Am I completely off or does Becca sound a bit canadian? Is it usual for people from Minnesota to sound Canadian?

Yes. I. would say the Miinnnesota accent is unique and could be misconstrued as Canadian.

@yana_bach Same with those often in the other northern states. Have you ever seen the movie Fargo? Similar to that.

Yes, you betcha, our accent is unique and nothing like you hear in the movie Fargo - that is very exaggerated. We have been told we sound Canadian, but no we are totally American!

She absolutely sounds Canadian to me. I assumed it's a common Minnesota thing.

then my understanding of English (North American) is "Canadian"? To me that sounds "general" oppose to "Oxford British English" I grew up with ... so I guess everything "southern" has an accent for me

The Canadian accent can be pretty subtle. Its not all "aboot" instead of "about". (Yes I watch alot of HGTV). Some folks pronounce the long sound of vowels more often than in the USA. What I most notice about Becca is the cadence of her speech. It's a bit more clipped and that is definitely Canadian.

Yeah, my husband is from Michigan, everybody thinks he is Canadian, he even says "eh?"
