Isabel, I agree that the NYC trip was business related.  JPG has always had "music & sports consultant" on his social media bios yet that was never discussed during the show as they focused on "ex-soccer player".  In reality, he works for a company his brother started  which his mom is CEO of http://www.folio-group.com/the-team/

The company assists organizations & individuals in setting up or revising their business plans. It also employs 6 additional high profile individuals with diverse backgrounds. This job, in addition to his work with the V. sports museum, explains all the travel and why so many people from the sports & music fields post pics with him.

The website mentioned that he used to work as financial advisor for sports at Morgan Stanley. So he has a background in investments. Also first time i saw this pic.... he looks different with short crop hair and clean shaven.

About the shaven pic you posted:  I could see some people not recognizing him without his scruff.  Perhaps he used that during filming to be less noticeable.  I think it makes him look a bit younger.
