Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
I was thinking from an editing standpoint, they might be playing up Chris' awkwardness at the Highland Games, the deleted movie theater scene and his talk with Emily to have him come across as the immature, inexperienced one in lieu of Jef. Emily is even placed between Jef and Chris in the theater. Especially since Chris is actually younger than Emily and was touchy about his age with Doug prior. He might look way older than Jef, but in the movie theater scene, Chris ends up acting younger and Emily even said something about the yawn/arm move being on high school level. In contrast, Jef starts looking more composed and mature from here on out.
And it sounds like next week in Prague, Chris loses his cool even more and yet Emily ends up still picking him for the F4 (over the older two Doug and John). It sends a message to the audience that she's willing to look past his awkwardness because he seems so genuine, hence his GDR win after the Games. This sets up her receptiveness to Jeff up to this point despite his shyness with her. Meanwhile, Jef is the no brainer choice for the F3 group since he looks more cool, calm and collected in comparison to a"young" Chris. So once Jef comes across as not too young for Emily, he can be further confirmed in his HTD as a big family oriented guy, and then later they can start framing him as marriage/stepdad material. It's like Jef is maturing each episode.

Excellent points.

Jef is ALWAYS...
1.) on one end of the line-up
2.) by the have-rose guys
3.) has a rose already
This means she probably had him pegged for final one practically from day 1.
Sean and Arie are always opposite each other but sometimes are close to Jef. Here, for the first time, they are together. Not quite sure what is going with that.
So... Doug got the axe already or do the Tony, missing his kid?
actually, if you look at prior seasons, end spots are almost always guarantee safety and are almost always occupied by two of the F3 - so it def means he was always intended to be in the F3, as to F1, I dont' think any one position signifies a F1 (at least that I've yet to see)

Hi Anders, Veg-Out who analyzes these things as well supported the fact that the end spot is either F3 or F1. She posted it in the Video discussion page. I don't have enough knowledge to comment but it looks like there may be evidence based on past history for either of those spots???

yeah - I saw that - I know Bloomers is very good at this as well - and there are SC lineups that go back several seasons that support the end positions being safe (and when the middle position was always an elim spot). And the F1 spot has never been consistent enough to say anything with certainty.

Yup... in complete agreement with you two here, but probably discussed it to death on the other thread. Ha ha!
Whether we all agree or disgree with the "specifics" on these, hopefully I at least provide you with a few laughs.

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
Chris reminds me AhsleyH. Both had an early 1:1 (chris 2nd, ashley 1st). It must be really hard to wait a long time to get another 1:1. Feelings are developing with the weeks and each are kept on the high. They justify their presence with memories and each eye contact, each few minutes stolen at the rose ceremonies, each time the other are talking about the connection between her and them... must be analyzed and re-analized again and again. The guys are living in the same place with nothing else to do but talk about themselves (which we generally do that once) and what is happening with emily, the dates, the crewmen etc. And when I say chris reminds me of ashleyH, it is when they had a break down and cried. At leat it is the way I expect to see chris in the next 2 weeks.
ETA: i expect to see chris cry because I saw next week preview of course but also because I think that he is a sensitive guy that "wear is kindness on his sleeves" as per Emily. For me this is obvious that he is a good sweet guy. I can promise you all that 1/ fans will be upset to see his exit 2/ emily will be upset to let him go 3/ he will have TONS of girls to choose after the show.
On top of that, they must all be exhausted at times. rose ceremonies take forever up to early in the mornings, same with the group dates, plus the time zone differences (some people are good immediately while some never adjust).
I will also add the stress to be out of their comfort zone, coping with guys as if they are in camps.
It is a lot to accept, compromise and tolerate. Yes they indeed sign up for the adventure and all but living it must be a heck of an experience.
This show takes no prisoners because everything is amplified, good, bad and ugly.
Many guys left the show early because they did not fit the show. not because they had a bad personality, on contrary. Just because they were not quick enough to catch up. John is one of them and I am very surprised that he lasted that long. Do not get me wrong: he looks a very very nice guy but so not outgoing and that is a total nono for the show.
I always see the bach/ette show as 2 shows:
1/ one scripted in the head of the producers PRIOR the show (hiring the right guys to fit the role, choosing the setting for the date and group dates and who and when, PI and voice over, pushing the buttons to the right people to get drama on tapes, editing/cutting to fit the storyline they decided before, during and after the show etc)
2/ one non scripted that is generally totally not excepted as truly falling in love, the unexpected F1 at the M&G, the unexpected decisions of the lead etc
And THAT makes it exciting. To decide, to prove what is real or unreal.
After 24 seasons, we should all be aware that 99% is scripted, scenes re-done so many times that it lost the spontaneous initial way... the producers are master to manipulate viewers emotions and this is why after 24 seasons we are still addicted to the show.

sometimes I feel as if this edit thread is JBF exclusive. :giggle:
I like to read you JBF. I think your sneaking way to analyze the edits is refreshing. You are very often nailing the obvious.

I love to read it as well, but for the most part I couldn't even start to get into a discussion about it.

Keep it up JBF and anyone else (Shelby, Anders, Veg Out etc -just naming recent off the top of my head names). It really is interesting

Does anyone know where I can find the promo picture - you know the one with Emily standing in the middle and all of the guys surrounding her. The one from the very beginning of the show.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
