That would be my guess. Catherine has said as far back as the ATFR that Crista Osher would be her maid of honor and I would not be surprised that she might want one of Sean's friends in her wedding party. Since they just spent some time in Dallas it would make sense that introductions would have been made and now there's a reason for a communication link with Crista.
