Re: Bachelor In Paradise - Episode 2 August 11 2014 - General Discussion - *Spoilers*
I wonder if anyone else caught something that the producer (who narrated the re-enactment of what happened when she tried to talk to Michelle K after the RC on episode 1) said. It was a little hard to understand what she had said but my wife picked up on it and we re-played the scene several times to make sure.
She said she was going with the psychiatrist to talk to a "kickoff" Daniella and stopped by Michelle K's room because Michelle needed to talk to her as well. It was when she (they) knocked on Michelle K's door for that conversation that Ryan Putz got spooked and jumped off the balcony.
What I found most interesting is that this confirms something I've heard for years - that the show has a staff psychiatrist "on call" at all times. On one hand I think this is simply so they can monitor people who are frequently put in a stressful situation to make sure they aren't going to do rash things. But I've also heard that some of the producers have a background in psychology and all have some experience in psychology so they can understand how to target some of the things they do and how they manipulate the cast to get the drama they want. It's good to know that they do have everyone who leaves the show talk to a professional in mental health after they leave but also a little scary to hear confirmation of that. When they talk about the mindf*** that goes on they really are pros at knowing how to do that.

Yes, I heard the producer say the same thing. And very scary - so much for the non-maleficience piece of the Hippocratic oath!

Some of these contestants ARE being mindf***ed in The Bubble and may require the same additional handling as shell-shocked soldiers before getting released outside The Bubble, but others are obviously just doing the show for publicity and only pretending to be "heartbroken". Of course, Michelle K. didn't need "therapy"... and wasn't feeling "it" with the other cast members... since she had a crew member supplying her every need. That is, until he injured his legs. Other parts of him may have not been injured, but he was no longer "up" to the challenge.
I did get spoiled by you-know-who's spoilers... and you don't have to visit his site in order to get the details since enough others recap it. If they are completely true (and, yeah, I do think some stuff may be wrong, but I won't debate it), this whole show is one colossal joke. As Lucy@lucyaragon (who comes on the show later) tweeted "While @LacyFaddoul is falling in love, everybody else it taking shots and licking each other. Here for the right reason? #BachelorInParadise"
Come on! All but two couples split in one quick swoop in episode #6? OK... three, if you count departing-together-earlier Chris and Elise. Yet Marcus/Lacy is the only pair I have any confidence in. I do think a few others re-hook up post-show... or maybe they didn't split as the spoilers suggest.
If this show is a disaster, I do believe the rumors of Iowa Chris being Bachelor are true since Harrison insists over and over "he really wants to find a wife", so they can have their Sean Lowe II.

Here - let me fix this for you. It should be Hypocritic Oath when used in context of this show.

At least for me it's not a disaster. It's more satirical than serious; closer to "Burning Love" than "The Bachelor" with a little bit of "The Darwin Awards" mixed in (thanks Ryan Putz for being a ... well you get the idea).
It reminds me of a story told by a fireman friend of mine (he swears it's true) who responded to a "vehicle on fire" call. It seems a bunch of guys and a dog were fishing at night - with sticks of dynamite they would light and throw into a pond. Seems the dog thought they wanted to play fetch so he jumped in and brought a stick of dynamite (with a lit fuse) back to shore, at which point one of the guys took out a pistol to shoot the dog before they all got blown up. He missed but scared the dog, who ran under their car to hide. I do feel sorry for the dog but I laugh every time I think of the story. I do have a weird sense of humor.

They should have shown us the Michelle-Ryan L-U-V Story, if it wasn't just a L-U-S-T Story. At least they can prove that... *drink!*... The Process Really Works. (Just not always with the cast members.)
Again... when I read "of" the spoilers (without visiting the site itself), I did think there were more couplings coming out of this show than reported. My current "power couple" (strictly for entertainment reasons... not that I feel "gooey" for them and intend to post a heart-shaped avatar) apparently have a "mutual" break-up because he starts second-guessing their relationship and the Fiesty Princess Clare-ol gets impatient and leaves on her own. However, both seem a bit flirtatious with each other post show on twitter, so it is hard to determine if they really did break up. Granted, Zorro is "following" on twitter his other "hookup" Jackie too.

Yes, I heard it, too. I believe that they have a physician psychiatrist do an exit interview with each cast-off. It's probably because of legal liability reasons. That way if someone were to leave the show and immediately do harm to themselves, they can claim that the staff psychiatrist deemed they were stable at their time of departure. Also, they claim to screen applicants for physical and mental health issues prior to casting. It must be a very basic screening, IMO. They probably ask if there has ever been a diagnosis made of mental health issues or if contestant's condition is currently stable and asymptomatic with their current treatment regimen. I say this because mental health conditions are extremely common. Many, many people are stable and well functioning if receiving proper care and medication. IMO, it's riskier for an un-diagnosed person who self-medicates with alcohol to go on this show and be in this environment than it would be for a previously diagnosed person who is stable and conscientious about taking their medication to be there.
I think it is other staff who have taken courses in human psychology (but not a medical degree, and therefore no Hippocratic oath) that do the mindf***ing. I believe this to be true. They study these people's personality traits and flaws, and then push all of the right buttons to make for "good tv". I do not believe that a licensed physician would be the one hired to do the mindf***ing, however, there will always be some professionals who are willing to do anything for a buck, ala Dr Conrad Murray.

Taking courses in human psychology---hmmm. Scary thought.
Reminds me of my MIL who reads "Prevention" magazine and then tries to practice medicine.

. Pretty much all the "Next Entertainment" handlers are just Psych grads... Very few of them have broadcasting or producer backgrounds.

If one real couple comes out of this show, that is a HUGE success. Duh that the others are faking it; they know that they need to couple up to stay on the show, and their pay is probably tied to how long they stay.
Most of these people already know each other so if they were going to have a real relationship, they most likely would already have it.
The best chances came from the 3 Andi cast-offs, because they were the only ones that no one had met before.
This show is a space filler, not much more and not much less.
Just give me something that looks like a real love story to help me escape into my own version of fantasy for a while. And maybe against the odds one of those stories will actually survive real life. Nothing wrong with a little hope, right?
