Heartbreaking Memorial Service Held For ‘The Bachelor’ Star, Suicide Victim Gia Allemand
Over 50 friends and co-workers gathered Saturday to celebrate the life and mourn the death of Gia Allemand.
The beautiful The Bachelor star was found Monday night, unconscious following a suicide attempt. Placed on life support, she survived only slightly more than 24 hours after being rushed to New Orleans’ University Hospital. She died early on August 14.
The 29-year-old was found by her boyfriend, NBA player Ryan Anderson, who remained at her side through the tragic ordeal.
But it was her life her friends wanted to celebrate and concentrate on yesterday.
Organized by her co-workers at Pure Barre fitness center in New Orleans, attendees wore white or bright colors.
“Today, we wear this white ribbon in Gia’s honor. Please join us in prayer as we toss white flowers into the river to symbolize that our love and memory of her will continue to flow in our hearts,” their invitation read.
The group, many in tears and clearly emotional, stood on the banks of the Mississippi River and watched as the white flowers they tossed in the water flowed away.
“Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering”

Terribly sad for Ryan.
Gia Allemand's Apparent Suicide: How Boyfriend Ryan Anderson Fought to Save Her Life
By K.C. BLUMM
08/16/2013 at 12:50 PM EDT
Engineer Mike Simpson was heading down to the pool in his New Orleans apartment complex on Monday when he heard a loud, high-pitched bellowing from the hall.
"I thought I heard someone calling for help, so I sprinted down there," Simpson tells PEOPLE. "I pushed the door open and saw a guy bear-hugging someone to his chest."
NBA player Ryan Anderson had just arrived back at his girlfriend Gia Allemand's apartment and found her hanging from a metal staircase by the door.
"He said, 'She hung herself,' and I looked over and that's when I saw the rope," Simpson says.
A woman believed to be a neighbor dashed back into the apartment and handed Simpson a phone, saying, "Talk to 911."
By this point Allemand was lying on the floor, and the 911 operator told Simpson that they needed to do CPR. Anderson, who was crying as he leaned over the unconscious 29-year-old, started doing chest compressions.
"He just kept yelling her name, 'Why, Gia? Why?' Just sobbing," Simpson says of Anderson.
Realizing that they needed more help, he screamed down the hallway, "We need a doctor!," and a nurse from a nearby apartment took over the compressions while Anderson began doing mouth to mouth.
Simpson estimates he'd been on the phone with the 911 operator for eight minutes when "an EMS guy arrived."
"He asked how long she had been like this, and the boyfriend said, 'I was gone for an hour and I came home and she was like this.' He didn't say it calmly. He said something to the effect of, 'I wasn't gone for more than an hour,' " Simpson says. "I just remember thinking, he is just so distraught."
As the EMS staff worked on the Bachelor star, Simpson left the apartment, deeply shaken by what he'd witnessed.
Memorial Service Planned
Allemand was taken to a New Orleans hospital in critical condition, and two days later was taken off life support.
Anderson, 25, who'd remained by his girlfriend's side in the hospital, issued a statement Wednesday mourning her loss.
"Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out, and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile," he said. "All I have left is to cherish those memories we made together and help perpetuate the many values, faith and love that we shared."
As her family and friends prepare to say farewell to the model and actress in a memorial service in New York, Simpson tells PEOPLE that the New Orleans Pelicans player should be commended for everything he did to try and save Allemand that night.
"It was heroic what he did, and what the nurse and that neighbor girl did," Simpson says. "He was distraught, it was his girlfriend and he was fighting though all of those demons to take care of her. I think that was the hardest part for me. It was watching him. He just kept saying, 'Gia, Gia, Gia.' "

You can never know what life is like for someone else, and just having all those outward trappings that can make others jealous doesn't guarantee you an actually happy life. So sad.
Just give me something that looks like a real love story to help me escape into my own version of fantasy for a while. And maybe against the odds one of those stories will actually survive real life. Nothing wrong with a little hope, right?

It makes me sick how the media has tried to point fingers at Gia's boyfriend as the cause of her suicide. When senseless things happen we try to make sense of them, but finger pointing isn't going to help. Seems like he tried to do everything he could to save her at the end...so tragic.veg_out wrote:Terribly sad for Ryan.Gia Allemand's Apparent Suicide: How Boyfriend Ryan Anderson Fought to Save Her Life

I don't know if this has been posted yet or not but here is a tribute that I think Gia's mother posted.

Not sure how true this is, but here's another article: http://www.tmz.com/2013/08/20/gia-allemand-suicide-ryan-anderson-vacuum-cord-note/
So, so sad.
GIA ALLEMAND
BOYFRIEND SAID 'I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE'
EXCLUSIVE0814_gia_allemand_ipad_getty_1
"Bachelor" contestant Gia Allemand had a fight with her boyfriend hours before she killed herself, and he told her "I don't love you anymore."
Gia had accused NBA basketball player Ryan Anderson of being unfaithful during lunch the day she died. During the ride back to her house -- where they stopped at a Walgreens to get her NyQuil -- Gia told Ryan she still loved him but then he dropped the bombshell about his feelings.
We broke the story ... Gia hanged herself in her New Orleans home. According to official docs -- obtained by TMZ -- Gia used a vacuum cleaner cord to end her life. It was tied to the center section of her spiral staircase and tied to the handrail on the second floor.
It appears Gia was on the phone with her mom when she hanged herself. Her mom told cops during the call the phone "had gone silent" and the mother tried in vain to communicate with her for 10 minutes.
Ryan went back to the house to check on Gia, and found her sitting on the stairs with the cord "wrapped around her neck many times." She had been without oxygen for 30-40 minutes.
Gia left a suicide note on the dining room table and in it left all of her property to her mother.

I understand some people do not wish to read more about Gia here, and it's your right not to click links and read stories, or skip over messages that mention her name.
ABC News has posted the New Orleans police report. The narrative section clears up what happened, as far as the police know:
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/page/gia-allemand-police-incident-report-20036424
I thought other members here might prefer to read information directly from the police report rather than tabloid stories based on it. I am not interested in discussing the information contained in the report, just posting it here for anyone else who might want to read it too.
