Local men seek love on 'Bachelorette'
Nick Peterson, left, and Bentley Williams are vying for the heart of Ashley Hebert.
By WALT BELCHER | The Tampa Tribune
Published: May 06, 2011
When ABC's "The Bachelorette" cranks up on May 23, there will be two bachelors with Tampa ties vying for the attention of Ashley Hebert.
Bentley Williams, 28, a Tampa native now living in Alpine, Utah, and Nick Peterson, 26, a personal trainer and ex-Yankee pitcher from Odessa, are among the 25 bachelors that were revealed by ABC this week.
Williams, an investment banker, is a divorced Mormon with a 2-year-old daughter. He apparently is involved in some dramatic twists during the early episodes of the reality dating (or is it mating?) show.
Reportedly, Hebert, who was just on "The Bachelor" season that featured Brad Womack, immediately is attracted to Williams.
But Peterson makes a first impression, too, by reading her a poem that he composed.
Peterson is a University of Tampa graduate who was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2006. He played on the team's Staten Island and Charleston, S.C., farm teams.
In his official "Bachelorette" biography, Peterson says his most embarrassing moment was "blowing my first professional game as a closer in front of thousands of opposing fans. They laughed and called me names. Ha-ha."
Peterson runs Body Shapers Private Studio on MacDill Avenue. He tells ABC that a typical night out for him is "a pair of tight jeans, cowboy boots, country music, good friends, and line dancin'!"
Hebert, 27, lives in Philadelphia where she is working on a degree in dentistry. She went from being one of Womack's favorites to missing that final rose.
This summer season, Hebert and her suitors will travel around the globe for dates in Hollywood, Las Vegas, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Fiji Islands. Also this season, comic Jeffrey Ross presides over the first-ever Bachelorette Roast, where 10 bachelors perform live in front of an audience taking shots at Hebert.

Alberta man will try to woo the next bachelorette
EDMONTON - A 27-year-old Gibbons construction company owner is about to become a TV star while looking for love on the new season of The Bachelorette.
Chris Malhomme, president of JVR Construction, is the only Canadian among 25 bachelors vying for the heart of Ashley Hebert on the seventh season of the romantic reality show that starts May 23 on ABC and will also be broadcast on Citytv.
Malhomme’s profile on the show’s website lists his three best attributes as “smart, funny and fearless” and his mom as the person he admires most.
“She had to raise two kids in a grain elevator with no money,” he says in his bio. “She made it and has done well.”
The most outrageous thing Malhomme has ever done? Booked a one-way ticket to Asia, seven days prior to departure, with no planning.
Five years from now, he expects to be “retired, living on a beach where the water is warm and crystal clear.”
Oh, yes, and he has two tattoos.
Malhomme hopes to snare 26-year-old dental student Ashley Hebert of Philadelphia.
It’s her second chance at finding love on a TV show. She narrowly missed her goal with Brad Womack, the most recent star of The Bachelor, when she “couldn’t admit that she was in love with him,” her bio says.
The show is still in production. Malhomme, his family and friends are not allowed to talk publicly about the experience until after he’s eliminated — if he is, says a publicist with Warner Horizon Television, which produces the show for ABC.
Edmontonian Paul Brosseau, a contestant on The Bachelorette in 2008, says the experience was definitely worth it and a lot of fun, even though he didn’t get the girl.
“If someone is looking for love, I don’t really think it’s possible to find it that way,” says the manager of operations for the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship, who is “very happily in a relationship.
“If someone is going on the show for the experience and whatever happens, happens, I definitely recommend it.”
Sixty per cent of the guys with him on the show were there because their agents told them it was a good career move, he says.
Brosseau, 26, was eliminated in the third week but made a lot of new friends of his fellow contestants.
“That was probably the best thing to come out of it, just the camaraderie among all the guys,” Brosseau says. “But the producers hated it, because we got along so good and we weren’t creating enough drama for them.”
Jenny Adams, an Edmonton contestant on The Bachelor in 2005, also remembers her time as a reality TV star as mostly positive.
“It was so cool to get to see how the reality TV world works and meeting cool people, not to mention I came home and started my own career in television, which is something that I always wanted to do. And it did help open doors.”
Adams, 29, currently offers design tips and tours beautiful Edmonton show homes as the host of Show Home Parade, which airs Sunday mornings on CTV. She is also the marketing director for Southgate Centre.
“I don’t regret it, absolutely not,” she says, crediting her time on the show for boosting her confidence and prompting more people to ask her out on dates after.
“It was probably the best single time of my life,” says Adams, who married three years ago and has an 18-month-old son.
On the downside, because only two per cent of the film shot for the show actually airs, “people have preconceived notions of what your personality is like based on that, which may not be what you are really like,” Adams says.
Being on the show with another Edmonton woman, Kim Choma, didn’t help by generating a lot of gossip locally.
Most wasn’t true, but because of the confidentiality clause the show makes all contestants sign, Adams says, “you have to sit there and just listen to people say awful things about you and you can’t speak up or say anything. You just have to absorb it.”
Adams thinks most people go on romance reality shows not to fall in love but for the experience.
“Would I recommend other people to do it? No, I wouldn’t. You have to be a very strong person is all I’m going to say. It’s not all fun and games like it looks on TV.”
Gibbons mayor Bill Nimmo, doesn’t like shows like The Bachelorette “because I believe it’s a whole bunch of staging.” But he’ll probably check out the first show out of curiosity, and because of Malhomme’s connection to the community of 3,000 about 12 kilometres north of Edmonton city limits.
“(Malhomme) will probably have fun, and I’m sure he’ll get quite a bit of attention from people who know him, and it might pique some curiosity about Gibbons because they’ll hear about it on TV. I don’t think it will hurt.”

