It can work positively and negatively. I think the outcome is dependent on the people involved and how hard they want to work for the betterment of the kids.

I'm with you. I have no doubt Josh would make it work when it comes to Amanda's children. Been there, done that, it can work very well. As long as the couple are on the same page and are in love, it will work. There will always be an Ex, (girl's father) but there will come a time when those girls will be old enough to go visit their father when they choose too. Been there done that too. My son did not like his father's new g/f/wife. I forced him to visit his father, he would call me one hour into the visit asking to be picked up. I didn't. I knew when he hit 13yrs old or so, I wouldn't be able to force him. The older he got, they made it work. He'd visit his father without her. They to this day, 25+ yrs later they have a great relationship. The children IMO are not the problem, it's the couple that needs to communicate and agree on many issues and handle everything openly and honestly with the children.

I think Josh would treat those girls like his own in a flash. If they get engaged on the show, I would think they would both be very sure of what they are doing, considering what they've both been through. There has been some success on BIP so it's possible. Maybe this was already discussed prior to accepting the deal by Josh. Maybe they told him which females were going to be on and matched them up. I know this has been done in the past from what I've been told.

Agree, Kasha. Also, I think it's actually easier to make it work, the younger the kids are for a stepfather or stepmother. Little ones like Amanda's grow up loving all 'sets' of parents and 'sets' of grandparents, that's all they ever knew. It can get tricky & harder with teens, sometimes, of course, not all the time. Laura Walsh wrote:Have mixed emotions about this.  I love that Josh is thinking outside the box and seems to have learned not to be so picky.  But on the other hand, this is really outside the box.  Amanda is a pretty girl and she is sweet and she will dote on Josh I'm sure, but will she give him the other things that he also needs like a challenge once in a while and so many other things that go along with a happy marriage.

Everyone is right in saying that no matter how much you love children and Josh does and will be a great father but they're not his kids.  And I can't picture the first time her ex, the children's father, has an argument with Amanda over their children and Josh interferes to perhaps stick up for Amanda, and the children's father says "Stay out of this, these are not your children" I just don't know how Josh will handle that.

And did I read on here that they have joint custody?  If so, then that's even worse because they both have to agree on a lot that concerns the raising of the children.  And this guy will always be in Amanda's life.  And whoa, if Josh ever tries to tell his children what to do or disciplines them in even the smallest of ways and daddy finds out.  Wow.  One child maybe but two under the age of 5.  Josh has said he wants children right a way so if they have a baby right away that will be 3 under age 5.  So if Josh is able to handle all this then I would say it could be a good fit. JMO

But take it from me who has one stepdaughter who is now in her 40's, she was only 3 when I came into the picture.  I will tell you for at least 15 years of our marriage the ex made our life unbearable at times.  And I will say very honestly that as much as I love my husband, been married 39 yrs. if you were to ask me today, would I do it all over again if the circumstances were the same I can't honestly say yes.  I would think long and hard on that.   Sorry bringing my personal self into this but just saying that most people would probably agree with me.  And there have been great marriages with these circumstances but they are the minority, I believe.

They are adorable children but even adorable children can try your patience at times.

And also Josh said that Andi was not the same on the show, can he be so sure that Amanda is what she appears to be on the show in RL?  All these things need to be explored and that takes time.

But I know that Josh listens to his mom's advice so I'm sure when she went to Mexico she told him about all the pitfalls and to really be around the little ones for more than a weekend here or there before he actually gets married.

I agree Laura, well said!

I am from a mixed family. My older brother is actually my half.
The family was dysfunctional at the very best.
It was not even tolerable until my brother reached age 18 and basically was out of the house.
I think it has very little to do with the child and almost everything to do with the parents.
Like I said, it can work and it can not work. My college roommate made it work. She married a man widowed with 2 young boys under the age of 4.
In my own family of origin, it did not work and many of us suffered for it.
Great post above @LauraWalsh! You nailed it.

It seems like we at least all agree that a happy relationship amongst all of them can work, but that it takes A LOT of work and won't be easy. In order for it to be successful, I think it takes maturity, patience, and thinking of the children above all else. To go on a 2 week vacation with someone, where said children are not even present, and then get engaged, is already not putting the children first (IMO). If it works out for them, great, but I think the more likely scenario is that he will end up with two failed engagements.

Just wanted to say, it's so good to see GA posting again. Missed you! bestbud!

So in the end, folks who had good experiences being remarried with kids from another's marriage, will think JAM can make it.

On the other hand folks who have experience with it not working out great or struggled will think JAM cannot make it.

That's just the way it is, everyone is entitled to their own opinion from their own life experiences. I'm sorry for those of you who had not so good experiences.

In my case, with my brother, it is wonderful!! beatingheart The funny part is all the 4 kids look so much a like and they all love each other so very much.

I would think it would be too early for many reasons, but the most logical is editing.

Bringing the blended family back to the confines of this show-- it has worked before with Molly and Jason Mesnick. Though they have admitted (on their podcast) it's not easy. Molly at 24 when she met Jason, was wise and mature beyond her years, that's for sure. They also took it relatively slowly compared to other Bachelor couples. They were still married like 15-18 months post filming the show (so that's still fast in my world), but no engagement on camera, long distance for a while, etc, etc. Perhaps if Josh and Amanda are for realz, they should contact the Mesnicks for a little advice.
