Good theories! I wonder where a Jef/Sean F2 fit in? Not good vs evil. Probably risk/reward vs Safety. Like Ian, Meredith & Matt.
Glad you found us!! Have always appreciated your posts. I was krrj many seasons ago at jokers.

Looks like the drama kings get first and last roses (not counting those having them already).
The edit, not the personality, of Kalon reminds me a lot of Juan in Jillian's season... the "preppie" who upsets the Mancode of the house. They even edited Reid being slightly bothered by him interrupting his time with Jillian even though those two had no real conflict with each other. However, I can't imagine Stevie ever battling Juan since, oddly, they both look like they would share similar interests. Actually, I am having trouble understanding exactly why so many guys don't like Kalon. He comes off as a snob, but unless Emily is showing a lot of "heat" with him, why would the guys be intimidated?
One thing is obvious about the edit this season. The average viewer EXPECTS Emily to choose a jock this season, since Brad was bulky and she was once engaged to a race-car driver. Heck, production could care less if Jef was leaked since most viewers are going to be struggling to understand why she keeps him every week regardless whether they are spoiled or not.
For me, the fact that she is fussing about whether or not he likes her already puts Jef in the Ian category at this point of the season. Ian McKee was criticized quite a bit by Meredith on screen, even though her body language was telling a completely different story. There is little question that her alone time with him went better than we think. Yes, she was mad he wasn't putting himself out there, but Jef's confidence in his PI clearly indicated that much more was discussed than we were allowed to see.
The KEY scene, however, was Jef looking at Em first before proposing to Miss Piggy. The editors would NOT have shown that had he not been in the final two. In most cases, we would have cut into the guy going through the performance with no eye contact between him and the lead.
A few other odds and ends...
Even if I wasn't spoiled, I would guess that Sean makes top four, but still gets dumped. Why? They are not showing much interaction with Emily so we can be sold that they have a "relationship". However, he is narrating a LOT because the editors are clearly measuring out how much screen time he gets in each episode. This puts him right there with Lucas (who had a lot of screentime early on as narrator) and Ben Flajnik in Ashley's season. In contrast, Constantine and Ames clocked less time than Sean in Ashley's season and were the least "top 4 finalist-worthy" guys we have had in many Bachelorette seasons, both being practically MIA in the premiere show (although Constantine's meeting was an abc.com "extra"). It was so blatantly obvious that they only moved up the ranks because "stuff" happened with Ashley's key frontrunners William and Ryan.
Doug just had one scene of insignificance with Kalon, spotlighting his "father" character. This is surprising since he got the first impression rose. When they swing from being The Star in the premiere to "Find Waldo" in the next show, you get the impression that something doesn't go down well with the lead at some point and they are downsizing the connection she initially had with him.
Ryan, Arie and Chris are the primary competition for Jef that we are actually being shown on screen. No telling who the REAL competition is (probably Doug, Tony and Charlie).
You can tell she finds Ryan very amusing (as I do too), but they look so hilariously mismatched. Again, I have the feeling SHE... or the production crew... did all of the baking. Ryan sure looks like the type who burns things to a crisp and makes a mess in the house. Like a pro-football version of Matthew McConaughey... "Gee, what does this gizmo do?" Zzzzzap goes the circuit!
Chris is already getting the "kooky" edit and is the one I am ENJOYING the most on screen. The way she keeps her distance from him when they are together clearly points to him never making second base with her, but the moment he started talking cartoons in the premiere (Tex Avery's trademark jaw-to-the-ground visual gag), you knew the editors LOVED him and probably encouraged Fleiss to pull some strings keeping him at least until hometowns.
Arie, again, comes off as The Therapist. She uses that key word "nervous" with him, knowing fully well that he is here to get her over some painful feelings. Fortunately, this episode, we did NOT hear about the ex-fiance in Arie's PIs. I would LOVE to think they put that storyline out to pasture, but... *gulp*... we have Dolly Parton telling her "I know your story" next week. Anybody also notice that his upcoming date hogged up half the previews? They are pounding him on our craniums like they did Charlie in Trista's season as "the one" for her.

