The Bachelorette - Season 12 - Potential Lead - *Sleuthing - Spoilers*

Personally, I do not like the term fan favorite. Exactly what quantitative criterion is used for this? I mean this in all seriousness.
If I do not like the fan favorite does that mean something is wrong with me? Of course not, well probably not. Ok...so we won't go there.
On the other hand if someone else does not like the fan favorite nothing is wrong with them either.
I think various factors go into the decision for the next lead. It's not who has the most likes, the most followers, the most bought fake friends or who has the most bach nation palsy walsies. That maybe a consideration. But not the whole shebang.
It's whoever has that special "it" the machine is looking for.

  agreed on Caila.  It seems pretty clear to me from social media, recaps and podcasts, Caila really didn't capture the interest of a wide section of viewers.  They may well pick her, but no way she's a or the general audience fan fave this season IMO.  And I realize everyone has personal likes and dislikes and indifference to different contestants. But by fan fave I mean someone who has been appealing to a large portion of the general audience and generated a lot of interest and talk amoung fans and who they really want to see more of. JMO

The numbers are overwhelming. Just search out the different sites and facebook bachelor/bachelorette areas, will be easy to find.

On twitter with Fleiss's question, the majority don't want Caila, made comments as to why. The majority did want Becca and Jojo came in second. Here's the numbers:

Becca: 94 yes and 2 no

Amanda: 19 yes and 1 no

Jojo: 53 yes and 3 no

Lauren: 4 yes

Caila: 9 yes and 48 no

Mollie B - Lauren's sister: 3 yes

Neither Becca or Amanda were afforded hot seat or special focus time at the WTN by TPTB. That could be more telling than any sm poll, etc.

I honestly think it was always between Jojo and Caila. Becca and Amanda got zero screen time during the show, which is very rare for a future lead.

I still think it's going to be Jojo, because of what CH said in that podcast (basically that they're not set on hiring someone diverse, but want someone who is a fan favorite/popular) and she just seems to be getting the 'ette edit to me. I would be really surprised if they went with the girl with the least followers and most criticism on SM...they've never done that before, unless you count Brad 2.0. And, he wasn't their first choice that year. IMO.

I always thought it was Caila, after we learned Becca left.

I'm with Kasha. They pick the fan favorite only if it's who they want and if they pick someone else, they'll say they're the fan favorite.

That's such a tiny number of comments compared to the number of viewers. I can't imagine it has any impact on their decision. Whether they pick Caila or Jojo, who seem to be the prime candidates, depends on what they're looking for and timing. To me the timing for Jojo isn't as good because they won't want anything leaked out early due to them wanting suspense about the ending of the show. That lets out filming at her home early. Then there's the pesky heartbreak that we're likely going to still see on ATFR. There's no such problem with Caila. If she's the lead they can start filming at her hometown pretty much anytime. They already know how she did on the WTA. I was surprised when Fleiss tweeted that they were picking a lead already. That made it seem like Jojo was out but guess we won't know for sure until either there's an announcement and/or sleuthing.

The Fan Favorite is a ridiculous term that TPTB coined to label the person they want as the next Lead.  I bet that Caila will be introduced as a/the "Fan Favorite" on next weeks showing of the WTA.  Caila has already gotten lots of press and she got along with all the other women on the show. Caila also is the only one of the final 4 that can pass as diverse.  I can't imagine how anyone in the general populace/casual viewer would ever be able to believe that JoJo would be ready to be the Bachelorette a few days after the epic blindside that is expected to happen on the finale.  Filming for the Ette starts very soon after this season wraps.

The SM numbers are not a realistic indicator of the Lead choice.  Whomever is chosen as Lead will gain viewers in droves after the announcement.  To each his own.  Caila has lots of supporters as well.  Maybe they are not the 200 or so who voted on MF's poll.  I doubt he really cares about that paltry vote count anyway.  He does this every season to humor the "fans."  ABC/TPTB will choose the person they want to storyboard regardless and then they will sell the story.

I was just talking about this today with a bunch of people who watch the show unspoiled...and don't twitter, Instagram, snapchat, and the rest. I asked them who they would want as the lead and all of them said they wanted Caila. I didn't give them any names or anything, just who would you want to see as the lead. I then gave them a few more options....Amanda, JoJo, Becca, Lauren, Jubilee and Olivia. Basically, Becca and Amanda were straight up no...too boring. They all think that Lauren will be the winner so they didn't even consider her. They said Jubilee would be interesting and wouldn't mind her. They weren't keen on Olivia...they just thought she was weird. Surprisingly, they were not too enthusiastic about JoJo either. I thought at least one or two would be fans, but no. Several said they thought she was fake and not over the ex boyfriend. The lone guy said he found her rather hard and not attractive. They basically said that Caila seemed fun and sweet and they would enjoy watching her. One lady said that Caila should get a shampoo commercial deal out of the show at the very least.

I think it's like anything else. Do SM followings and polls and Twitter trends represent every single viewer? Absolutely not. But just like presidential polls and preliminary date that are used to predict the November election results, they're the best we got to make a pretty good estimate of what the general tendencies and opinions are. It would be crazy of TPTB to dismiss that kind of data. IMO.

The problem with that analogy is that political polls are done using a cross sample of the population and are done in a scientific manner. When done well, they are very accurate. When web polls are done, the results have a much wider margin of error because they are not random samples of the population. Hard core fans or those who are not fans can often vote repeatedly and throw off the results. These polls are not considered professional and the results can totally be skewed.
