A source close to TV3 has revealed a top-secret list that includes nine potential suitors in contention for The Bachelor NZ, season 3.

TV3 confirmed last Sunday that the local reality series would return for a third run in 2017.

"The search is officially on for our next Bachelor. He needs to be genuinely looking for love and naturally open to a fun adventure to find her," a spokesperson said at the time.

According to the newly revealed list, next year's potential suitors include a local DJ, a tennis coach, two male models, a fashion marketing manager and a Warriors rugby league star.

The list revealed that model Zac Keenan, DJ Karn Hall, AFL player Samuel McKenzie, fashionista Owen Ashton, league star Roger Tuivasa-Scheck, tennis coach Martin Colenbrander, model Randall Bouverie, dancer David Ihaia and boxer Carlos Urlberg, are all in the running to become the next reality TV heartthrob.

t is understood that the nine potential candidates are in contention to be shoulder-tapped for the role by TV3 casting agents.

In the lead-up to the second season of the show, a source suggested that tennis coach Colenbrander was in hot contention for the role, however when contacted, Colenbrander declined to comment on speculation.

According to a MediaWorks source, season two star Jordan Mauger "was not the first choice" among TV3 production.

When asked if Mauger had any words of advice for his successor, the former Bachelor certainly didn't pull any punches. "If I have nothing good to say, I shouldn't say anything at all," said Mauger. "But good luck to whomever he is."

Well-placed sources say Mediaworks have moved to sign up the 26 year old model and kickboxer to head the next round of the reality show, which starts shooting early next year.

While TV3 are still recruiting next year's bachelorettes, new host Dominic Bowden confirmed late last month that the production team were "very close" to landing their leading man.

Ulberg is signed up to the Red Eleven modelling agency, and works as a trainer at the City Boxing gym in Auckland. He was a finalist in the annual Cleo Bachelor of the Year competition last year, and in 2014, Ulberg was named runner-up in the Fresh TV series Mr Lavalava, hosted by comedians Pani and Pani.

He has fought professionally as a kickboxer, and had one professional boxing bout.

Ulberg has previously spoken about a troubled upbringing in Otara, being shuffled around foster homes, but choosing sport over the gang lifestyle adopted by many of his friends.

He hasn't responded to a request for comment. Ulberg's agency Red Eleven claimed they had "no idea" about his involvement in the Bachelor and TV3 refused to comment - just as they did last year when we revealed Jordan Mauger would be the second Bachelor, following Art Green.

Ulberg did feature on an early shortlist leaked by Mediaworks last month, a list which also included names like tennis coach Martin Colenbrander and model Randall Bouverie.

When Mauger was asked recently if he had any words of advice for his successor, he said: "If I have nothing good to say, I shouldn't say anything at all," he said in November. "But good luck to whomever he is."
