Ok. So I have been tossing up if I should post this. I hate talking about personal stuff these days. Guess the show will change all that huh. One thing I've always been proud of, is my father. So here is a story that was written about he and I. I love you Dad. I wish you were here every single day. If I could watch the show with anyone tomorrow it would have been you. Hope you're proud of me where ever you are. — feeling loved.

PS: I said in my recap that the dinner conversation seemed to set your relationship at another level.
Heather: It did. And I’m grateful that the editors and the producers decided to just keep in that part of the conversation because I actually lost a tomato at one point from my plate, I believe we talked about the frog in his pond at one point . . . I was like, "Thank you." [Laughs]

PS: Did you expect the kiss?
Heather: No, I didn’t. And it was such a beautiful moment. I’m very big on the first kiss, that’s huge for me. I’ll be really honest, there was a part of me that didn’t want to kiss him unless I was the last girl there but I knew I needed to take a risk and really put myself on the line because of what he said. I was like, I can do that . . . He’s clearly interested, I was like, "I’m going to do it." So, so glad that I did.

PS: He opened up to you more than anyone else so I guess you were reciprocating that a little bit.
Heather: I can’t even tell you the kind of relationship that him and I have . . . During the show. It’s just phenomenal. A lot of the girls would get asked, "Who’s your friend in the house, who’s your friend in the house?" and the truth is, mine was Sam. Whenever I got to see him, it wasn’t just the guy that I was romantically interested in — I got to see my best mate and it was really cool.

Heather is cooking Sam dinner — see, she can do the romance thing — and they start talking about their upbringings. Heather says she's been cooking for herself since she was 5, which makes us stop and see her as a real person with real feelings for the first time. Sam's suitably concerned about her statement and opens up himself, telling her about losing his mum at 15. "We were watching the cricket late one night," he tells her. "We got a call from the hospital saying she's taken a turn and by the time we got there she'd already died." This is actually the most heartfelt, genuine moment I can remember from all three seasons of The Bachelor. It's truly heartbreaking. This deep conversation sets their relationship at another pace and suddenly it seems like Heather's back in the lead. They move things outside to eat, where Sam quickly steers the conversation down the "Are we just friends" path. Heather looks destroyed. "I feel silly," she says. She furthers that she has romantic feelings for him and thought he felt the same. He quickly says, "I do! I just wanted to make sure you did," and then all is right again.

And this.
The longest, most intimate kiss yet happens, and you actually feel a little bit awkward watching it, like it's too personal. You'll notice Heather also snagged herself a rose. Girl is in it for the long haul.

Beautiful brunette filmmaker and actress Heather Maltman is currently stealing Sam Wood's heart on the new season of The Bachelor. While he has an undeniable chemistry with Heather's fellow bachelorette Snezana, there's something about Heather that Sam can't seem to — and doesn't want to — shake. She's bright and witty but cool as a cucumber. She calls him "dude" and "mate" and she wrestles in jelly with him. They're getting along like best mates, but they also just shared the most intimate kiss after a long, romantic dinner. There are sparks between these two, and we get to watch the start of the fire that's undoubtedly about to burn — and we've never been more curious to see what happens.

After her hugely successful date with Sam on Thursday night, we wanted to chat to Heather about all things Sam-related. As we suspected, we found her to be charming, funny, self-deprecating and totally real. There's no BS with this girl, and that's what we like about her. Read on for the date night in her own words, her relationship with Emily and what she thought of Sam's controversial kiss with Snez.

POPSUGAR Australia: Obviously everything is going really well so far for you — how has the experience been?
Heather:
It has been an incredibly wild ride, every twist and turn. I just feel like I don’t know what’s going to happen next, and not just in terms of watching the TV show. Just in terms of everyday life! It’s crazy.

PS: Is everyone reacting positively to you?
Heather:
Yeah, I feel really lucky. I am such an oddball sometimes and I can say some of the weirdest things . . . I feel really humbled by the fact that people are really supportive. Not everyone’s going to love you and that’s cool. But the fact that I’ve had such amazing things said, I’m just like, "Damn! That’s awesome. There are other oddballs out there!"