ABC reveals additional details about Ashley Hebert's The Bachelorette'
Ashley Hebert's search for love will be a global journey.
ABC has announced Hebert will visit Thailand, Hong Kong, Taipei, and the Fiji Islands, in addition to Hollywood and Las Vegas in the U.S., for "intimate and adventurous dates" during The Bachelorette's seventh season, which will premiere Monday, May 23 at 9PM ET/PT.
Despite the various locations, The Bachelorette's seventh season will begin in a familiar setting with the 27-year-old former fifteenth-season The Bachelor bachelorette, who is finishing her degree in dentistry, greeting her 25 eligible suitors for the first time prior to the season's initial cocktail party.
Several of Hebert's bachelors will attempt to make memorable first impressions during their arrivals -- including a chef who snags a kiss, a Wall Street banker who offers her a pair of ballet tickets, a winery owner who pours her a special vintage glass of wine, a former professional basketball player who recites a poem he wrote for her, and a mysterious suitor who wears an opera mask upon his exit from the limo.
In addition, Hebert will also encounter one suitor who a former The Bachelor cast member has previously warned her could be on the show for the wrong reasons.
Once the cocktail party begins, the competition to impress Hebert only intensifies, as a "successful and upbeat" solar energy executive attempts to calm her insecurities, a "clever" man introduces her to his mother via speakerphone, and a bachelor displays a romantic message from a distance on giant cue cards.
In addition, another suitor serenades Hebert with a guitar, the masked man suggests she should "appreciate the person he is inside," and The Bachelorette star begins to question the accuracy of her earlier warning after being impressed with how genuine, handsome and charming her "wrong reasons" bachelor seems to be, according to ABC.
However, the mood becomes quite serious when host Chris Harrison arrives and reveals it's time for Hebert to present one of the men with a first impression rose -- causing one man to drink too much in attempt to alleviate his nerves, a situation in which Hebert takes "drastic measures." She'll then award the special rose to a "charming" bachelor who "took a risk" during the night.
The premiere will conclude with Hebert whittling her 25 bachelors down to 18.
According to ABC, some of the U.S-based dates Hebert and her bachelors will embark on include a solo date in which she a suitor fly to Las Vegas to plan a real Vegas wedding day and have a "romantic" dinner in the middle of the lake at the Bellagio Las Vegas, a group date in which 12 bachelors audition to appear onstage with Herbert during the Jabbawockeez dance show in Las Vegas and enjoy a private concert by Colbie Caillat afterward, a solo date featuring a flash mob performing a hip-hop routine and live concert by Far East Movement, and a group date that requires ten bachelors to perform in front of an audience during a Bachelorette roast.
Hebert's around-the-world dates will include renovating a local orphanage in Phuket, Thailand on a group date; shopping and sightseeing in an outdoor marketplace and ancient temple in Chiang Mai during a one-on-one date; watching her bachelors compete (poorly, in the case of one man who ends up in the emergency room) against each other in Muay Thai boxing during a group date; spending the day on a traditional junk boat for dinner in Kowloon, Hong Kong with one lucky bachelor; and exploring the Longshan Temple in Chiang Kai Shek Square, Taiwan during a group date.
The final three men will then have "exotic" overnight dates with Hebert in the "idyllic" Fiji Islands.
Following its premiere, two hour The Bachelorette seventh-season episodes will begin airing in their regular Mondays at 8PM ET/PT broadcast time slot on May 30.

Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert Will Wear Randi Rahm Gowns
Hebert, who was booted by Brad Womack on the "Bachelor," will don looks by the New York-based designer when she gives out roses on ABC's reality show.
When Bachelorette Ashley Hebert asks, "Will you accept this rose?" on the seventh edition of ABC's hit reality show, she'll be wearing evening gowns by New York-based couture designer Randi Rahm.
The dental student and natural brunette, 26, who made the final three on last season's The Bachelor show, in which Brad Womack proposed to Emily Maynard, slipped on Rahm's sparkly cocktail dresses and full-length formal gowns almost exclusively for rose ceremony tapings.
"Both Ashley and I love the sexy hugs and curves that Randi’s dresses provide," says costume designer Cary Fetman. "His looks capture the excitement, glamour and a bit of glitz that makes dressing both fashionable and fantasy."
First up? Hebert chose a dazzling Swarovski crystal-encrusted nude slip gown for the season's premiere where she met 25 eligible bachelors, including a 28-year-old winemaker from Sonoma and a 26-year-old personal trainer from Tampa. The episode will air May 23.
"Ashley is a beautiful young woman and looks simply stunning in the dresses. I wish her all the best for her romantic journey ahead," says Rahm, who also designs a couture bridal collection and has created red carpet looks for Beyoncé, Halle Berry and Eva Longoria.
If Hebert's search for love ends with a walk down the aisle, she could choose a wedding dress by Rahm for her dream day.

I do
(agree to be a contestant on ABC’s “The Bachelorette”)
“Surprise, I entered you to be on the The Bachelorette. It’s not a prank.”
That’s all Bailey Klemz could think to say to her brother, Blake Julian, a 27-year-old dentist who lives in Greenville. He had already heard the news from ABC’s casting department for the show, who let him know his sister sent in his name and photos.
From Steamboat Springs, Colo., Julian moved to South Carolina partly because of his enthusiasm for golf. He attended the University of Kansas for an undergraduate degree in human biology and furthered his education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.
Julian said he had previously only watched The Bachelorette once or twice. His sister, however, said she’s been a regular viewer for years. During countless episodes, she said she was reminded of Julian because of something one of the guys said or did and, for that reason, thought he’d be a perfect fit for the show. She mentioned it to him several times but he was uninterested.
“So one night when I was bored and the commercial came on advertising how to go online and enter a contestant, I stole a couple of photos from his Facebook page and sent them in, never thinking he’d really make it,” she said.
Since months had passed by the time Klemz got the call from an ABC producer, she said she had forgotten about entering Julian. And she never mentioned it to him because she figured thousands of guys submitted applications. She said, “I thought, ‘What are the chances?’”
Apparently really good for Julian as he’ll make his appearance during the season premier on ABC at 9 p.m. (usually at 8 p.m.) on May 23.
“I never planned on going on the show. I decided to participate because I thought it would be a once in a lifetime experience. I figured if I were lucky, I’d get to travel and if I were really lucky, I’d meet the woman of my dreams,” he said.
Their mom encouraged Julian to take advantage of the opportunity, Klemz said, but Julian went back and forth about his decision.
“I wasn’t sure if he’d do it or not. He’s kind of shy but then he’s got this amazing personality and he’s fun to be around. I’m really happy he decided to do it,” she said.
“The timing was right for me so everything worked out,” said Julian, “but it’s tough to say if I’d do it all again. In the future, taking time off probably won’t be an option.”
Family, friends and fans are left to speculate until August whether Julian is the one bachelor out of 25 who was chosen by Ashley Hebert, a dental student returning to television soon after landing in the top three runners-up on The Bachelor. Klemz said, “I’m telling everyone they have to watch The Bachelorette because my brother’s on it. I mean, he could be with her and we don’t even know it. We just have to wait and watch along with everyone else to find out what happened, where he got to travel and if he’s the one.”

