I've got two young soccer players. Soccer is a very big sport in Portland. They take soccer as seriously here as Texas take their High School Football.

I think Juan Pablo has a very good, sarcastic sense of humor, and some will take it the wrong way, like he's a player, etc. He's not a young boy anymore, he's 32 years old and has expressed he seriously wants to find a girl and have a family. Listening to his exit interview, I think he's sincere about trying to find that. I think he's going to be a hoot to watch, he has personality, and charisma, and he'll definitely jazz up this show that's been rather boring the last few seasons.

Does anyone remember Charlie O'Connell's season? Now that was a lot of hot fun PLUS Charlie lasted a really long time with his F1 Sara. True, they eventually broke up years later but I still count that as a success so bring on the Latin lovah and his 25 swooning ladies!

Agreed. People need to lighten up. He was having fun & joking around. Don't we want the next lead to have a sense of humor? I know I do.

I am so STOKED that Juan Pablo is the next Bachelor. He's hot and IMO he is doing this for the right reasons. Now do I want his daughter exploited by being all over the show? No of course not but Juan Pablo has stated that she is the most important "woman" in his life and hearing that makes him even sexier to me.

I thought it was humorous too.

I also feel like people might not like him because of his culture or don't understand a sense of his culture. From my experiences traveling abroad, I'm a very open minded person, but I forget how many Americans truly aren't, my brother included. We're so used to our American customs that when someone with a different background does something different, we deem it "weird" or "just dont get it" or misunderstand them. I see it a lot in America as well and I see people with different ethnicity, race, gender, etc. become a target to such judgements.

I think Juan Pablo will be a breath of fresh air. If he doesn't work out as a great lead, TPTB will never have to cast someone like him again. I think people just need to give him a chance and try to understand what he's saying, even if it comes across differently. Also, subtitles would help.. I don't know Spanish, but I wanna know the things he's saying haha.

LOL...I always watch Bachelor/Bachelorette with subtitles since English is not my First langage. So no difference for me there ! Anyway, don't worry ladies, Latino persons (including French, Spanish, Italian) speak a lot with ther hands...

I think JuanPa will be flirty (like so many Latin men, even married ones), but I do think, at this point in his life, he will take this seriously enough- and perhaps find a match. The women on his season will be falling all over themselves- leading to tons of drama probably. For Sean, most of the women, the ones who made it any distance at all anyway, had substance and with one obvious exception they bonded with each other- because he was so clear about what he's looking for in his wife. It will be interesting with this group- I expect a more disparate group of bachelorettes.

For the record, I was the one who tweeted that, and posted the exchange here. My tweet was also not meant to be serious. I am fully aware that the "can I keep 1000" was likely a joke. If you read on, you'll see that I also thought it was him just having fun with his new status as the next Bachelor. And in my next tweet back to him, I invited him to my son's soccer practice if he is ever in Portland, where soccer is very big. SO......some people on this board might need to lighten up and not be so quick to jump to conclusions or rush to judgement of other people.
