I agree it's dishonest, but you just have to look at the track record of the engagements in the history of the show to see that people don't take them seriously. Whereas, if any of them have gotten engaged after the show, they were real and they did end up marrying the person within a reasonable time period.

It's hard for me to get angry at the lead/F1 for doing it because I know how much TPTB literally threaten the lead to propose. Jason said he called Melissa's parents and said "I love your daughter, but I'm just not ready to propose" and the producers called them back and told them that Jason was just confused. They then told Jason that if he didn't propose they would give him the worst edit possible and make things very difficult for him. I don't blame the lead for thinking "it's not worth it to not propose and get a JP-like edit and all future opportunities take away; I'll just propose, hopefully things will work out and we'll get a free ring out of it!".

If viewers were honest, they prefer the fairy-tale engagement at the end as opposed to a JP "let's just date" or a Brad "don't see myself marrying either of you" ending. We all know that it's probably not going to work out between the final couple, but we still like that proposal. The producers know what they are doing.

See CP, I must be the odd viewer, I don't prefer the engagement. I really loved when Charlie told Sarah he loved her but he wasn't ready to propose.  To me asking someone to marry you should mean something. I would find a heartfelt I love you and want to be with you enough.  I hate that as soon as they leave the show the engagement means that all they get asked it when are you getting married.  Heck, let the poor people go out to dinner and actually know each other.

The engagement is a stupid thing for me and I supported **edited*. I felt his no ILY was a little stubborn, **edited**I can understand a lead not wanting to mess with TPTB, because they will mess back, but I don't like it. I do agree that we as viewers need to take responsibility that after Brad's shocking I chose me ending we supported TPTB in basically forcing these people to get engaged whether they wanted to or not.

I'd like to listen to that Dan Patrick interview, but the link takes me to a list of about four different hours of stuff and I don't know when chris was on. Could someone please help me out? TIA.

It's the 5th one down (atm) titled "Dan Patrick Show Hour 2 (06-16-15)". He comes on after 15 mins or so.

Oh, I totally agree with you! I definitely think that we're in the minority though, which is shown by how much people hated Brad, JP, and **edited**I think that's why the producers feel like they need to get an engagement every time, even though none of the couples are really ready for it at the time. **edited** Other than that, the proposals that I remember,**edited**just seemed generic and completely lacking in that forever/passionate/can't live without you type of love. To me, a emotionless engagment is so much worse than a heartfelt ILY.

source: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/the-bachelor/bachelor-star-chris-soules-tal-56765.aspx
During his interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Soules said that his engagement on The Bachelor was "technically" real but admitted that being together in real life is more complicated.

"Well, we got engaged on the show. I mean technically yeah [on whether the engagement was real]. She had the ring, the whole nine yards. We tried to make it work. We tried to figure things out in the real world. It's much different in the real world than it is on TV, you know, on a television show. You kind of get the opportunity to, you know, actually experience real life together," Soules said.

"They don't pressure you to do it [get engaged]. I think the whole experience itself lends itself to like making you feel like you want to do that. And in the end of course there's the final rose and, you know, it's a really weird experience and it's hard to explain unless you've been through it," he added.

While Soules didn't get into the details of the breakup, he did have nice things to say about his ex fiancee.

"Well there really is not much to say. I mean it was a relationship. She's a great person and she'll be a friend for the rest of my life and I'll always care about her," he said of Bischoff. "Just didn't work out. It was two people that were mature and went into a weird situation, came out, tried to make it work."

Aside from his love life, Soules also talked about Nick Viall, yet another controversial topic among Bachelorette fans these days. Viall competed with Soules for Andi Dorfman on The Bachelorette season 10 and then made his reality TV comeback on The Bachelorette season 11 to compete for Kaitlyn Bristowe.

"Nick is an interesting guy," Soules said. "And he really seems to enjoy being, and wanting to continue to be, on The Bachelor franchise and, I mean, I don't know. I don't understand...If I was those guys, I would be very irritated to know that he's back on the show...that's a tough pill to swallow by the other contestants."

After his stint on The Bachelor, Soules competed on Dancing with the Stars season 20 and recently joined the cast of Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition on Food Network. While he seems to enjoy his time in the limelight, the 33-year-old reality TV star is not keen on finding love again as the next Bachelor.

"No. I'm glad I did it. It was a great experience but, you know, that chapter has past in my life and, you know, it's a lot of pressure. It's very intense. If you're truly there to find someone, which I was, it's a lot of emotional ups and downs. And it's hard," Soules revealed.

And despite his upcoming reality TV gig, Soules still claims that farming in Iowa will always be his first love.

"I really enjoy what I do [in Iowa.] I am trying to make the most out of the opportunities that now I'm having. It's fun to come to New York, but I'm always glad when I get back there and get back to normal life. That's just me being honest. I don't live in Iowa because I want to live in Iowa, I live in Iowa because I love what I do there," he said.

I don't believe half of what he said. Does he not realize it is time for him to GO AWAY?

Jerkness is shining through in that article. He really doesn't know how to articulate himself, and just digs himself deeper into loser category every time he opens his mouth.

Technically they were engaged? Really not much to say about the relationship? What an idiot.

This is sounding like a farce engagement if there ever was one -- and Whitney likely discovered that by AFTR but being the classy lady she played along...

I think watching the interview on buddy TV is better/more interesting than reading it. When they took a break they talked about unReal.
I wish McLovin had asked him if he thought the time he spent on DWTS was one of the reasons it did not work-out with Whitney.

He IS the face of pork. 🐷
