Re: Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers** Thread #2
It was Cortney talking about birth control..It was the episode that Cortney was talking to the sexologist, she had asked if they were able to discuss serious issues, and Cortney said No, that hadn't discussed birth control. May have been the fish bowl episode, but we don't actually see them discuss this issue.

And in a way, the fact that both Jamie and Jason waited until they were sure and didn't succumb to the "time table" before they acknowledged it makes me feel they are even more sincere about it. No Bachelor Bubble here.
I'm not surprised about Vaughn and Monet, or that Vaughn confessed they didn't even like each other by the end of the experiment; their mutual behavior, which brimmed with resentment and lack of respect, was indicative of that all along. At least they were able to mutually apologize and leave on relatively good terms, but I doubt they will really maintain the friendship, as they both seem to still think the other was more at fault than they were.
So the experts are batting .667, and the one they were the most sure of was the one that they were wrong about. Although I think that both Monet and Vaughn misled them about what they were looking for, so it wasn't totally their fault. And I also find it interesting that apparently part of the problem for Vaughn was a lack of strong physical attraction (or what he called "chemistry") to Monet, not that it stopped him from having sex with her immediately. Contrast that with Jamie's attitude and it's another good example of one of the differences between most men and women.
I've assumed that Vaughn was using the term "chemistry" more as a reference to "connection" than to physical attraction. After all, they initially had really strong physical attraction. It was later that they realized they simply could never "connect." Chemistry can be emotional, not just physical, and it was pretty clear they never seemed to have emotional chemistry. They just never seemed to really understand what the other was trying to get at. I could be wrong, and I found it an odd word choice regardless, but that is how I reconciled what I saw to what he said.
I also think that the reason their in-take interviews were misleading was because neither one really understood what they wanted and needed in a relationship, and they both tend to use terminology in a non-standard manner. I think Monet, in particular, associates terms in an uncommon manner; I noticed it a few times. Her reasoning on why things didn't work out ("different places in our lives" "Vaughn isn't ready") didn't strike me was particularly insightful, although obviously as a viewer I don't have the full story. Still, I would have felt better about her future prospects if she had focused more on some of the things she seemed to mention in passing, like her strong independence and how maybe she doesn't want what she thought she wanted.
All in all though, a really interesting show. Very real.
You're probably right about what Vaughn meant by a lack of chemistry, but I still think part of the problem for him was that he never found Monet all that physically attractive. Attractive enough to have sex with her if she offered? Sure, but to my ears, he gave little hints throughout that she wasn't quite up to his standards physically, and he felt he could "do better" in that area and was "settling". He was also the only guy of the three who never really mentioned how gorgeous he thought his wife was, or even ever said, to my recollection, how attracted to her he was. And if he felt that way from the start (and they do say that for men, the first thing they look for is physical attraction and everything else develops after), maybe he took the attitude of expecting Monet to "prove" she was worthy of him, and that explains why things seemed to go south so quickly and he started complaining about her already on their honeymoon.
I also wanted to add that every time Vaughn complimented Monet on her appearance (which he often did), I got the feeling he was also trying to convince himself in that moment that she was attractive.
On another note, I really hope that Cortney isn't pregnant; I think it's way too soon for them and could actually put so much stress on their relationship it could be harmful. Honestly, I doubt she is, think it's just the dresses and the camera angles.

I'm not mom22boys, but I'm guessing this one. I always hesitate to comment on whether someone looks pregnant for obvious reasons. That said, I don't think she's pregnant. I think it's a combination of Courtney's posture and dress style. Her knees are locked and butt pushed out allowing the dress to hang with lots of space out front. Knowing that Jason is in the Fire Academy and that they are just settling into their relationship, I would be shocked if they've got a baby on the way...unless it's just one of those life surprises. But again, I doubt it.
Could be too that she slimmed down for the wedding and filming and this is closer to her normal weight... although didn't they say something about not discussing birth control?
I think it was Doug and Jamie saying something about birth control, but they were eating and talking with their mouths full.
I didn't quite get what they were saying. It could have been Cortney and Jason too, but I don't recall seeing that.
Oh yeah, it was Jamie and Doug. She said something about her family being REALLY fertile

Yes you may. If you're posting pictures or articles, the link is always to be provided as the source of the information. As long as the link is not another forum comparable to ours in the form of advertising. You should copy and paste part of an article, and provide the link, or post a pic and provide the link where you got it from.
I checked it out, there is a lot of bridal info!

No problem on the pics. There aren't any of Doug, so no need to post any other pics. The venue looks gorgeous!! It should be a great time. I hope we get pics of them. Thanks for sharing that.

Jamie was teaching her Father In Law how to tweet! It was funny.
Anything I post means it's Just My Opinion. Don't feel like posting it every time I post. So, I thought I'd get that out of the way.

Monet and Vaughn had different expectations, IMO.
Monet is a strong, independent woman who was looking for a partner. She wanted someone who she could respect, and look up to, like her dad. What she got was a nice looking guy who wanted to be taken care of and have his ego fed. To her, that's being immature. Vaughn seems to be a few steps behind Monet in terms of a job, independence, and feeling secure. She was not able to fall in love with Vaughn because she did not see him as an equal partner. She felt she was getting a child and a chauvinist (expecting cooking). Vaughn needed to figure himself out. He can't have it both ways.
This show was edited and it wasn't made clear if Vaughn had a real job (f-time), or if was just getting by, working some weekends. If he had extra time on his hands, HE should have cooked, instead of expecting Monet to come home "and take care of him". This relationship was not equal. IMO, Monet was the breadwinner and was expected to be a traditional wife at home....cooking and cleaning...She didn't need Vaughn. That rubbed him the wrong way. Sometimes independent women can appear to be "maneaters", esp if a guy has a fragile ego. It takes a very secure guy to not to feel threatened by a strong woman, and women of Monet's nature needs a mature partner they can respect.
Most if not All men like to have their egos fed and have the woman NEED them, even if they deny it.
Monet needs a professional man who can pull his weight, and be a partner, so she can willingly do traditional things.
Vaughn needs someone a little more needy, and to feed his ego.
I thought both were attractive, so I cannot comment on the chemistry part.