Paraphrasing here, but according to Chris Harrison, the guys felt like Kahlon not only grandstanded with his grandiose entrance by helicopter, but in doing so he showed them all up and put them all at a disadvantage. Therefore, Kalon started off with a huge target on his back. Kalon remarked that he was the outcast, but it started the minute he arrived and not during the time of that particular confrontation. From that point on, they were going to be gunning for him, and whatever he said or did stood a good chance of being wrong. It is not that I am excusing Kalon for some of the things that he says, but I am acknowledging that he really didn't stand much of a chance! He was "it" for this season....and I am pretty sure that one of more of the producers aggrevated the situation and kept it going with whispers in ears and suggestions that would encourage the drama they wanted.

I agree that most viewers (spoiled AND unspoiled) are so convinced that Jef, by virtue of his physical appearance, can't possibly be Emily's choice in a sea of hunks, that no matter what is shown on screen, they will not see the chemistry between them, and will not believe she is picking him, or that he could actually have been her first choice and not a default if she does pick him. And I think the producers have anticipated this, and it will affect the editing in that they will show us things/clues they would not ordinarily allow us to see, knowing that most viewers will dismiss them anyway.

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
Re-watching episode #2, more tidbits of interest… although some you folks may have noticed them before me.
First up, I am mighty curious about Emily’s expression when she shakes her head “no”, responding to Jef saying she gives “that look” to other guys. Oooooh… we simpletons watching are not permitted to see that one! Jump-cut to a later time in the conversation…
Another humorous edit that tickles me…
When Jef gets the group rose, Chris may not necessarily be talking about him in his PI. No mention of “Jef”, but he mentions multiple group activities. His clothes are different, although the background setting matches one of Kalon’s and John Wolf’s… both appearing on several upcoming episodes.
Ryan Bowers is currently my Focal Point. I instantly look for him in any group setting to see if something is shown out of sequence. The dude gives me this instant permagrin with his wonderfully dopey expressions.
At the rose ceremony, Ryan’s hands are all over Jef (even patting him in encouragement after Aaron got booted) and he is grinning his pearly whites when Arie, Doug and Charlie receive roses. He looks rather straight-faced when Sean, Chris and a few others get theirs. Jef is hardly grinning over anybody but Charlie getting roses, but my vibe is that Ryan is eager to continue his journey with his bro-buddies regardless if he has a connection with Emily or not.
It is interesting that both Ryan and Kalon pull William Holman stunts while Jef is in the vicinity… it is tempting to think (perhaps incorrectly) that they are helping to weed out his competition. Ryan keeps Tony at bay with his multi-page letter even though he had a rose already (only it doesn’t work since Tony stands like a bull not moving) and Kalon interrupts Steve’s dance (echoing William interrupting Nick in episode #2 Ashley's). Aaron, in turn, interrupts Kalon and Kalon wastes no time reporting it to Jef.
More interesting lop & chop in the edit.
Jef is seen seated by Kalon in one fleeting scene on the group date, but when Stevie starts arguing with Kalon, Jef is MIA and Chris and John are seated. In other words, Jef probably knows nothing about what Steve and Kalon were fighting about and they quite possibly were a “distraction” much as William’s George Bush impersonation was stopping Blake from talking about JP stealing Ashley away in last year's episode #2. All of this may just be a coincidence we shouldn't read too much into, but there is this sense of déjà vu…
Arie and Sean are seated together a lot. Three times so far. Maybe it is nothing important, but we shall see how many more times they are together.
When Emily announces that Joe is gone, the camera pans on Jef. Not sure what to make of that, but we will figure it out soon. Either #1- Jef was on her mind during Joe’s date and the primary reason he was canned or #2 it is a warning that he should step up his “game”.
Doug may have been the first impression guy and a major threat to Jef, but the way he is inching towards the middle of that last rose ceremony suggests that he just may be falling off Emily’s radar. They do like putting the frontrunners towards the ends of the line-ups. Of course, those rose ceremony positions are open to much debate.
Ugh! When Tony discusses his five year old, we get that Trista-Ryan Sutter guitar rift again. Last season, Nicki received it twice, breaking the three-season-in-row pattern of being a final one “indicator” (JP, Emily, Roberto previously got it).
