Re: General Chit Chat
I've just learned my dear uncle passed at 2am this morning.
Let me tell you a little about him. He was 101 years old
a veteran of WW2. yes, the "wretched war." He was also a
POW for several years. When he returned home his family
didn't even recognize him, gaunt and frail. 10 years of his
life gone. From his mouth, "I will never do anything as I'm-
portent in my life". Bravo Zio. A job well done.

So sorry to hear of your loss but he was what I would call a "True Hero".

Re: General Chit Chat
Condolences Nonina, your uncle is one of the many we are so grateful for.
Some of you may have seen my previous posts about the Highway Of Hero's that we have in our area. It's a stretch of highway that is travelled when we loose a soldier as they make their way to the coroners office in Toronto from the CFB Airforce base in Trenton Ontario. Over the years, every time a hero is making his/her way home, people gather everywhere along the highway to salute them.
This initiative was announced yesterday and I thought I'd share. They will be planting 117,000 tree's along that stretch. One tree for each of the men and women who have given their lives to their country. What a fabulous idea.
HOH

First off GA, What a beautiful way to honor our hero's
We have walls that are cold and austere. But trees that
have life and beauty. Just lovely.
I just wanted to say that my uncle had a wonderful life after
his return. He married the daughter of a co POW, a 20 yr age
difference they had 2 sons. One who is a Dr. the other an
Attorney. Many grandchildren.

Your post made me smile, we don't have wine here, but you can't beat Canadian maple syrup! .....and "poutine" (made famous by Ashley with JP during her HTD if I remember correctly!)

Hi Fleurdesel! Nice to see you. You need to come to the Niagara Region in Ontario for some award winning wine! We have many wineries! I could go for some poutine right now! My son says the best he's had was in Montreal.
rc49ers - There is nothing like pure maple syrup from Canada. I'm glad you got to enjoy some.

My late FIL was based at CFB Trenton, GA. I missed Remembrance/Veterans Day but saw some wearing poppies on the cruise ship.

Really bean? What a small world indeed! We wear the poppies all month long. It's nice to see everyone in the media, workplace, on the street, it's just a normal thing as long as I can remember.
