If it was Jillian I would understand this open/close concept. Emily definitely surprises me though.

That was a rather mouthy kiss at that. Yeah, but Sean is "safe"... as that Wetpaint article states, Jesus is his homeboy. His cut bio introduction on the Warner site (oof! don't have it handy at the moment) has him going on and on about how long his parents and grandparents were married and is seen doing his push-ups so he can be ready for the next marathon a.k.a. Ames Brown style.
Intriguingly, he and Arie were the first two out of the limos (although not edited that way on episode #1, just in the "behind the scenes" rough-cut). They are polar opposites in the back row of the group shot. There are shots of them next to each other observing the other guys as if they know something others don't. I don't know...
Wish Sean hadn't said "I can step into any role..." I am trying hard to believe everything on this show is real.
Well I'm having a hard time believing that a guy who is really concerned about the cuts in his abs can step into just "any role" at the present.
But we shall see...
I tend to side with Jeff simply because of his PI's and VO's: he believes in the fairy tale, he has expressed concern for Emily's situation and he's not the most attractive/fit guy in the house. Maybe that's just me rooting for the underdog though. :greenman: Admittedly, as much as I enjoy the boxes on Sean's chest and Arie's pretty face, i'm skeptical that they are really ready to commit. JMO!

Granted, we're only one episode in, and who knows where the edit will go, but I don't think caring about fitness (and having rockin' abs) = big ego any more than caring about your hair = being vain.ThankMeLater wrote:I'm pretty sure they edited Sean to make him seem like he has a big ego and only cares about his abs.BachfanNY wrote:JBF wrote:BachfanNY wrote:I"m always amazed that the bachelorette can "open"/"close" doors with this many men at the same time. I'd also have to take issue with the idea that Jef is ready to be a husband and stepfather, but Arie and Sean aren't. Arie's relationship with his ex and her kids indicates someone who obviously is open to that idea, as I can't imagine he's date a single mother if he wasn't. And the pictures of Sean with his niece and nephew make it pretty evident that he loves kids and will be a great father one day. Jef also seems to be great with his nieces and nephews. From where I'm sitting, they all look like viable husband/stepfather/father prospects to me.

ITA - I feel like most guys that age who are halfway decent with kids would make a good father/stepfather... it just takes the right woman to bring that out in them, IMO

A delirious and feeble attempt to make heads & tails out of the seasonal promo.
After Ben’s messed up seasonal promo last season, I screamed “No! I mustn’t!”
Oh well… you only live once. Thanks, Princess 81320 for providing the transcript (now buried too many pages back on this thread).
Key words matching key guys… and fleshing out their storylines.
Aaron
Hey guys! You won't believe what just happened.
Notes: He is referring to Joe’s luggage leaving in episode #2 before the rose ceremony he himself left in, but this is shown after Emily’s meltdown. However… “luggage” has connections with frequently used term “baggage”.
Alejandro
(Ryan) (I think you wanna retract) that statement.
Alessandro
(seen talking) Something real bad is about to happen at that house
Arie
(Ryan) Emily is absolutely one of the most (gorgeous woman that I have ever seen)
(Chris) (This has to be) the top moment of my life. (heard just before racing in yacht)
(Emily) I just love being around him.
(?) That's um (*bleep* up).
Dolly Parton interrupting date: Hello there!
(Emily) I am here
(Emily) it's a dream come true
Notes: For some strange reason, Emily appears to be downsizing her connection with Arie in this promo, despite an aggressive kissing scene early on. She is shown pulling away from a kiss with the line “I just love being around him”. Dolly Parton interrupts his date to tell her to find TRUE love. Arie has some kind of “therapy” role here
Charlie
(Emily) I didn't know it was gonna hurt this bad.
Notes: Charlie is the one with the head injury and shown in the rain. He is semi-crying, one of five key headshots shown after the shot of five roses in the dark; symbolizing major competitors to Jef she eliminated because of him?
Chris B.
(yelling) Emilyyyyyyyyy!!!!
(Sean) Emily's the girl I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with
(Alessandro) Something real bad is about to happen at that house
Just got a bad feeling around you. I don't believe half the *bleep* you say.
I actually heard (you know, him say she has a lot of baggage)
(Emily) Do you have anything to say for yourself? (somebody else) Not really.