PS: You’ve got a really easy-going personality, which is very refreshing on a show that’s quite formal.
Heather:
I was the same, I had a very stereotypical view of The Bachelor when I first heard about it. Like it’s all makeup and glam and shitloads of candles but in actual fact it’s very real. It’s actually a very real process with real emotions. I think what it is, what makes it so surreal, is that it’s a heightened circumstance so emotions are naturally going to be heightened. The process is so quick and so full on that full-on emotions end up coming out of it. It was really nice that I could be myself — I was appreciative of that.

PS: And the fact that you guys are locked away in the house for a few months without outside contact just makes everything so extreme.
Heather:
Oh my god, yes. Because normally when you’re having a problem with your boyfriend you can call your friend and go, "Oh my God I can’t believe he kissed someone else," but you can’t do that in the house. You’ve just got other girls that he might kiss and you’re like, "Ooh, this is uncomfortable."

PS: You’ve got no voice of reason to talk you through! It sounds kind of stressful.
Heather:
Yeah, sometimes, but at the same time we’re all in it together so I think we kind of had each other’s backs and tried to support each other as much as we could.

PS: How was it living with the girls? Were there any major issues?
Heather: Well it’s pretty obvious from watching it there were teething problems at the beginning but I’ve always been of the opinion . . . I don’t like to judge people or say nasty things. I just kind of took a backseat and thought, "You know what? Eventually they’ll come around and it will be OK." And that’s exactly what happened. It was hard. Obviously I reacted because Sam and I had a connection from day one so obviously my experience is going to be very different from day one. But eventually the girls did come around and to this day I have beautiful friendships with all of them. I just think they’re such fantastic people and I’m really, really glad I got to know them.

PS: They’re playing up the Emily thing a lot. Every time your name is mentioned they cut to Emily rolling her eyes.
Heather:
I know.

PS: Are you guys mates now though?
Heather:
Yeah! Yeah, we are. One of the things that really impressed me about Emily was that we were exercising one day in the house and she sat me down and just goes, "I’m so sorry, I was wrong. I’m really sorry. I judged you at first glance but I get you now." But you know what, that’s not entirely her fault. I had no idea how guarded I was about how I feel and who I am, until I did this show. I thought I was like, "Here it is, here’s what I’m about," but I realised that I’m OK with the funny stuff or the fun stuff, but the minute someone wants to know how I feel about something, that’s what I find a little bit tough.

PS: That’s hard for anyone though, especially in a new setting where there are cameras on you and you’re competing with other girls.
Heather:
Yeah, I think I said on one of the radio shows that you’d be having this beautiful private moment with someone and all of a sudden you’d hear, "[makes static noise] Girl crying in the corner, let’s get cameras on" and suddenly there’d be all these cameras there and you’re like, "Ah! Oh that’s right, you’re meant to be there." [Laughs]

PS: About Sam.
Heather:
Mmhmmm . . .

PS: What were your initial thoughts on him and did you like him straight away?
Heather:
I was so incredibly nervous the moment that I met him. I think I got lucky that the things that came out of my mouth ended up charming him. I thought maybe he’d be like, "Oh, what happened there?" [Laughs] I was nervous because I was like, "You’re very handsome." And you know when you just meet a guy and there’s something there? Like, instantly there’s something there. That’s when my nerves kicked in. I was like, "Wow. I’ve got a feeling you’re going to get what I’m about," and from there I just started being myself. So from the word go the show was quite full on for me, I guess.

PS: Did you expect to get the white rose? Did it pressure on you or did you like having it?
Heather:
Definitely surprised by it. I thought it would go to Sarah for sure. I got to know Sarah very, very well in the house and she is just, she’s an incredible human being. Really funny, really sweet, down-to-earth, ridiculously pretty . . . she’s incredible. As for wanting the rose or not wanting the rose, I believe in one of my interviews on the show, which they didn’t show, I put my hand up and said, "Hi, my name’s Heather and I want the white rose," so yeah [laughs] I did want it and I was very, very proud when I got it because I didn’t think I would. I had no idea and it was so reassuring when he gave it to me. As for pressure on creating a date, surprisingly I didn’t feel any pressure and I think that’s purely because he and I got along so well that I was like, it’s not going to matter what I create, as long as we’re having a good time. So I just went with that and the fact that he was into superheroes, I was just like, "Well, there you go."

PS: He had the best time, you nailed it.
Heather: [Laughs] Thanks, man.

