Re: VO & PI's - Discussion - Bachelorette 8 - Thread #1
I have just a general question. Does the show have a $$ amount as to what a contestant must make to be on the show. Over the years there have been many contestants that don't ever get 1 on 1's. They are just fillers as Tina would said from Andy's season. To me those contestants are the underdogs. I am curious if they keep some of those around so that they have the experience, the travels etc.. Something that they might not ever get to do in their real life. For as long as the show has been on. It is amazing how just a very few really stay in the publics eyes. Most everyone else is a no name, nobody afterwards.

It would be interesting if only 3 or 4 of the guys didn't know it was Jef from almost the beginning (Jef would probably be one of the 4 who didn't know).
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Re-watching Trista's season, Ryan Sutter behaves much the same as Jef. Charlie Maher LOVED being on camera and talking and talking and talking...
damn! I wished I could find trista's season and watch it.
But I heard many interviews from trista and ryan so I have an idea about their personalities plus I watched the day prior their wedding.
So yes. I picture emily as trista... both wearing the pants in the family and ryand and jef very sensitive family guys with soft voice and kind spirit.
I actually read on twitter this morning. That MF has asked Trista if she can get a vote together and 10,000 yes. They are thinking of reruning Trista's season and possibly the wedding.
yes. I heard it last year as well that she was thinking about it.

That would be great, I loved that season - put me off all the other seasons until this season though. Ryan was a tough act to follow. Loved his poems and how sweet he was (is). "Check please!" Saw him recently at an event, and I think he has lost a bit of weight. (maybe that is an understatement). IIRC that season had awesome bromance going on, the guys were soooo funny.Shelby wrote:Iluvbachette wrote:Shelby wrote:JBF wrote:Shelby wrote:ok. I am standing by what I said.

