I agree with Julychild, waiting two years is a long time. Yet, I also have to admit I have no idea, what-so-ever, how it works. Yet I have to believe anyone TPTB let on during Rachel's season would have to go through at least a bit of "extreme vetting". He stated he would never do it so turned them down. TPTB obviously still wanted him, so maybe it was up to him and he chose this one. If not, he wouldn't have waiting two years to agree. Of course I'm talking out of my behind.

I'm extreme guessing.

It's not like he waited two years to agree. I don't know if he did or did not apply for Andi's season.
If he was rejected the season he applied and received a blanket letter:"we inform you that you were not selected to be part of our cast this season-yada yada yada. We will keep your application and contact you if you become a candidate for the future." He could have had his application kept and then reviewed for other seasons and this season found applicable.
This has happened to other cast. Two that I can think of offhand.
Anyone on any season goes through an interview, marginal physical exam and psychological testing. I don't think it's extreme vetting by any means, but that is my opinion.

I sometimes think about how ridiculous it would be for anyone to go on this show to find love, since the casting process starts so early for some that they're basically signing up to stay single (or date in secret) for up to a year. It's more like postponing any chance at finding love.

Anyway, this guy does nothing for me. I hope he has a good personality.

Your reply makes sense. He did say "nominated" for the next installment. From the date of Feb 2015, it would be easy to figure out who was "next". He didn't say accepted in that 2 year old post. But he did say he would likely never do it. So between the nomination and this season, he received that offer and he changed his mind. I have to believe from what I've read he did his homework and knows all about the "next" he was getting into. Maybe it was the lawyer thing someone else mentioned. LOL

As for the vetting, I was being silly with the "extreme" part, but people have dating preferences and not to waste anyone's time the race factor would have to be addressed.

Typically with this show, I'd say a majority of the guys cast, probably didn't care who the lead was.  They went for the fun, adventure, travel, and fame if the last couple of groups cast are any indication.  
There are maybe 3-5 on any season that are actually cast that could be compatable and actually work with the lead as a couple.  The rest are filler and fluff. Always have been, always will be, IMO.

With Rachel's season, they may have done a little extra screening for race, but for the most part, IMO, TPTB have not changed how they function or how the show works, so it's like normal, IMO.  Just because she's a WOC, does not mean they will take extra care and caution with her or they guys cast for her.  

As I said in one of Nick's threads, recently... This is not a Disney fairytale, a Hallmark movie, or a Nicholas Sparks book or movie.  This is MF's disturbed world.

 Well, seeing how Dean acted like he'd never seen a Black woman in his natural born life, I have to agree. Then maybe he was cast to make all of America completely uncomfortable for the next three months, or for however long he lasts, then okay.

@vengeener your comment made me remember the way UNReal the show depicted the contestant who was wearing conservative flags and racist on an 'everlasting' (TB equivalent for the fictional show UNreal). I would not be surprised at all of someone did encourage Dean with his line about 'going black' imo

IMO, the only thing TPTB care about, is making what they consider "good" tv, and they'll do whatever is needed bring in the ratings and drama.  As long as it does that, doesn't matter to them whose thrown under the bus, whose reputations are destroyed, how the cast is edited or portrayed, as long as it suits their story board.  Nor, IMO, do they care if certain demographics in America are uncomfortable or unhappy.  Most of the time I don't they think really even care if the final couple actually lasts past the media rounds.  As long as they get what they need for the season and it's in the can, that's all that matters, they're already onto the next season, IMO.

You may be right. I wouldn't put it past some TV execs. But if they don't want a heck of a lot of civil rights organizations jumping down their throats they had better have thought about it, long and hard. If they really don't know what they're doing it might be better not to even try.

It won't be TPTB that anyone will jump down their throats, IMO it will be the contestant who they encourage or splice and dice to make it look like they've said something controversial that will have to deal with the backlash.