PS: Which is your favourite Sam? Superhero Sam, suited-up Sam, dinner-at-home Sam . . .
Heather: Oooh. Good question! Ohhh, man, you’re busting out the good ones! Um, oh, you know . . . Kissing Sam.

PS: I can’t believe that wasn’t on my list!
Heather: Yep, I’m gonna have my own category there. Kissing Sam, romantic Sam. Yep, there you go.

PS: I felt like a perve watching that kiss, it was so intense! It was a good kiss.
Heather: Yeah, when I was kissing him I was like, "Wow, this is incredible." You know you have that moment where your little internal girly brain is flicking and you’re going, "We’re kissiiiiing oh my Goddd," and I think because that had switched on, I didn’t realise how romantic that moment was. And then I went in for the cheek grab. Nothing like a good cheek grab.

PS: I like I needed to give you guys a moment. But it also felt like it could’ve been in a movie, it was that perfect.
Heather: [Laughs] Yeah, it was nice to know we could have a moment that was really sweet and quite romantic because we do have so many goofy moments together.

PS: The friend thing threw me — when Sam wondered if you guys were falling into the friend zone.
Heather: Oh, the friend thing. No, that didn’t really throw me. I mean, it hurt. It was like, "Ooh, OK. You just got me in the crash button," but, look, I was actually really proud of the fact that he brought it up and nailed it. Like, "This is what I’m afraid of." I was like, cool. That’s a ball I can hit. If you tell me what’s going on, I can do something about it. And that’s exactly what, in saying that, took us to the next level rather than the other way. He gave me the opportunity to either be really honest about the way that I felt or freak out and run in the opposite direction.

Whenever I got to see him, it wasn’t just the guy that I was romantically interested in — I got to see my best mate and it was really cool.

PS: The whole thing about him kissing Snez on the lips in front of everyone. Did it bother you?
Heather: No, no. What bothered me I guess was . . . I felt really [bothered] about what Jasmin decided to do. Seeing it now, I don’t think she meant anything by it, I think she was just being silly. But at the time it just felt a bit like, not cool man. No need for that, but oh well.

PS: To us it just seemed like a pretty innocent little peck.
Heather: Yeah, it was nothing! Literally an, "Oh, see you later." But that’s not how Jasmin portrayed it when she came in the room so it made it really uncomfortable.

'I was bullied my whole life': The Bachelor favourite Heather Maltman admits difficult childhood prepared her for 'behind-the-scenes' friction

Competing for the affections of Sam Wood was never going to be easy, but as the girls inevitably clash on The Bachelor contestant Heather Maltman reveals why she remains untroubled by the ongoing conflict.

Heather, the source of reported behind-the-scenes friction with her fellow contestants, insists a difficult childhood in rural Australia toughened her up and gave her the resilience needed to cope with the show’s escalating drama.

She told New Weekly: ‘I grew up in a little town in Queensland and I was bullied heavily because I didn’t have any money.

‘I had to start taking care of myself from a really, really young age, and I think most kids look at kids like me, and go “She’s weird,” or, “she doesn’t have this or that.”’

She added: ‘I was bullied in primary and high school. I was bullied my whole life.’

Heather's comments come amid reports of backstage bullying from her fellow contestants, but the 29-year-old admits she's 'not surprised' by the repeated backstage.

'That's going to happen, insecurities are going to come out, so I'm not taking it as an attack on me,' she said.

http://nwonline.com.au/exclusive-heather-almost-quit-the-bachelor-on-the-first-night/

She’s one of the early frontrunners to win Bachie Sam’s heart, but if bachelorette Heather hadn’t liked what she saw on night one, it could have been a whole different story!

Talking exclusively to NW, Heather says she was planning on walking straight out of the mansion at the first cocktail party if she thought she wouldn’t get along with the Bachelor.

“I made it very clear from the get go that if I didn’t think the guy was for me, I wasn’t going to stay, even for the first cocktail party,” the 29-year-old brunette tells us. “There’s no point. I want to meet a guy I want to be with and I’m also not going to stand in the way of him finding someone.”

But it’s obvious from the moment they first lay eyes on each other that Heather and Sam have quite the connection. So much so that even before the first cocktail party was over, Sam had handed Heather the coveted white rose.

“I think I was surprised with what a genuinely normal, down to earth guy he was,” says Heather. “We clicked and I was like, I’m sticking around!”

We’re sure glad you did, Heather!
