I found the boat that Des and the 5 guys supposedly sailed into Madeira on. From reading about it, I'm surmising that they flew into Madeira and took a tour on this boat. Not that tptb would ever try to deceive us...  

One review of it read - "Bonita da Madeira is a Turkish gullet, the kind of small cruise ship that you can see around the turquoise waters in Turkey. We did a 1 day trip/cruise to Ilhas Desertas with lunch on board and transfer included from Funchal and back again. It departed from Quinta do Lord Marina (very near Ponta de São Lourenço); the cruise itself takes about 2 hours during which we could see the dolphins swimming alongside the boat and a turtle swimming alone. We were only 10 persons aboard so it was very easy to go around. We stopped in a small bay, in front of the “Guardas da Natureza” headquarters were anyone who wished could swim. Later we were transported by a small zodiac to the shore where a short walk was made, and some explanations we done about the kind of activities that are done there and about the fauna and flora of the islands."

looking up the various locations sure makes me want to travel again. they do go to some spectacular places.
