Speaking of dolls... Chris brought the bobbleheads on day #1... and she commented on being a Barbie expert.
Before allowing Arie to kiss her up against the wall, Emily commented "those dolls look creepy".
I wanted to ask about the car/driving scenes we've seen so far. We had the old antique car on Joes date and last week they made a point to show Ryan being passed on the road by a couple different cars as well as keeping in several remarks about his driving. Jef, Ryan and Arie were all also on the team that wins the boat race right there at the very end using a racing tip from Arie. Do you think they are weaving car clues into the edit purposely and what could they mean?

Gotta love Ryan! “I’m a very safe driver. You may not feel safe, but I never get into accidents.”
Ahhhhhh! But yes the cars are important. Arie is the race car driver "symbolizing" her ex, whom she has to get over still. (This is why Arie played "the nurse" in Romeo & Juliet... I mentioned something in this regard over on F1 speculation thread.) Joe got the antique car on his West Virginia date, visiting a place of her childhood past. It is Joe who voice-overs in the promo "Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I want to make this happen for her, Ricky, myself" over shots of a car in Prague, where the Jef storyline starts to pick up speed.
I bet I am causing more confusion here... ha ha!

JBF I thought it was Jef that said the part about wanting to make this happen for him, Em and Ricki? Why would Joe have said that so early in the season? Thanks!! Love reading your thoughts!!

I don't know that you ever get over losing a love one but you do move forward with your life. Winning Brad's season and coming back to me indicates its not Ricky she is trying to move past, its perfect Brad. He cones up more than Ricky this season. I thought maybe the cars indicate "players" slowing down or losing speed or passing / speeding ahead of others. Joe was going slow the night he got sent home and so was Ryan. Joe also had the clock which could represent time is running out? Or a clock might represent a moment in time being her childhood. Hmmm

So what does the clock in Prague (during Arie's and Emily's date) signify? I looked at it's face but couldn't make heads or tails out of it.

That is a wonderful and very famous clock. i hope they got to see it when all the animated figures come out. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Prague. I basically did the same things Emily and Arie did on their date. Prague is one of mu favorite cities.

The "creepy dolls" comment bothers me. At first I thought it was a doll shop they were looking in the window at. But after rewatching, It looked like a clothing store. I didn't see any dolls- mind you the angle limited what I could see.
Still it makes me wonder if the creepy dolls comment was scripted and was supposed to lead into the kiss with Arie.
ie "Scared, I'll make it all better"- which ties in with the "nurse" Arie theme.
Weird- it just bothers me it seems so out of context in that scene.

The clocks themselves:
Joes we were told about it being known as the "love clock" with the love notes etc.
Big Ben is famous for its reliability
Arie Clock tower in Prauge - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The oldest and most celebrated clock is on the side wall of the Old Town Hall. With glittering hands and a complex series of filigreed wheels, this ornamental timepiece doesn't merely mark the hours. Symbols of the zodiac tell the course of the heavens. When the bell tolls, windows fly open and mechanical apostles, skeletons, and "sinners" begin a ritualistic dance of destiny.

I don't know but Jef and Emily are going to play with some creepy dolls tomorrow

It is really amazing when the bells toll and all the mechanical figures start moving. There is a lot going on all at once and it is hard to catch everything, especially if there is a large crowd gathered around.