Oh boy! Where to begin? Prepare for a lot of clueless windbag guesswork here.
Why do I even bother with these? They are such jumbled messes suggesting more than is probably happening!
OK. First the more straight-forward and easier to analyze “stuff”…
Travis says he believes in his heart that he can make Emily happy. Clearly that line is intended for somebody other than Travis since we spoiled ones know he gets dumped soon. Jef says to her “I feel like there could be something really good with us.” What? A bro-buddy relationship? Well he does say in voice-over that he is crazy for this girl, but may just be struggling to tell her in the way she expects. Chris feels he “can” fall in love with her. An unseen Ryan says she has what he is “looking for”.
Arie, on the other hand,… eek!... already pictures her as his wife and knows he's falling in love with her!
Since Arie failed with Kalon, he says “I have to say something to her” over a shot of Doug. Now… this either means he needs to do what Doug did before with Kalon with somebody else (like Ryan or even Doug) or it implies something altogether different. Back in episode #1, Emily says over a shot of her touching Arie that “the guys are putting so much pressure on themselves”. Also back in episode #1, Chris states “when I want something (camera shows Jef listening) I’m going to do everything in my power (Chris seen speaking) to make sure I get that. Feelings may get hurt…” (Arie is shown over this last line)
Is it just me or am I getting this Jeremy-Reid-Ryan Park “vibe” with Arie? OK...maybe not the same set-up, but it is evident he plays a key role in the finale.
In another segment, Jef gets Emily’s line “there’s a part of me that” (the Jef part obviously) and Arie gets “just doesn’t trust him”. Arie is seen looking out of what resembles a jail. In reality, he is knocking on a door to see Emily. Intriguingly, Sean got the “prisoner of love” line in his episode #5 Tower date. Arie just may be a “prisoner of love” too… or prisoner of the Reality TV Bubble.
In regards to next week’s drama: Chris and Ryan are not among “a lot of the guys” who have mentioned that “he” is not here for Emily. Emily gives Ryan a rather straight face as he talks. Our spoilers say he is leaving next week so that dress she wears talking to both Ryan and Arie must be the next rose ceremony. Her meeting with Chris and Cassie (?) may be a later one since it matches the one we see the following guys standing: John ("I'm sorry") and Doug (“second guess my decisions”). Chris gets the “professional league of cockiness” line, whatever that means. Even if Ryan is the key villain next week, I am mighty curious what happens to Chris in upcoming episodes since we get that shot of him screaming her name by a wall again.
Kind of curious when Arie says “it is finally nice to have that point when you just know”. The last shot shows him kissing Emily, but his voice-over overlaps her with Jef, hinting that he is not reading her well. Emily says over shots of both Arie and Sean: “There are moments like these that remind me even more…” but later gives them the “walk away with nothing” line as well.
Gulp! Emily “feels really guilty” right before Dolphin Boy (which may be Arie). Does that shot of Arie and Em looking at fireworks over her “I want this to work so bad” mean no fireworks apart from the manufactured kind? We see Arie say this is so cool. Earlier, in episode #4, he commented on fireworks after Jef got the group rose… as it that means anything. He still couldn’t figure out why Jef got that rose instead of him. Alas… Emily dumped Joe in episode #2 on account of “lack of butterflies”... and while she cried on the balcony, fireworks went off.
Jef gets her lines of “what I want at the end of all this” to match her “want to find my husband” line in the first episode promo. It took me a while to figure out that is him silhouetted for the “falling in love with more than one person” line. Not sure who is in the water since they are tiny dots, but I'll bank on Arie right now. In the kissing scene, she sports the pink outfit that she wears earlier with Jef.
Silly little tidbit that may not mean anything at all, but throwing it in. We see a dog fleetingly by Ryan and Emily over her line of “why I am here”. I forgot how many dogs were shown in the bachelor intros in episode #1… as if they were all here with doggie companions. Sean also had a dog shot in his not-included-on-show intro.
I dunno… should we take this line seriously? “I have a huge decision to make. I don’t know what to do. I just feel really guilty. I’m scared of everything. I don’t want to hurt anybody and I don’t want to make the wrong choice.”
Good grief! Was all of this settled at final rose ceremony or not?!? Is somebody here still confused about the resulting relationship? Is Emily struggling to say goodbye to somebody post-show? Eeek! This sounds like Jillian asking Chris how to make a decision at her final rose ceremony while poor Reid is just standing there crying in the Hawaiian heat. Remember how muddy Jillian's dress looked when Ed showed up?
Anything in past promos that may be useful?
A year ago, Ashley’s season was loaded with many secrets we aren’t supposed to know about, some involving William and Bentley, but the later parts of the season were pretty straightforward. It was JP for Ashley all the way to the end, but with Ryan’s comeback in Fiji probably adding more confusion to her feelings than we realize, since he was likely her initial final two based on rose ceremony positions. It is interesting to compare and contrast Ashley’s remarks about Ryan here with Emily’s about hurting somebody. (We learned later, post show, that Ashley crying in Taiwan at that rose ceremony… “maybe I wasn’t cut out for this”… concerned dumping Ryan, not Lucas. She cancelled the cocktails that episode just as she had the week of the comedy roast. Of course, Ryan pops back in Fiji.)
Go past the 8:50 mark here.
On another note…
Ben’s anger at the final rose ceremony upset her a LOT more than we saw in the finale… and what he said or not said certainly didn’t make the cut. JP knew everything that happened and understood the situation better than Ashley might have. His quote “She’s got to know that I’m flustered” is spoken over his hug on the beach (concerning the Chrystie business), but the line “…and I’m upset. It makes it a little more difficult for me knowing that she’s probably not in love with me” is spoken over Ben on his Fantasy Date. (The promo shown with episode #1 has key voice-overs of JP that are ominously directed towards William, who had an equally bad, but very different, experience with the show.) Later Ashley voice-overs “We have hopes for something and it doesn’t come true” over Ben stepping off the plane. Then she directs her PI towards Ben… likely watching this show because ALL final rose ceremony shots involve HIM not JP. It is all about how he (almost) completely ruined her final day. (We follow with “Boo” outtakes, showing a better moment between them.)
Ashley says over a shot of Ben’s evening yacht date that “I am SO certain with the way I feel right now that I don’t want to live without him” as if telling Ben this fact regardless of his own opinion of JP. Ames, Constantine and Ryan then take turns (so it appears from the way it is edited… not because they are doing so personally) giving key voice-overs that may apply to Ben in some way. Ben was quick to propose but Constantine was carefully thinking things out in his voice-over. When he discussed this not-ready-to-propose attitude back in episode #5, the camera panned quite a bit on Ben. Here we see JP clearly smitten by Ashley over Constantine’s speech. (The big joke among us is that he was looking at her rump.) That scene is a complex one open to multiple interpretations, but I think Ben should have recognized that look of JP not being the same as the ones he often gave to Ashley on screen. “I thought I was in love. Maybe I was wrong about that too.”
Again… every voice-over match-up to a face or scene is VERY important regardless of who is speaking, since the contestants watching know the Behind The Scenes Story that generally does not get shown in the episodes in question. (Another little tidbit: Ashley kissing Ames over her line of closing things off with Bentley suggests that Ames may know more about Bentley’s true story than average viewers would.)
Last season’s mid-point promo (6:40 mark) had similar stock scene match-ups to both Ashley’s and Emily’s as well and matching music scores of interest. I just hate to dust off that wild season few feel neutral about, but…
Ugh! I am NOT going to analyze that one or see what we can borrow from it. In a nutshell, Ben declares that he didn’t want a woman he can’t trust. Courtney is shown in many of the dramatic parts. I’m guessing they were splitsville at the time this promo aired in February (before they got back together). Apparently Nicki might have had a stronger relationship with Ben than it was edited to be in the main episodes, but there is no point going back and rehashing all of that since it is all ancient history. Dubbing Blakeley’s voice over Nicki’s headless shot is still an oddball curio. (We get the chocolate bath with her afterward with the closing credits and she is spooked by what he will do with the whip cream… um…) I guess the voice-overs of Ben are telling Nicki, Kacie and Lindzi that he has to give Courtney a chance?
Oh well… I might as well throw in the towel and let others suffer “decoding” all of this.

