I actually think they did it to drum up interest in what is their worst-rated season (by a long shot) of all time. They're capitalising on Arie's stupidity. IMO.

JMHO they are doing it so people will watch and feel bad for the next Bachelorette Becca and want root for her. Nothing they are doing is for Aries benefit.

I agree with Hawaii Girl. It's to drum up interest for people to watch for ratings. IMO He doesn't care about the backlash Arie will get (so it isn't to soften the blow before it happens) nor does he care about people feeling bad for Becca or wanting to root for her. He doesn't care about any of the contestants. IMO It's about the ratings. I mean, I'm definitely interested in watching and in MF's eyes, to me he wants people to know about it because otherwise people may skip the epi because they think it's a normal FRC and ATFR show with a happy couple. JMO

This is a result of just a quick search.

The one-two punch of “The Bachelor” and “The Good Doctor” carried ABC to an easy win on Monday night, according to Nielsen overnight data.

Airing at 8 p.m., “The Bachelor” nabbed a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers, approximately even with its season premiere last week. “The Good Doctor” returned from hiatus with a 1.6 and 8.2 million viewers, down slightly in total viewers from its last original episode in December but still the most-watched show of the night.

No series added more in the key demo than The Bachelor.
The ABC series, which got off to a relatively limp start this season, climbed nearly 30 percent to a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. The show easily topped everything for the night, including neighbor and network darling The Good Doctor. The medical drama was steady with a 1.7 rating in the key demo, though it did win the night among viewers with an audience of 9.3 million. ABC took the night by both measures.

Ratings are counted in the target demographic 18-49 and those are the things that are looked at more than the total number of viewers. From what Millsy himself for Arie's season and the ratings themselves, is that this season has some of the lowest ratings in that target demo. 

Compared to Nick's season which was the only show on network television to increase their target demo from the year before (meaning increased from Ben's season), Arie's season ratings in that target demo are really bad. With Arie's season, the Olympics could explain for a bit of it but even then it seems like there's been a decline in ratings that's due to more than just that.

The biggest issue I see is explained below where there's been a decline in 26% in the target demo. That's a HUGE decline. I would expect that the penultimate and finale will have higher ratings in the target demo and I think that's why CH and others have been saying to watch the finale and the media is posting so much about the Switcheroo so as to get people to watch.

A year ago, when Nick Viall was The Bachelor, the show was an all-star for ABC. It was, in fact, the only show on network television that grew in the key 18-to-49 demographic when compared to its previous season, and was the fourth-highest-rated network show for the season in the demo.

But the ratings for this season of The Bachelor tell a different story. At this point last year (through eight episodes), the show was drawing an average audience of 7.2 million viewers with a 2.3 rating among 18- to 49 year-olds.

Now, in the same live-plus-same-day ratings — viewers who watch a show live, or almost live — it's averaging 6.2 million viewers, with a 1.7 in 18 to 49. If my math is right — AND IT IS, PEOPLE — that's a decrease of nearly 14% in viewers and a dizzying 26% in the demo. And that's not even counting this Sunday night's Women Tell All episode, which aired outside of the show's usual timeslot, drawing only 4.2 million viewers and a 1.1 among 18- to 49-year-olds.

Not sure about outside the US, but coverage of the Olympics clobbered everything on opposing networks. Viewers can certainly still hate Arie, but nothing on TV compared to the Olympics.

The source quoted above also mentions that The Bachelor Winter Games was clobbered in the ratings by the Olympics.

I don't think viewers weren't turning in because they hate Arie, in fact I think a lot of viewers hate watch (love to hate) this show so I don't see accounting for lack of viewership. Millsy himself has said before that the worst thing that can happen is disinterest from viewers. They'd rather the viewers be talking about the lead (loving or hating, or loving to hate) but disinterest is a killer for ratings.

ETA: I had posted the Olympics as a possible reason but think it may be more than that. I've noticed, especially in recent years, that leads with higher SM followings before their season airs overall have higher rated seasons in the target 18-40 demo. Arie has had one of the lowest SM following and lower ratings in the target demo so it could be a correlation and show of interest especially since so much of the Bachelor show is SM driven.

Well Arie made it five weeks into the first engagement, so maybe he can try to come back close to HTDs or FSD, if he messes up with Lauren. JMO.

I was rewatching the last episode and like some have said, I really do get the feels with Arie and Lauren as well! I feel like Lauren's I love you's to Arie are so sincere. She mentions she loves him for so many reasons and for unexplained reasons as well. Becca just seems to say I'm so blessed to be with him and she says it is so right with you... and to me its because she is not used to having someone be attentive to her. I just don't get a sincere I'm in love with you from her though. All IMO.

So, this is totally off topic, but I saw that MF's wife is originally from Wisconsin. Anyone know what town?