Notes: Chris is not being open with Emily about something very important and not speaking up when he was supposed to. At the start, his calling her name is getting no response from her.
Another tidbit: In the promos, Joe screams "Emily!" out of the limo and in episode #1.
Doug
(Emily) (There might be a side to him) that I don't know about.
(talking to Emily) One of the guys referred to Ricki as baggage
(Emily) (If I was a single 26 year old girl it would be different) but I'm not
Notes: One of five crying scenes shown after the shot of five roses in the dark; symbolizing major competitors to Jef she eliminated because of him? He was the one who impressed her with his son’s letter, but, according to spoilers, he has anger issues.
Also the resident tattletale here, but Jef states right before the key scene that she should be warned. This raises the question: Is Jef fearful of Doug or fearful of the person Doug is reporting to Emily? What exactly is the relationship between Doug and Jef? Are they friend or foe?
Jef
(Emily) I want to meet my husband so bad (shown in group with Chris, Kalon, Aaron, Charlie, and Michael)
(Chris) Emily definitely did capture my heart. (in London kissing)
(Sean) (This is something Emily and I) will never forget. (in London)
(Emily) (how great you are with kids) but
(Emily) There is nothing more that I want (to make my family complete).
(shown partly speaking with camera shots of others) He was just saying, you know, things about Emily and about Ricki. / She's been through a lot and I feel like she deserves to know the truth / She should be warned of dudes like that.
(voice-over car shots that may also be Joe) Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I wanna make this happen for her, Ricki, and myself
(Emily) I feel like he is ready to be a husband and a dad.
Note: It is now apparent that Emily was zeroing in on Jef from Day #1. However, did Jef lose confidence in the process at some point in the filming? She states she wants nothing more than what he shows on screen (playing with a child) to make her family complete, reassuring on screen that the “true” love more important than anything else. The line “Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I wanna make this happen for her, Ricki, and myself” is spoken FOR Jef…
Joe
(Jef) …fell head over heels for her.
(voice-over car shots that may also be Jef) Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I wanna make this happen for her, Ricki, and myself
Notes: A shot of Emily crying after letting him go in episode #2 is also shown. This is one of five crying scenes shown after the shot of five roses in the dark; symbolizing major competitors to Jef she eliminated because of him? In that episode, Emily discusses Joe’s departure with the other guys as the camera panned on Jef.
John Wolfe
(Sean) Bermudaaaa!!!!!
(Chris) heard him say…
Note: This occurs during the “baggage” drama. Humorously, John criticizes Kalon’s own luggage in episode #2.
Those who like to dig deep in allegories can add the “boy who cried wolf” story here.
Kalon:
(Jef) …about Ricki.
(Chris) say she has a lot of baggage.
Notes: Is Kalon the actual Villain of the season or is he the smokescreen “poster boy” for more hidden “villains” getting a more guarded edit? Kalon leaves abruptly on his own after a fight with Emily regarding her daughter, but his opinions might not be his alone.
Kyle
(Jef) she deserves to know the truth (shown covering his mouth)
Notes: Left in episode #2, but he may be like Kalon, covering his mouth despite claiming he “showers in confidence”.
Ryan
(Jef) I believe in the fairytale ending
(seen talking) I think you wanna retract that statement.
(Emily) (I am here) more than anything to find love
Notes: It is interesting that Doug also told Kalon to “retract” his statement in episode #2. Ryan goes after somebody else here. Why Emily’s last line over Ryan is questionable.
Sean
(Chris) This has to be (the top moment of my life).
(voicer combined with shots of Chris) Emily's the girl I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with
Sean: Hello London!!!!!
(Sean) This is something that Emily and I…
(shown talking) Unbelievable.
(shown talking) I can step into any role and be the greatest father in the world.
Notes: Clearly the “disciplinarian” of the group. Key words “supposed to” and “step into any role”. Sean is the “perfect” model for the father storyline… and the last visible headshot before the “restored my faith” being the most religiously outspoken of the guys.
Tony
(Jef) She's been through a lot and I feel like (she deserves to know the truth)
(Emily… seen in-between these two lines during a pause) If I was a single 26 year old girl it would be different / but I'm not
Notes: In the promos, he wants to leave because he misses his child (echoing Bentley’s “excuse” with Ashley a year ago, “missing” Cozy)? Intriguingly, his clip is one of five crying scenes shown after the key shot of five roses in the dark; symbolizing major competitors to Jef she eliminated because of him?
