That is exactly what I think as well Albean. I think that she knew in that moment it was Shawn and felt horrible that she realized at F2 and not sooner.

Does anyone recall what she was wearing when she said, "I know what I have to do." I believe she was on the balcony in Utah.

IMO you have to look at the whole picture. She's holding Shawn's face in both of her hands - when you touch someone you really care about you tend to do it with full palms - as she is doing in this picture. That - to me - is more significant than the pillow. Slightly later in the scene she holds on very tightly to Shawn's face with her finger tips which suggests not only an intimacy but also an intensity. Overall how she uses her hands in this scene is very intimate - and intense.

But to play devil's advocate, their body positioning is very awkward. Her legs are laying across his and the pillow is just in the way. She is grasping to his face and holding tightly, but it is still an awkward hold. And a moment later Shawn grabs the back of her head in a weird way as well. It just does not scream natural to me. It feels forced. She has such a blank stare when he is telling her that he loves her... like she is searching for what she is going to say to him in response. Almost like Kaitlyn is saying in her head, "How do I respond to his love declaration...what do I say? What should I do?...Quick...distract him...kiss him!"

Just for comparison, someone should bring the SC of Kaitlyn and Nick to see if that looks as awkward. I'd be interested to know. Anybody?

I actually watched it thinking she was way more into Shawn the first time and then, after the Jason interview, I watched without sound and I feel like she was more glowing and at peace with Nick. I still think it's going to be Shawn, but I think she was conflicted.

And this right here is the reason that they may have switched the order of the dates when shown during the episode.  We automatically assume that the best date is going to come second...it is natural to assume when story telling that the best is yet to come.  They placed Shawn's family date second for this reason, whether or not it really was the best date, they wanted the viewers to believe that it was the better date.  The music, scenes chosen and editing all reflect they intended to make Nick's family meeting more serious and awkward and Shawn's more relaxed and happy.   (When in fact Nick's date involved fun that was not shown as his brother so nicely pointed out on Twitter that they played flip cup.)  But, it was telling to me when I watched them in the reverse order without the music.

I just rewatched it and Kait also talks about letting someone go and she doesn't know what to do or how to do it, making it sound like she's already done deciding. So we really don't know what she was talking about because she says a few things. So I still maintain it was just general crying, not anything to do specifically with either guy.

She looks like she's been crying when she walks into her own suite. I wondered if she had to go film those crying ITM's directly after leaving Shawn's room & then only went back to her suite.

Yes a very emotional time I am sure. She did not want to hurt Nick AND his family but knew she would.

Well she does have to let someone go, no matter what. I think it's general crying too about the situation, just not sure why it's assumed she had already made up her mind. I see no indication of that. She looked over the moon after her day with Nick, talked about feeling in love with him and had stubble burn from all the making out. Then Shawn day happens and she's distraught immediately afterwards instead of on a high. I also think she looked really awkward when he told her ILY. Aside from the head clawing her body language reminded me of Andi with Nick on their LCD. That's how Jason Carbone seemed to view it as well, so I'm not alone in that.

I believe she was conflicted because Nick had cried to her and told her face to face that he was "scared to death" of a repeat of last year and Kaitlyn's response was "stop it!" like Nick was crazy for thinking that way. And then when he said he loved her she curled in closer to him and said, "Promise?" like she was needing more reassurance from him because she wanted that and Shawn was already on his first day telling her this so even with sexgate aside, Nick was a bit slower than Shawn to reveal his feelings.

If Kaitlyn didn't want Nick she could have spared him when he said he was cared to death. If she knew he wasn't the one that is just callous as she easily could have sent him home then, enough other guys to drag and certainly Jared would have been a devastated F2 to put in that slot instead. So for her sake, I think she was confused and the dislike between the two guys and then meeting the families and her own family's input may have played a role in her "in the moment" decision to go with Shawn -- one which is hindsight she could look back on and connect the dots that he was her F1 choice all along once out the bubble. jmo
