I don't remember the order or if that was everyone. Please correct, and I'll update it.

The show whizzed by last night, but we had the start of Jef and Arie's storylines as well as the beginnings of Chris'. Not enough shown of Sean.

They're not showing Sean a lot which I find weird considering he's F2....

I guess I am wondering because we always say we see the lead have a conversation with the F1 in the first episode.

The lead and the true F1 always do have a private conversation shown in the first episode.

Yep, that is one thing I try to catch because it is a favorite edit practice of theirs. Usually there is also a response from the lead shown in a PI after their alone time. Last night Emily PI responses after alone times were with Doug "he gets what I'm going through", Chris "I like him"..., Jef "He's got a cool vibe"..., Arie "would be hot in a race car". Did anyone catch any others?

ITA. TPTB decided that Emily Maynard was getting a fairytale before they even started filming this season. Man oh man though, they're putting a lot of hopes on her just based on the tweets, I bet she's going to feel some wrath if she really screws up here in choosing.

The speculation during Ben's season was that much like Ali's good edit following the bad Jake/Vienna edit, Emily's edit will also be good following the horrible Ben/Courtney edit. It will be like the proverbial "breath of fresh air" (just to make a point), and the fans will be receptive and greatful, so the reasoning goes...

We are only getting the tweets and seeing the pictures. It may be a different story when they add the storylines! That is just a bit of editory caution.

I wish now that I had somehow hung on to an article that was posted where someone tried her hand at explaining why the bad girl/guy wins. I really didn't go along with all of it, but I agreed with a lot of it.

What she stated that I wholeheartedly agreed with is that the producers are interested (in varying degrees) in mucking up the F1 in many seasons and making the F2 look good or even enticing (my word) because they have the F2 in mind as the next lead. This next part is mine - they will give the F3 a wonderful edit with the same idea as a possiblility as well.

Now, with Emily's season because it is following such a horrible F1 edit, we may get another Ali F1/F2 edit where what we knew of the F1 (Roberto) was good, and the bunch that we knew of the F2 (Chris) was wonderful.
Or....we might get a slightly mucked up F1 ( some but not too bad) and still a wonderful F2 or F3.
The last possibility is if Emily is boring as a lead, then the drama has to come from somewhere, so the F1 might be a good edit, but the F2 might be a real rip snort! The kicker would be that the audience would be afraid that Emily was going for the bad boy, the F2.

Or it could be the early edit of F1 where they were the good one, the fairie tale hero like Ryan Sutter or Jen Schefft. Remember there are three edit patterns and they will use one (sometimes a combination of two) to tell the story.

In the Risk/Reward vs. Safety edit they will usually either have the bachelor lead/f1 have to overcome hesitation (story arc) ala Andy and Tessa or they will have the lead have to risk for love with a risky choice like Jake/Vienna and Ben/Courtney. The F2 has to stay clean because in either case they are the "safe" alternative that has to be "settled for." Not only are they kept clean, but almost boringly so ala Tenley and Lindsay. It is a side benefit if they can use this person as a lead.

In Good vs. Evil pattern, F2 is roughed up and the F1 is kept clean but in a charming, engaging, sweet way. Jen vs. Kirsten and Shayne vs. Chelsea and Sarah vs. Krisily were examples of this. They were able to take a broken relationship and make a lead out of it because at the time, America loved Jen (she would mess that up with a bad run as the lead but that is another can of worms.)

In Nice Person vs. Mr./Ms. Right edit pattern the F1 can be roughed up, but he is perfect or right for the lead despite their issues. The F2 will be described as too good for them or too blindingly perfect to be true. We saw this in Jillian's choice of Ed over Kiptyn. She felt like rough around the edges Ed was up her alley and she felt like she had to be on her best behavior around Kiptyn. There were elements of this edit also with Vienna and Tenley. Jake felt like Tenley was too pure. Again if a clean F2 could emerge as a lead it is icing on Fleiss' cake. His ultimate goal is ratings for the current season (to keep getting renewed) and the edit is how he gets those ratings.

I've been watching Bentley out of the corner of my eye all night. A couple days ago, I received a message from a friend of mine telling me that I should be warned about Bentley. I'm ready to have this conversation and it has been weighing on me all night. I need to see if he's here for the right reasons or not. / I'm so confused. This story is not matching up with what I'm seeing of Bentley. I'm pleasantly surprised. If I didn't know about all this speculation, he would be right in the front for me in terms of my selection of guys. He seems to be everything I'm looking for. He surprised me, but now I have this weighing on me, everything that I know. I really don't want to get hurt.