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
I really don't know what to think! Is RickY as much an issue as RickI this season or not? I don't want you all to think I am dredging up The Ghost here when Emily has barely mentioned him at all in interviews. Arie states in episode #1 "I know Emily’s fiancé also raced and he passed away on the way to a race. Being a race car driver could bring back painful memories for her, so I’m definitely nervous going into this. I know it’s a big risk but I’m willing to take that risk and I hope she does to." This sets up his storyline this season whether he discusses RickY or not.
In the last episode Emily's line "Falling in love is a huge risk" is spoken over a shot of Arie. When Jef read the date card "Lasting love requires bravery", the camera panned on Arie. Maybe these have nothing at all to do with the above lines. These are all loose jigsaw puzzles I am trying to fit together.
Yeah LoveDovez, we kinda confirmed it was Joe speaking the "Leap of faith" line in the promo.
OK... time to roll our sleeves and get DEEP... Oh boy! I think I got a too little DEEP here. Brace yourself.
What we THINK is happening is Joe giving Jef instruction on what he must do. It wouldn't surprise me if the editors had Joe record those lines late in the season after his departure.
First some curios...
Joe is standing in the meet & greet group photo in the front row like Jef.
Joe is also "polar opposite" to Jef in the first rose ceremony (standing next to Doug who had a rose already).
Joe and Jef occupy (but off by two guys) William Holman and JP's "polar opposite" positions in Ashley's first rose ceremony a year ago AND the front row of her meet & greet as well.
William received his solo date in episode #2 like Joe. His was an almost-wedding in Las Vegas... with Ashley sporting just a bouquet. JP's in episode #6 was a wedding shoot with Lucas and Ames also attending, but he got to wear the tux and she the long white gown. When he didn't look happy, she asked him the EXACT same question that the Las Vegas minister asked William... "Are you nervous?" This bridged Ashley's two frontrunners and their all important dates.
(I think they repeated the gimmick in Ben's season. Nicki saw a wedding in Puerto Rico but told Ben it was better to "live together" first. Courtney had a mock ceremony in her hometown as an attempt to see how scared Ben was. Alas... since they treated it as a joke with no pressure, we can count on Ben waiting as looooooong as possible before going to the altar. Ben told Rachel in episode #1 that he is not doing the "wifie" thing yet. Funny how we got Ben and Nicki bathing in chocolate, with her concern about his whip cream, and Courtney skinnydipping both in episode #5 as well. Oh Benny Boy! Your season was certainly unique. Forever free. Forever wild, running through the vineyards with your bare behind facing us.)
Sooooo... it looks like Joe's date foreshadows Jef in some oddball way much as William did JP (and Nicki did Courtney)... I guess... maybe... who knows with this silly franchise?
Joe went to her hometown in West Virginia for his date (as Ryan went to her Charlotte home) and took the "leap of faith" into a 100 year old pool. The editors then gave us a jump cut of guys sunning beside the newer pool in Charlotte with Doug calling Kalon out on his fatherhood remarks. Emily also questions if she and Joe are in the same "place" when they wish on their wish clock. When Joe left suddenly on his date, fireworks went off as Emily cried about "not feeling it" with Joe at first. (Speaking of fireworks, they also went off when Jef got the group rose in episode #4 Bermuda. They may be going off in Arie's date tomorrow but we will need to see what their significance is there.)
... and then, after Joe left, she states that she didn't realize how much it hurts.
This is a least one of Emily's problems. Something was making her hurt and it wasn't all about Joe.
Have to now bring up Jef's other competition this season.
In regards to Sean and his edit, discussed here...
Sean is billed as "restoring her faith" in the promo. His line from episode #3 says he's capable of stepping into any role to be the best father in the world. Also his speech about love in the London park really sounds more like Emily speaking. May not love HIM now but I am hopeful.
Emily makes him her "prisoner of love" at the Tower, but there may be multiple meanings here... and possibly relating more to Emily than Sean.
Both Sean and Arie are playing a healing-nursing role this season. It is as if Emily cannot succeed with Jef (or anybody else) unless she can get over her past. Yeah... crazy isn't it? Arie played the nurse in Romeo & Juliet, by the way... although he was nervous and reluctant, hoping the lady instructor would take over.
This post belongs here, not on the other thread.
This is all a jumbled mess of a post, but it appears that Emily has to take that leap of faith as much as Jef does, since we don't see Jef on screen when Joe speaks in the May promo. Even if this is NOT all about getting over a Romeo & Juliet lost love and JUST about having more kids and being a great dad to RickI, a few leaps of faith are still needed.
I can see you all replying to this...

JBF wrote:I don't know... should I even bother? Oh heck, you folks can ignore this post as just me "thinking out loud".
I rewatched the Romeo & Juliet date and found it strange that Arie is labeled Juliet twice (Emily voice-over and Ryan's "which one is Juliet" dig) despite playing "the nurse" instead. (I also wonder if he is taking on a "nursing" role this season, helping to heal somebody of something in the past that is an obstacle of sorts... perhaps.) Emily is hugging Arie when she voice-overs "I sound like I'm on my death bed", hinting either a Romeo & Juliet reference... or that Arie is helping her get out of her "death bed".
Hey! It was Arie bringing up the deceased race car driver in episode #1. Not me!
Of course, macho Ryan (uncomfortable with flowery aprons and looking "dainty") plays Romeo and is ridiculed by Arie as "Thouest suck". Arie also tickles me with his own butchering of the language "But non but fools do where get casted off" followed by "I don't know what the f*** I just said". It sounds like he just drafted himself into the role of a "cast off" this season!
Arie also comments that Ryan made a big deal about the kissing when "Dude, it's a play. You're not actually kissing her" Yet, he himself is carried away (at least in voice-over) by kissing her, picking out the cathedral in Prague for the wedding... practically. Note how we don't even get any foreplay before their kissing scenes! Just comments like Emily's "Those dolls look kinda creepy". When Ryan received the axe (Romeo being the first to die in the original play), his initial response to Emily was a straight faced and hardly emotional "I am really shocked". Since Arie gets praised by Emily for his performance in R&J and not Ryan, my guess is that he will be the better "actor" in the end.
The whole Cassie business is silly business unless it is playing some kind of "therapy" purpose we will figure out later. (Um... no, I don't know where I'm going with this.) Also Emily still doesn't trust him because he hides stuff and she wonders if he is just acting.
I don't know... No clue what the storyboard folk are up to this season.

Boy this is right on with Arie "symbolizing" her ex, Jef not being jealous and almost like Arie is helping Jef with EM's and his relationship.