Ex-Fresnan takes a shot at love on TV show
By Rick Bentley / The Fresno Bee
Solar installer expands into Fresno County
Fresno's love connection continues.
Buchanan High School graduate Ryan Park is one of 25 bachelors who will try to win the hand of Ashley Hebert when the next round of "The Bachelorette" starts at 9 p.m. May 23 on KFSN (Channel 30.1).
Before Park, there was Kasey Kahl, an advertising account executive from Clovis who was one of 25 suitors on the sixth edition of the reality show that aired last year. He was sent packing by Ali Fedotowsky.
There was also Will Dyck who in 2003 won the Fox reality competition show "Mr. Personality."
ABC won't allow Park, director of business development at REC Solar Inc. in Los Osos, to talk until either he wins Hebert's hand or gets bounced. Here's his bio from the network's website.
Age: 31
Occupation: Solar energy executive
What is the most outrageous thing you have ever done? Extreme skiing/boarding with avalanche beacons, airbag packs and a helicopter in the Andes of Chile.

Bits 'n' Pieces: Vancouver man to look for love on ‘Bachelorette’
Vancouver’s Jon Ellsworth in a not-yet-aired episode from the new season of “The Bachelorette,” which premieres at 9 p.m. May 23 on ABC.
Some Clark County viewers might recognize one of the 25 men vying for Ashley Hebert’s heart on the new season of “The Bachelorette.” Vancouver resident Jon Ellsworth, 26, is a contestant on the seventh season of the ABC reality dating TV show, which premiers at 9 p.m. May 23 on ABC.
An ABC publicist said Ellsworth was not available for interviews until he either wins or is eliminated from the show. Still, some information about Ellsworth can be found on the ABC website.
Ellsworth describes himself as an “e-commerce executive.” He says his three worst traits are that he’s “blunt, loud (and) opinionative.”
Ellsworth cites his Marine Corps service as his greatest achievement. His favorite actor, and also the person he’d most like to be for a day, is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he has two tattoos, according to the website.

‘The Bachelorette’ 2011: Finale Complete, a Neil Lane Ring for Ashley Hebert?
Based on tweets from “Bachelor” producer, Mike Fleiss, has posted the past few days, “The Bachelorette” 2011 finale is complete and he was on a plane with Neil Lane, the jeweler for the show’s engagement rings. I’ve never met the producer or anything, but he seems to be in a great mood and can’t wait for fans to watch Ashley Hebert on season 7 of “The Bachelorette.” So, does this mean Ashley has an engagement ring coming from her future husband on the show? Neil Lane told Mike that he sold Paul McCartney an engagement ring and said he “treated Paul like he was The Bachelor.”
I just love the fact that Mike Fleiss is now on Twitter. It’s fun to “decode” the messages he tweets. I think it’s hilarious that he has over 2,600 followers and he only follows ONE — and that’s the host of the series, Chris Harrison. Maybe he’ll expand his Twitter circle at some point.
I’ve been searching for spoilers everyday on the season, but nothing so far. On “Entertainment Tonight” Wednesday, there was a small promo for “The Bachelorette” that I haven’t been able to nail down online. The footage was for the premiere episode when Tim got drunk at the cocktail party and crashed. Ashley said that there was “no way in hell Tim was getting a rose.” That was about it, plus the scene of Tim snoring on the lounge furniture by the swimming pool. It really was kind of pathetic.
Weekends aren’t much fun for anything on “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette.” I wanted to go in and flip through the latest issue of Star magazine to see what’s up on the West Lee scandal, but didn’t manage to get to the store. Apparently the contestant’s former mother-in-law and father-in-law spoke with the tabloid about the death of his wife, Sarah Lee. The incident happened on September 9, 2007 when she drowned in a bathtub after having another argument with him — sounds like there many of them. In the police reports, the tragedy was ruled accidental, but there’s a looming suspicion as to what really happened according to Sarah’s parents. The whole thing is a mystery, but it boils down to Ashley being warned to stay away from him on “The Bachelorette.” Wonder if the network knew about this — they had to since they do background checks. Each season finds a way to either match or exceed the drama from the last one.
Here’s to hoping Ashley Hebert finds love for real on “The Bachelorette” 2011 and has a Neil Lane diamond slipped on her finger!