Travis
(Ryan) My goodness! Look at this. (Emily) Right? (Travis seen from distance walking to castle)
(Emily) If I was a single 26 year old girl it would be different
Notes: The one with the ostrich egg. One of five crying scenes shown after the shot of five roses in the dark; symbolizing major competitors to Jef she eliminated because of him?
Comparing this to past promos… is there anything we can use to predict the outcome?
Each one since Jason’s has three distinct parts:
1.) the intro/travelogue/”I feel lucky to be given this opportunity” setup
2.) the Dark Center with conflict a-brewin’ and behind-the-scenes secrets that may not reach the actual episodes
3.) following the most important white-out “flash”, we sometimes, but not always, get fantasy date and finale sneak peeks mixed with earlier episode shots. Either the lead or final one speaks in voice-over first, followed by comments by others and a bit of “tomfoolery” to keep us guessing the outcome. Most importantly, this third section addresses what the real goal of either the lead or the final one is. In the case of Ben, it was not so much to find a wife and future mother, but just be happy… “Hi”.
The 2nd and 3rd parts of the promo are more important than the first, so here… for you fellow promo-analysis geeks are a cluster “bookmarked” to the start of part 2 “the dark center” (sometimes with thunderstorms on the soundtrack). You can go back further to see the start, but I focused on these portions because they tell the story-behind-the-story:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Regardless whether Ben became the lead for all the right reasons or he was just there to promote the grape (as some were quick to accuse him for), he did become fully committed in a relationship in the end, even if Courtney had to do much of the hard work “winning” him. As Blakeley states after shots of Ben looking immobile at the fainting-at-rose ceremony scene, that night… and this season… was “like a bad dream”. Hopefully, he and Courtney can view the TV show as one and move on.
F3 dumpee Nicki occupies several key spots previously featuring JP, Emily M., Roberto, Vienna and Molly (but not Ed)… and Jef this season. However, that “180” line we all over-analyzed (since it was, in fact, lopped and chopped from different voice-overs) now suggests, re-watching in hindsight, that she wanted off the show for some reason. She also had no desire being the Bachelorette, since her final voice-over also lines up with Ashley on Brad’s and Ali on Jake’s, both of whom took the next lead.
Linking the next video complete here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
My favorite of all the promos is Ashley’s (May 2011) simply because it is uplifting… leaving with no regrets… not letting my insecurities get the best of me. Since William Holman claimed he only watched episode #1, one suspects the editors dedicated this to him since “something” bad may have happened we are not supposed to know about and the more positive experiences on Bachelor Pad helped cure the after-effects. (Key lines “I know you guys feel defeated but I care about you so much” / “I hurt two people tonight”) What all Bentley did that made Fleiss and Ashley upset doesn’t matter. His job that season was to out-roast Ashley so that William would stop being upset for what he did. In fact, Bentley’s two quotes towards the end of the promo are practically word-for-word repeats of comedy roast jokes-gone-bad and Ashley crying at the roast is edited during Bentley scenes not William. The closing has her paraphrasing (words re-arranged to obscure) a key voice-over by Will in episode #5 about going to bed and not wanting to wake up.
The Mask of Jeff is important as a “character”, with Ashley shown removing one in the very first shot and much talk about masks and “seeing through his façade”. Ashley’s promo was also the first to give the final one to us practically on a silver platter. William refutes his comedy roast lines with “Ashley is definitely the kind of girl any man would want to marry” over a shot of JP embracing her in Hong Kong. JP then croons about his relationship getting better and better as if he is reassuring William watching that all worked out well in the end.