Intro: I'm a wine maker. I grew up in Sonoma, California so it is kinda been in my blood. My parents had a wonderful marriage, happy and joyful. A few observations... you know I can't resist.

Going by JUST the editing in episode #1 alone, Emily's season is the one MOST resembling Trista's over Ashley's, Ali's, Jillian's, Deanna's, Jen's or Meredith's.

Ashley’s season was all about The Mask and who is sincere and “honest” (most over-used word). In episode #1, Ashley meets masked Jeff before talking cupcakes with JP. She compliments Jeff on how “sincere” he is. After JP, she meets up with Bentley.

Although that was the big theme of her season, marriage was still very important. In fact, we received two wedding oriented dates with William and JP/Lucas/Ames, in addition to the Dragon Boat group watching a proposal on the Hong Kong beach. No doubt, it was even more important to Mike Fleiss than Ashley, who was content to finish dental school first and take her time. His obsession to get another early marriage on his show, however, knows no bounds.

Ashley was and is clearly not fussing about her “biological clock” in the same way as Emily and Trista (back in 2002-03). Although we probably shouldn’t read too much into it, her season was the one with the orphanage in Phuket (and William, Ben, Mickey and Ames missing a parent). However, Fleiss was not quite as erotically “turned on” watching her treat a grown man’s teeth in a chair or Ali frolicking on beaches in her bright yellow or Deanna playing Deanna quite as much as he got seeing Trista play with a cute boy in pediatrics and Emily checking Ricki’s mouth for sugar bugs. This makes the Fleissmeister’s glasses steam up faster to a climax.

It is quite intriguing that, despite no mention of children, Jef Holm and Ryan Sutter each had their meetings with the lead carefully edited by a scene involving kids.

Back in 2003, we see Josh talk about wanting kids and Trista telling him that her biggest fear is not having them. Josh gets her all hot saying he will crank out five boys just to get her girl. Then we see Ryan having her read “May the night bring sweet dreams and the morning blue skies…” with no mention of kids. After a quick montage of head shots, we see Trista greeting Brian the breast implant salesman.

This season, the basic order is in reverse... kind of… I guess. Travis sits with his giant ostrich egg. (Don’t even get me started on the symbolism for that one!) Jef starts harping about guys bringing “materialistic” things, but you have to wonder… is Jef really bothered by the egg? Of course no fertility or kiddie talk on his meeting, just making Emily feel like a nerd. Right after Jef, we are blessed with lovable Daddy Doug and his son’s letter. Emily cries a little too early though, since Trista waited until Shamu Time before crying over written material.

By the way, Jef is the only one seen OUTSIDE the mansion with her. Others may have done so as well, but it appears that everybody stays indoors within a few yards of other guys. Add to this the fact that Emily tells Jef that she was looking for him and we can conclude he was at least a top 3 frontrunner at this stage.

Both Jef and Arie bring up the ghost of Ricky, Emily’s primary “love”. We know nothing about Sean at this stage, but these are the two guys Emily has the “love” rather than just a “kid” connection with. Like Jef, Arie makes no mention of fatherhood, even on the promo.

Although various guys "cut into" others' time, we were specifically shown Sean in Emily's and Charlie in Trista's doing this. Ryan P. Much has been discussed about Sean not receiving an intro bio or a 1 on 1 meeting shown. Yet, I think his background has a bit too much in common with Ryan B., Tony and Charlie and the edit they have planned will be more about his experiences on this show than his life off it. What might have been talked about on his 1 on 1 time with her? Probably the same things mentioned in the promo… “I can step into any role and be the greatest father in the world.” However, Doug’s 1 on 1 meeting… and Tony’s intro with his kid… and Ryan Bowers playing with kids in his… and three guys with dogs (and Sean’s got them too)… and let’s not forget Travis’ egg… and Brent has more than enough to fill her mini-van. Chris Harrison warns Emily flat-out to lay off the I-wanna-another-kid talk at first. Both Arie and Jef certainly look… er… gun-shy in this department, being shown “on the move” skateboard and race-car-wise. (Then again, the skateboard was chucked.)

Ryan Sutter received no mention of kids until the final rose ceremony. However, with her final 2 dumpee Charlie, Trista talked kids in episode #1, hometown and in the fantasy date, even deciding baby names like Blake as he played with her feet in the hot tub.