These are my fav ...I hope you don't throw in the towel

Heh heh... I was mostly teasing. It is still great to hear from those who disagree with my windy posts since they may be seeing all of the stuff I am missing. Some of us struggle determining if a cigar is just a cigar.... and we aren't seeing more than there is.
I always believed these promos are giving us clues as to what happens "behind the scenes"... even if not all of it makes the actual episodes. The struggle is "reading" them correctly and the only way I can make heads or tails out of any of them is by pretending to be a certain contestant on the show watching myself and seeing what the lead says of me, what Chris Harrison voice-overs with my face and what other competing contestants say in voice-over (since these words are not directly spoken TO me).

You do a great job. I see the vo clues that you refer to. It is like someone else telling another's story. Fun stuff

I love your posts JBF! Great insight!! I went back at watched the clip after I read your last post and it blew my mind. Even though I heard everything as it was said the first time I guess I just got so swept away with the footage and how all the different relationships appear to grow etc. fascinating!
I found it interesting that they included a clip of her telling Arie" if things continue like this, nothing would make me happier" . Now to the unspoiled viewer they prob see him as a front runner or F2. To me I see it as foreshadowing the fact that things do not continue to go well. Which is a bummer for him b/c he seems sincere in his feelings for her.
The last line of the previews have me concerned. The one of her being afraid of everything, not wanting to hurt anyone and not wanting to make the wrong choice. Not to get overly deep but the crying scenes seem very raw to me. I feel like the fact that she has suffered a great loss love in her life adds a variable not seen before on the show. In those shots I see fear of the pain that comes with losing true love potentially by letting the wrong guy go as well as struggling with the guilt of feeling like she may leave someone she cares a lot about with that type of pain. Yikes ... I hope she picks someone.
Out of curiosity, would you say the vo & previews usually dictate the actually story line if they are viewed objectively or are they used to hide what the true outcome is? I'm trying to learn to read in between the lines without reading into everything . I have a habit of doing that
Also, RS has pointed out several times that production has taken great measures to mix up how things are done this year. Have you noticed this to be true editing, VO and PI wise?

It seems like jef gets what I want at the end of this blah blah
And in the London video Ryan says someone I could fall in love with while she is kissing jef
If so
Do you think these clues tempered by the last scene of her crying
