@GuardianAngel, Since he is Jimmy Kimmel's cousin and is on the ABC payroll as a comedy writer for Jimmy's show (Source), he could be in the know IMO.

If Rashad is the Bachelor, it would also be the first time when MF's words were indeed true.

Of course not. But I think TPTB would be far less likely to pull a Caila or Luke on an actual star. So if that's what they've decided, I expect that's what we'll see.

I think Rashad wants to play football next season first and foremost IMO.  Maybe ABC has floated the idea to him in case an NFL contract doesn't happen for him.  JMO.

Normally I'd never want a celeb lead, but in this case no doubt IMO. To me he is so far and away above the typical standard for the Bachelors (JMO).  The amount of charm, charisma and star quality he has plus the kindness, maturity, respectfulness and emotional intelligence would be unprecedented and soooo welcome to me JMO.  Not to mention all that comes in the hottest package imaginable IMO.

I'll be hoping.

I am all for Rashad being the Bachelor. Out of the current pool of possibilities, hands down I'd prefer Rashad to the others

I didn't know he is JK's cousin. We never did hear the shocking announcement did we? Maybe it was around that time talks started happening. Maybe they have a back up in case he gets picked up by a team.

He's 32 yrs old. He was drafted in 2009. Released Feb 2017. During his career he was out on several injuries. I would think he is doubtful for a continued NFL'er IMHO.

It would make a lot more sense to me why TPTB didn't ensure another vanilla Bachelor pick in F4 if they knew Peter was one of the frontrunners along with Bryan (JMO). It was one of my major issues with the spoiler coz IMO TPTB are too invested in their next lead to play it by ear. Now, if Rashad was on their list and things were lining up well, I can see them going with the flow and keeping whoever doesn't win between Peter and Bryan as the backup (JMO).

I also agree that as much as I hope Rashad gets picked up by a team again coz he is passionate about it, it's going to be tough IMO. I actually see him going the sports broadcaster/analyst route sooner rather than later since he has the personality and the smarts for it IMO.
