Re: VO & PI's - Discussion - Bachelorette 8 - Thread #1
You know, elyn, re-watching TV Grapevine, I am seeing some interesting voice match ups in the last rose ceremony. Emily is seen facing Jef saying "These nights are not fun for any of us". The camera pans on Arie when she says "and looking at all of you is just gonna get harder". Later Arie gets the "beautiful" line. (She is "excited" over a shot of both Ryan and Chris.)
They are playing a few games with us in the promo voice-overs, which have me curious. In the TV Grapevine preview, Emily says "I'm sorry" over Jef and then the camera pans on Arie just after she mentions "second guessing" her decisions. However, the end of episode #5 preview has the "I'm sorry" over John and "decisions" over Doug.
Both Doug and Arie are somewhat "intense" in their personalities and Emily mentioned in her episode #4 blog about interrupting their fight when picking up Doug for his date. We have yet to see any of this, but it is being implied in preview descriptions that Arie may have a touch of the stalker in him. He was making her "nervous" in episode #2. They show him in the promo knocking on what looks like a prison-like door. Actually it is the door we see on Monday's show to her room, but I am reminded of that "prisoner of love" comment on Sean's date. (Don't get me wrong... he may NOT be anything like they are suggesting at all. It is just peculiar the way his edit is going in the promo.)
Prisoner of love or not, Arie is a fast mover though and Emily isn't exactly fighting him off: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
We now have both Jef and John receiving "I'm sorry". She tells Jef "These nights are not fun for any of us" and John says sarcastically in the TV Grapevine preview "I love ceremonies". She mentions "heartbroken" over John on his date. Looks like John is emerging as the next Joe... the guy who gets dumped because there is nothing wrong with him except as too much of a "rival" to the one she wants.
Also.. anybody think it is odd that when Emily asks Chris Harrison who else in there is not "all about me", we get shots of five of the six guys at that ceremony... minus Jef?

Re: VO & PI's - Discussion - Bachelorette 8 - Thread #1
The time, and clocks all refer to Cinderella. She had to get back before the stroke of midnight. The time she was late for the ball. Now had it of been done in the states I would of expected the Cinderella carraige like DeAnna had, being pulled by white horses. Since Jef is constantly referring to the Fairytale ending. He is Prince Charming. Should Jef and Em get married. I could see the Cinderella carriage and white horses part of their wedding for sure. I went back to double check to see if they had the time showing on Big Ben with the kiss. But they didn't.

I guess they are going for the "Fairy Tale Ending" that they didn't get last season. Ben's season was all set up for the Fairy Tale, but enough said on that.

JBF I love your posts, do you think that the clocks have something to do with the message she put in the 1st clock with Joe, "...to stand the test of time..."
The clocks mean something; you're right. You know how the guys keep on talking about fairytales for some odd reason, particularly Jef. Well to me, the most popular fairytale in my mind is Cinderella, right? "When the clock strikes 12..." Haha, it's funny because the engagement happens after midnight...
What did their note say in the love clock on joes date...maybe something to tie the clocks together

Re: VO & PI's - Discussion - Bachelorette 8 - Thread #1
Had to go back to abc.com and re-watch episode #2 carefully...
The wishes for the Love Clock were intended to "stand the test of time". Joe's wish was coming back to Greenbriar with her and Ricki, meeting her parents. Her wish is hazy, but basically she wanted "a love" to stand the test of time. In one way, Joe flunked the test by wishing for just an event, rather than a "test of time" something-something. Yet Emily may be equally faulty here in other ways too.
She eliminates Joe because she is not sure what "stage in life" he is in and how she and Ricki fit. When she earlier asks him what he saw "five years from now", he simply said he wanted to be happy and have no regrets. (Big boo-boo was his I'll-pack-my-bags-and-do-whatever-you-want-Dear type response.) He tells her something very important, however, that she may not have learned quite yet this season (and I am paraphrasing it here for now): not all things are planned out and you need a balance between what you can plan and what you can't. Joe's promo quote (not used in the episode... making us debate if Jef is the one speaking): "Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I want to make this happen for her, Ricky, myself." This, many of us believe, is intended for Jef... but it could apply to Emily as well since she takes a "leap" into water with Joe, John and Nate and all three get dumped eventually... also Sean later, it appears. Maybe she is struggling to just take that leap too? (Ugh! Haven't we had enough of these repeating every season?)
Somebody needs to post the complete Joe's date online sometime. There is an intriguing jump-cut edit between Joe and Emily jumping into an over-100 year old pool followed by the guys laying out by a newer pool with their bro-buddies. (Sean fans won't mind watching it just for his sunbathing peek here.) Doug then battles it out with Kalon mid-way through Joe's date about fatherhood.
Joe is essentually this season's William Holman, occuping the same spots in the first rose ceremony as "polar opposite" to Jef as Willie was with JP. He is also in the front row of the Meet & Greet photo, like William. Both Will and JP got wedding themed dates that Bentley certainly was not scheduled for, regardless of any (potentially scripted) "husband" talk Ashley gave Chris Harrison. William was spared through Chiang Mai despite the comedy roast fall-out, but Joe was axed immediately on his date and Emily started crying quite a bit as the fireworks went off, so it was pretty obvious that he was one of the Important Ones that first week. When she says to the other guys "As you know Joe went home last night", the camera pans on Jef as sort of an "it is your turn to take his place" sign.
Also, intriguingly, we get key shots of Emily with Ricki AFTER Joe's date and BEFORE Jef's date in London. Not sure if something is being implied there or not. She is working on her make-up, "perfecting" herself after Joe. Before Jef, they discuss Buckingham Palace and dragons. This could imply that Emily is not focusing enough on The Fairy Tale enough early in the process. One thing I find rather interesting is how Emily plays Tour Guide with Sean and Travis and tries to get Jef into a etiquette-course at tea time, but both wind up ditching out for fish & chips at the pub... unplanned of course.

