New Interview with Emily Maynard, 'The Bachelorette'

Emily Maynard, the newest "Bachelorette" took some time out of her day to answer questions about being on the show and her decision to look for love on TV again.

Emily said that she, "had a million reservations about being the Bachelorette. They had asked me to do it previously and I had said no." She said that coming off of her breakup with Brad she really didn't want to, but then the producers were very accommodating by moving the whole show to Charlotte.


As for Ricki, Emily says that she really doesn’t know a whole lot about what’s going on, and that she’s only 6 years old. She admits that she doesn't even talk about "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette" at home and she told Ricki that the cameras are for an elaborate home video she'll get to watch later.


Many viewers noticed that there were a lot more gimmicky entrances than in past seasons. Of those Emily said, "Honestly standing there in the moment I didn’t really notice because I was so nervous it was so overwhelming, and so much to remember, but it didn’t hit me until watching it on Monday night." The weirdest for her was Travis with the ostrich egg she says!


She said that she gave Doug the first impression rose because he's a great looking guy and sweet and that she appreciated him putting himself out there and leaving the biggest piece of his heart at home, his 11-year-old son.


Can you believe that Emily was afraid of what the guys would think of her?! She's gorgeous! She said that, "All the guys had one image of me in their head and then they all said that I was nothing like they thought I would be, I hope that’s a good thing!" She said that in real life she's never been called boring a day in her life.

She said that over all, "it was the best experience, and getting to travel so much and Ricki got to travel with us a lot, and giving her that opportunity, and I learned so much about myself, and they are moments I’ll never get back and never have again and I’m so grateful to have had that experience."

Though Emily’s requests seem normal enough, the blonde beauty has had a tough time finding true love. After the tragic death of her boyfriend Ricky Hendrick in 2004, Emily went looking for love on season 15 of The Bachelor with Brad Womack, but only found heartbreak.

After taking time to heal, Emily decided to get back in the game and look for love on reality TV yet again.

“You have to be a hopeless romantic to put yourself on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette,” she admits. “It scares me to death, but everything I went through on The Bachelor was worth it. I fell in love and it changed me as a person.”

The producers have reportedly bent over backwards to meet Emily’s demands, which included a $250,000 paycheck and filming part of the show in her hometown of Charlotte, N.C.

“I wanted life to be as normal as possible,” she explains. “It helps the guys know what they are getting into with me — and most importantly, I get to make my daughter, Ricki, lunch every day and leave notes in her lunch box.”

Emily spills on life and love

America’s heart broke for southern sweetheart Emily Maynard when her engagement to former Bachelor Brad Womack was called off last year.

But this season’s Bachelorette is back in the dating game while the world watches and tells SheKnows she’s doing better than ever...



Millions watched Monday night as Bachelor favorite Emily Maynard got a second chance at love as this season’s Bachelorette. So how did the young mother enjoy the experience this time around? Emily told SheKnows she had a blast.

“I am so happy that I came back and did everything,” said Emily. “It was the best experience… getting to travel so much, and getting to give Ricki that opportunity to see everything. I learned so much about myself. I am so grateful.”

Though she couldn’t reveal whether she is currently engaged, Maynard did tell us she “couldn’t be happier” right now. She also added that she’s sticking to her plan for more children.

“I would take any [children] that I could be blessed with, but ideally, I would like four,” Emily told SheKnows. “If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s to never bank on anything. But I hope so!"

Hopefully whoever she picks is up for a big family! It seems Emily is pretty flexible when it comes to this relationship though, telling us that she is willing to leave her home in Charlotte, North Carolina for love.

“I have to have 100% confidence in a relationship before I just pick up Ricki’s life and move it,” Emily said. “With that said, I would move in a heartbeat if I knew the person I was going to be with forever lived even in a different country. Ricki is happy wherever I’m happy.”

And it seems like Ricki had a great time traveling the globe with her famous mom.

“She really did become so close with the people on the crew and she loved traveling with everybody,” Emily told us. “I told her it was for a very elaborate home video that she would be able to watch way later down the road.”


Emily spills on the first night

On the “egg” guy:

“Honestly, I didn’t even really notice because I was so nervous. It’s really overwhelming. It really didn’t even hit me until watching it Monday night.”

On the race car driver:

“Arie is such a good guy. He could be a taxi cab driver and I wouldn’t have cared.”

On Doug and the first impression rose:

“He’s a great looking guy and so sweet. More than anything I know what it’s like to put yourself out there and take a chance at love and have to leave the biggest piece of your heart back home. The fact that he had enough faith in me to leave his son back home meant a lot to me. I wanted him to know it was not something that I took lightly.”

On Kalon’s helicopter arrival:

“Anybody that knows me knows I would take a classic pickup truck over a brand new Ferrari any day. He probably took the wrong approach. But he’s very unique, and he is who he is.”

“I definitely thought it was going to be Brad or Bently. I was stressing out a little bit. I don’t know how I would have reacted. I’m just really glad that everybody I met was a fresh face.”

Emily added that we’re in for a treat this season, and will get to see many sides of her that we didn’t see on The Bachelor.

“I am feisty and saucy,” said Emily. “It takes a little bit for me to really feel comfortable, but I’ve never been called boring before in my everyday life.”

Even though her season has now completed production, Maynard would reveal little about her romantic status.

"I am really happy," she said cheerily. "I was happy before I went on the show, but I'm really happy now, just having gone through it and just learning so much about myself."
