Love Island Australia, host Sophie Monk is going to strike fear into the contestants hearts with every appearance she makes.
Amber said her UK counterpart, Caroline Flack terrified them: “She was kind of like this little god” she said.
“Everyone would crap their pants. It wasn’t like she was a mother figure. Everyone was terrified.
“We all knew she was a lovely person, but she has a job to do and we couldn’t have a relationship with her. We knew one of us would be going home when we saw her.”
Revealing what the contestants can expect when they get back to reality she said: “My life has gone from zero to 100.
“I never ever thought that Love Island could give me so many opportunities.
I feel like such a working woman now.
“Hopefully it will kick off for them as much as it did for us.
“If it does their lives are about to completely change.”
Amber added: “Be yourself and make sure you are in there for the right reasons and don’t be stupid — if you see someone is playing a game be true to yourself and follow your gut instincts.”
And she had a warning for the Australians taking part in Love Island: “I would say you keep your feet on the ground.
Appreciate where you came from where you started. Don’t think you are Kanye West.”

And I know this guy, he is a radio DJ here. I wouldn't say he is particularly funny, but I'll hold judgement.
If he does 'sassy' as well as Iain from the UK show it will be worth a watch!

I agree - the narration is an integral part of the show IMO. There will probably be some backlash about not having an Aussie voiceover artist but I can imagine who else they considered and I'd take this guy over Mike Goldman any day of the week.