OK... just tossing puzzle pieces out here just for everybody to try putting together...
...and maybe none of them do?
Emily fusses about walking away with nothing (and poor Sean and Arie get that line bordering their scenes), but she is taking that "leap of faith" hoping not to be devastated. (Joe in the first episode promo says you have to take a leap of faith over a slow moving car representing somebody who may be taking relationships slower than Emily does.)
Well... Jef does say "I think I would be the luckiest guy in the world to have a future with Emily and I can see it"...
Then Emily says she wants this to work so bad over fireworks (Ugh! More fireworks!)... with Arie saying that (the fireworks) is so cool. (Reminds me of the episode #1 line of hers: "He [Jef] is super cool, and I hope that he thinks I’m cool, too.")
We then get the following scenes "sandwiched" between Ryan and Chris each talking to Emily ("I see in you a lot of the things I've always looked for" / "I believe so much in me and you that I can see myself with you for the rest of my life")...
Arie speaks (first over Ryan and Emily on a boat): And it is nice to finally…
have that point…

We "see" Arie when he says he "knows" on his fantasy date aboard a boat. Somebody else knows, unseen, in... Utah? Which one in that scene knows? (Later Emily shows us Jef when she describes "what I want at the end of all this".)
... going a bit off course here...
Posted the video below on an earlier post because of the peculiar similarities between Jef's line in London: “Um… I kinda feel like I missed out on some opportunities to kinda show you why I’m here and not just tell you. I was, like, killing myself about for leaving without kissing you in Bermuda and I would definitely be really bummed if I didn’t take advantage of London while I’m with you.”
... with one spoken on a hometown date many seasons ago: “The whole, um, living once and taking chances toast… that’s because I really, really want to kiss you and I have been, like, completely scared to do it this whole entire time… and if I let you off out of here without kissing you, not only is everyone gonna shoot me, but I might shoot myself.”
Now, when Ryan says that second set of lines at the 4:18 mark below, is there anything oddly familiar about the setting? Different state (Colorado not Utah), but same "time" and elevated high up.
Confusing me a bit with the Trista-Emily connection here is the dolphin. Ryan fussed a little that Trista was kissing the dolphin before him at Sea World. Emily is swimming with a dolphin with Arie, who was kissed by Emily before Jef. Of course, she feels guilty over this scene...

Hi JBF- very interesting as usual. It is funny, I watched the Trista Ryan HTD today and was amazed at the similarities. I forgot. I forgot how awkward they were. Although I think Jef and Emily have gotten over the awkward now. But what really got me was the similarity of words around the kiss.
More and more I see how edited it is.
Also all of the clocks, the info that the FRC is at midnight (clock) maybe foreshadowing that cinderella fairytale ending.
Someone mentioned today that Arie and Doug dressed as women on the GD could be the "ugly stepsisters".

Also did you notice when she said "I am falling in love with more than one man" (which they say every season..) It pans to Jef/Emily and Sean/Emily- setting up F1 and F2.
All of the crying and guilt focuses on Emily onscreen and then pans to Arie and Emily swimming with the Dolphins

Re: VO & PI's - Discussion - Bachelorette 8 - Thread #1
You folks have my head spinning. Gotta sleep on it... ha ha! Come to think of it, Arie does have a wonderful bromance brewing with Jef, so it appears.
Oh pleeeeeze! That is too silly for lil' ol' me.
I also read the comments about the midnight FRC. Where did that information come from?
Some of these loose pieces are coming together, particularly the Jef/Joe connection. I think Joe, who lives in Los Angeles, was asked to record that voice-over after he left the show in order to "speed up" Jef being so slow at this process. "Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I want to make this happen for her, Ricky, myself." Of course, we see the car emerging in Prague in slow motion during these lines.
You can hardly see Sean at all over the "more than one man" shot... if that is really him. They probably didn't pick that shot because it was him. You don't know who it is unless you are a super-sleuth on this forum. One oddity about Sean as that we never hear him actually say he's falling in love with Emily or "crazy" for her... or even seeing a future with her in these promos. Maybe he will in the actual episodes. He says he can step into any role, yet is completely honest in London when he tells the crowd that there may not be love there now, but he is hopeful.
With Arie, Emily says there's "a part of me" (Jef) that doesn't trust him (over Arie). This is MOST fascinating since we have yet to see any "conflict" between these two brobuddies. The wordplay in these scenes are most interesting since we aren't 100% certain Jef is actually talking to Arie about a potential villain. Supposedly Ryan, Chris and Doug are being set up for potential "falls" first, but Arie is not entirely off the hook. He is seen knocking on Emily's door, which resembles a prison door! (A prisoner of love?) He also talks a bit like Ben did in his post-episode #5 promo with Courtney. (Benny Boy fussed that he can't be with a woman he doesn't trust, but just says "uhhhhhh" with Courtney despite all of the catty warnings.) The music played here is the same in both promos and we even have "like" rose ceremonies involved.
What I still think happens is that Arie is Speed Racer, being light on the breaks and "picturing" Emily as his wife pretty early on. He is NOT analyzing the situation slowly like Jef... and may not even speculate that Jef is a rival for her affections. This sets up for quite a shockeroo late in the season. She, in turn, doesn't want to hurt him since he is pretty intense in his feelings. Now... does he come back in the finale or not?
