gruder wrote:As a Brooks and Des fan I can honestly say I am glad that it worked out the way it did. I think that Brooks sensed the urgency that Des had to get married. I think he questioned not only her feelings, but how desperately she would feel towards others if he wasn't the one. The entire breakup scenario was either real and that's truly how she felt...or if she was acting...then what is she doing now? No one can turn on a dime as she did. If it was acting then why was she so hesitant to have Chris watch it. She could have told him the producers wanted me to react this way, and I did. BUT she didn't want him to witness any of it. So I have to believe that her feelings and thoughts were true and she wanted to hide them from Chris. I think that at AFTR, when Brooks heard she was engaged, it completely solidified his previous decision. They are not meant for each other. Brooks will never SETTLE....
I agree with this, especially the bolded. And, he was very surprised that she had settled based on everything she had said to him in Antigua.

I agree, a day and a nite together may have changed something. Especially when they are in the water there are no mics hooked up. So she could have told him she loved him then. This is why I want a DO OVER.laurentx wrote:I agree.. Sounds like Brooks really cared about Des but just too stubborn to admit it.
What notice to the ATFR, is Des clearly still has feeling for Brooks, she was very attentive to Brooks. She turned her body to listen to him. She still had love in her eyes. I believe she was still hoping for something with him but when he said what he did that dashed her dreams again.
When she and Chris was on stag on the couch, she didn't turn her body to him when they would kiss she just turn her head. Chris kept rubbing her shoulder, she was just stiff she wouldn't lean into him. He k Emily did a better job with Brad.
When she said she loved him he was shocked but it was too late to change the course he was on. Why else at the end of their walk he says should I go? He said he didn't know what to do or what to say. Maybe he wanted her to say stay, but all she said is what else are you going to do and you said what you wanted. I don't think he was crying that hard and that emotional just because he broke her heart.
Also when she said I wanted you to meet my family, he said I was hoping but I didn't know how conflicted you were with the other relationships.
If she could have just pulled herself together on the pier and said, "we've got this beautiful day and this catamaran at our disposal, let's just take a ride so we can talk this through" - things could have turned out differently.
I'm sure there's TONS of things she wanted to say to him at ATFR, but could not out of respect for Chris.

In retrospect, Brooks could've manned up, had complete confidence and optimism and won her heart many times over.
But he's a sensitive guy, and the elimination format rattled him badly.

This is a good point. I wonder what Des thought of his reaction afterwards when she watched the episode back just recently. She wouldn't of known how emotional he was as it only came out after she walked off. I felt her laughing about it being good after he left and springing the engagement on him was awful. I felt as bad for him as her on that breakup day. Still think he knows he made the right decision but will always be fascinated by the level of emotion between them at that breakup.laurentx wrote:I agree.. OK that's it. I'm not thinking about it anymore. Just hope to get a few glimpses into Brooks life, if he so obliges his fans.

All this season taught me was that MF was obsessed with getting back at RS and he got his wish. Too bad he didn't give a rip about the product he produced to the audience he claims to like.
Anything I post means it's Just My Opinion. Don't feel like posting it every time I post. So, I thought I'd get that out of the way.

If you were the story editor, and the lead teared up talking about Brooks and her love for him during the actual proposal segment, how would you have worked that ending into the story you presented for viewers? That had to be explained. Or what a mess she was at the "F3" rose ceremony. Those are "must show" segments. You can't air her declaration of "forever love" to the "winner" on the last day without including those words, and then they have to be explained. I firmly believe Des wrote her own story as much as anything here. The story-tellers hands were tied.atem wrote:No way he would have gone out on that date. when she said it was good after he left i felt like that was in response to his expressed concerns on the show that he hoped she was in love with the other guys and so would be able to move on. that was what immediately came to my mind. i'm sure des was touched he'd say that so it seemed to me she was responding to that. she doesn't seem vindictive at all. i am actually surprised brooks was surprised by the outcome but he probably hasn't watched this show long enough to know that she was probably horribly pressured to continue. i do think if she had just not gotten engaged and had agreed to date chris the ending would have been a lot more believable.relaxing wrote:This is a good point. Why did FLEAS have to do it on this season. He could have done it on Sean's but NO he has to pick the one where we loved Brooks.atem wrote:No way he would have gone out on that date. Brooks was there for one thing and that was to tell her he was leaving.