I do feel we are being given final one on a silver platter here too. Sean is pretty much in Ryan Park's spots, but Jef is matching up with JP. Like JP and Roberto, he comments on the drama, but being from Utah instead of NYC, he isn't direct to the point "This guy's full of s**t". Chris may be taking the role of William in a few spots, but not all. This hints that Mister Bobblehead sabotages his own chances with her. Arie is out of place in this comparison: nobody in Ashley's season is getting his type of edit.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Although the crafty editors try to confuse us, they don’t lie to us. If the promo presents something that doesn’t match what we later see in the aired episodes, that does not mean it didn’t happen in reality. Emily states in the January 2011 promo for Brad’s season that her biggest fear is not loving Brad back. Earlier she tells him that she sabotages every relationship she is in. Brad has fallen madly in love, but will not be chasing “some dream” because, if it fails, he’s stuck. Ashley, final 3 dumpee, alternates with Emily on the soundtrack since her problems resemble Emily’s: “I’m just not sure where my heart is right now”. (She was over her past relationships but the death of an ex just before shooting began prompted much brooding.) Ashley becomes the “voice” of Emily here. In an oddball way, THIS season may potentially be intended to correct what-was-wrong in Brad’s season.
Backtracking further…
Unfortunately only Ali’s first promo is available on youtube. You have to see the second one to get to “the juice”; that one showing her crying in Tahiti. Anyhoo, here is the FIRST promo: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Jake’s “dark center”… Don’t even ask me what all of the “virgin” talk, lesbianism, “having an affair” and “have kids already” accusations are all about, but Jake is ripping out the extension chords before we can find out!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Jillian’s has Jake wanting to attack both Kiptyn and Wes in some sort of rage and she is telling us there are no guarantees over shots of both Reid and Ed (filming was still being done in Hawaii at the time this aired in May 2009). Several guys lecture somebody on how Jillian should properly be treated… probably the one who voice-overs that he wants to leave and “should have thought about this before he came here”.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Now, some of the dude battling here resembles Emily’s season a bit. Ed plays such a small part here that you don’t have much confidence he will last with Jillie. Fortunately Jef is more actively involved in Emily’s drama and showing that he cares. No lectures on how Emily should be treated needed.
Here is Jason’s with “I basically don’t understand why she’s here” Melissa voice-overing that she wants to rip Molly’s hair out (?!) and Deanna telling him he still has a chance to rethink his decision. The montage that follows his “I had absolutely no idea that it would turn out this way” is one the all-time masterpieces of this franchise.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Full version from the start: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Comparing the last one here…
Jason’s structure is the following:
1- Jason is “hot” and several ladies are after him, confusing him and battling for time. Unlike Emily, Jason struggles more fighting them off with a stick.
2- The Dark Center of conflict… Deanna reminds him he still has a chance to change his mind, followed by Jason shown crying over the balcony in New Zealand
3- Jason is a father and STILL seeking a woman who is “in the same place as I am”
Emily’s structure is the following:
1- Emily is “hot” and facing a few wolves here (Chris baying to the moon... you can tell I am going to enjoy watching Chris this season), but also a mom who wants you to put your money where your mouth is
2- The Dark Center of conflict… trashtalking among the guys prompts Emily to “go crazy” and start mourning dressed in black
3- Emily’s dream is to find “true” love. Dolly Parton interrupts her date with Arie (“I love being around him”) to instruct her on this. She already has confidence that “he” is ready to be a husband and a dad.
The first voice-over after the white-out “flash” (going from part 2 “dark center” to part 3 “daylight”) indicates who must take the lead in the relationship.
-Jason, Jillian, Brad and Ben speak here in their respective seasons.
-On Ashley’s, it is JP and, on Emily’s, it is Jef. JP says his only fear is getting hurt again and that boy is still battling the "ghost" of Bentley (or somebody else?). Jef has to take a leap of faith... grab the bull by the horns so to speak and make sure "myself" is involved in this relationship.
After Ben’s messed up seasonal promo last season, I screamed “No! I mustn’t!”
Oh well… you only live once. Thanks, Princess 81320 for providing the transcript (now buried too many pages back on this thread).

These look like they were filmed at the same time - switch to a quick updo, and change the top.
When I first glanced at the one of her in the white shirt, I saw a young Farrah Fawcett.
Emily looks tan in these pictures. Do we know what she is saying in them?

JBF mentioned this to me earlier:What was done during Ashley's season was, along with a PI & VO thread in editing, one created for just the PI screencaps. This helped a lot in seeing through the "tomfoolery".
Is this something we could do this season as well?
Okay, I made a thread for it in the General Discussion Forum.
MissC wrote:Thanks for the new thread San. I am going listen to these PI's to see what she says in them.