'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert: Best guys 'they've ever had'
"The Bachelorette" premiere is just around the corner with an all new season of fun, boys and bubbly Ashley Hebert from Brad Womack's "Bachelor" season. She tells the press in her first post-production interview that it was certainly hard being on the other side of things.
On how surprisingly hard it was:
"Going into it I knew that I'd have a whole other set of hard times, but I didn't expect it to be as difficult as it was ... I was so much more nervous for this one. There's a lot more pressure ... But I definitely learned a lot about myself. I guess I prefer to be on this side, but it was not easy at times, that's for sure ... I'd have to say once is probably enough. I really, really have a whole new respect for Brad for going through it twice."
On her goal for her season as Bachelorette:
"To make sure that I left without any regrets. I know that's cliche, but that's what I really went into it thinking. ... It was not easy, I'll tell you that. But I went into it saying I don't want to leave with any regrets. If I do fall in love, I'm just gonna put it all out there ... I learned a lot from Brad's season and I have no regrets."
On her selection of fellas:
"I will tell you this - I don't want to give too much away - but I will tell you that they did a really good job of selecting all different types of guys. Different personalities, interesting careers. Interesting personalities. Tune in and ... you will ... [laughs] you're gonna die."
"I didn't know what t expect, but after the guys walked out of the limo, I was blown away. At that point, I didn't know them that well, but physically they were gorgeous to me. And after getting to know them - I had some great guys. Personally, I think the best set they've ever had."
On what she was looking for:
"I wanted just a good man. Someone who was loyal and a family man. As time went on there were more things I saw in the guys I wanted. Someone who made me feel good, made me feel like a woman, made me feel more vulnerable. As time went on, I figured out more what I wanted.
On why Brad wasn't the man for her:
"We both needed different things in our life and, especially after meeting all of these men, I realized how Brad wasn't the best fit for me and I wasn't the best fit for Brad. I definitely realized Brad was probably not the right guy for me ... he was older and very settled in and I was looking for somebody to create a life with, a new life together. I felt like Brad was looking for somebody to fit into his life and not to say that's a bad thing, it just wasn't what I was looking for."
So is she happy? Did she find love?
"All those questions are things you'll have to tune in to find out. But I'll say I'm happy with the way things turned out for me. You'll have to tune in and see everything, the roller coaster."
"The Bachelorette" premieres Monday, May 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with a two-hour premiere, and will move to the regular 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot the following week.

New 'Bachelorette' Season Has 'Best Guys They've Ever Had'
ABC
By ANTOINETTE BUENO
May 18, 2011
It seems all but certain that new 'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert will be luckier in love this time around. In a press conference with the new season seven 'Bachelorette', she openly marvels at the quality of the 25 guys ABC assembled for her choosing, even claiming that her season features "the best guys [the ABC show] has ever had."
The 26-year-old dentistry student is the newest "Bachelorette" after being passed up by last season's 'Bachelor' Brad Womack, and this time she gets to be the one who makes the decision on who stays and who goes home. But she quickly realized that this aspect of the show wasn't as fun as it might seem.
"I didn't expect it to be so difficult," Ashley says about the role reversal. "I really found that I don't like breaking up with someone. I have a physical reaction to breaking up with someone," the sensitive brunette reveals.
She also took the opportunity to reflect on Brad's decision last season to break things off with her before the final rose ceremony.
"I think Brad's a great guy, but we needed different things in our lives," she says, looking back. "He was older and more established, and I was looking more for someone I can create a life with – a new life together. He was looking more for someone that would already fit in his life, not that that's a bad thing. But now I see that there are people more suited for me, just like there's other women more suited for Brad. Brad is not the right guy for me," she reflects.
This time around, she definitely discovered more of what she's looking for in the right guy.
"Coming into it, I just wanted a good man who's loyal, a family man," she says. "But through this experience, I realized more things that I wanted. I want someone who makes me feel."
And did she find that special guy?
Judging from Ashley's comments on the men of this season, it would be hard for her not to. "They [ABC] really know how to get a variety of men, different personalities, different jobs...," she laughs. "I didn't know what to expect, but when they got out of the limo, I was blown away. Physically, they were gorgeous!," she gushes. "Tune in and you're going to die!"
Though she of course couldn't reveal too much about the upcoming season and the "gorgeous" men she gets to date, she does reveal that she's happy with its outcome.
"I'm happy with the way things turned out for me," she says sincerely. "Through the experience you learn so much about yourself, and what you want. You're going to have to tune in for the roller coaster ride!"
