Nonnie you are very observant. His and her watches, that's really cute.

Nikki is really making an extra effort to learn and assimilate the latin culture. This only proves that both parties are trying their best to make the relationship work.

Totally agree! Also we never did find out the extent of fluency of Carla's English so if her skills are limited then a stepmom would need some Spanish because JPG or one of his family members wouldn't always be around to translate. Plus, knowing more than 1 language is a bonus in general.

That's great that she's making the effort to learn Spanish. She will probably also pick it up if she's going to be around JPG and family. They probably speak Spanish at home.

What made me think about the watch was when they were talking to the marriage boot camp guy he has a watch on with a white band. In the pictures thread page 3.

I'm curious. In JPG's bio it says that he was born in Ithaca NY but raised in Venezuela. Does that mean that his parents lived in NY then went back to Venezuela? Is it just recent that his parents and him moved to Miami? Does anyone here know his story?

You made me curious too so I did a little search and came up with this.

According to his dad's website bio, Initially less than 3 yrs in the USA: (Venezuela government sponsorship)
- 7 mths in California to learn English
- 2 yrs as professor at Cornell University
JPG was born during this time

Don't know when most of the family moved to the USA but in Saul Galavis' bio it states the move to Miami from Venezuela was due to political unrest.

JPG moved to the USA before other family members as part of a soccer scholarship. In his first 1-1date with Sharleen he said all he knew in English was "hello, my name is ". He played for (1998-2002) and graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College. Following his career at Roberts Wesleyan, Galavis suited up for several professional clubs, including Caracas FC in Venezuela, a lower-level Italian club and eventually (back to USA) U.S. professional club Miami FC before retiring and having a daughter in 2009. Not sure of when he bagan to play for Miami.
