Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
ITA that Emily and Jef's relationship is progressing the way a good real life relationship between 2 serious people would (ie, people looking to get married, not just date/have a fling). Unfortunately, it doesn't make for good TV in the opinion of the average viewer, which is why all dating shows are highly manipulated and edited up the wazoo.
Don't want to offend anybody, but I suspect that most everyone's first few dates with their spouse, had they been filmed, would have been considered "boring" to many strangers had they watched them. And some probably would have even said, "that couple lacks chemistry".

He's more fitting with a f3 where a lot like him and are sure that there's a lot more that they choose not to show. Before anyone jumps on me this is just the editing at this point. I've had some f3's that I've liked in the past myself. My unspoiled coworkers have never even mentioned Jef as one of their favorites and those that have heard spoilers are about as mind boggled as I am.
If anyone's being edited as a dark horse f1 it would be Sean. We've seen them kissing already a couple of times.
Arie's the obvious f1 at this point and is getting the chemistry edit big time. The only thing we don't have yet is the doubt and that's probably starting in this episode.
Again, that's only the edit I see at this time. It's subject to change after I watch the next epi.
Bean-
Would have to agree with you about darkhorse F1 possibly being Sean. We're seeing more from Sean and Arie since Episode 1 and I see Emily having more chemistry with those two but more with Sean than Arie as she's always looking in Sean's direction as well as talking to him on group dates. Jef has a more of a friends vibe with me right now and he has just only now begun to start his rise and I'm wondering if it will help him or hurt him in the long run. jef's edit could always change with me. I'm hoping they show more of him with Emily on Monday night.
they do. they do. they DO!!! over 20 minutes!!!! Even Fleiss said so!!!!!! they kiss several times too for those who think that kissing is a MUST to be attracted!!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Yep but keep in mind that Jef is not the only one having a first 1on1 date and kissing in the next episode. It would be easy to explain if he was but he isn't and Emily so far has shown quite a bit of interest in Sean too. Just saying.
the thing is that we will all have a fair view because all final 3 will have their 1:1 versus only judging on ONE 1:1 with arie.
I like fair comparison not a one way only :)
I agree. I wish it was just Jef's first 1:1 week alone, but what matters is that there will be a fair comparison now. Not just a one-sided one.

agreed
the bad reality is that viewers expect an immediate connection once they are in front of their TV because they are ready to see it right now.
the un-reality about knowing this happened weeks ago, that it is an entertainment show using love/emotions/drama to gain $$, that producers are masters to play with images and sounds is never taken under consideration.
what we see is what we NEVER get in this show until the finale is up or spoilers revealed.
the exception of the rules (trista/ryan) made the 24 seasons possible.

Yes, absolutely. Talking about having children and a long term relationship on the first or second date would send somebody running! I am enjoying this season, very much. And I sure didn't think I would.
Jef reminds me of my oldes son at that age. He wore trendy hair cuts and off beat clothing and is reserved socially until he gets familiar.

Yup, I'm sure talking about what kind of new car you bought, what you want to order for dinner, what your favorite food is, etc. makes for riveting film. Most of my first dates, even with men I fell in love with and had serious relationships with most often ended with a hug and a peck and the hand holding looked a lot like Jef and Emily walking in the clip from their date.

Totally. My first dates with my husband were all about just seeing if I could see something with him. No kissing. Totally boring, definitely awkward from an outsider's point of view. Just checking him out. And there were literally NO fireworks. It was on the 4th of July, and we were at the park to see fireworks, and maybe two went off, something messed up, and they said the show was over.
The producers have to dirty up and mess up chop up Jef's and Emily's relationship a little bit or it's boring. Doesn't mean it feels boring to them. That deleted beach scene showed a lot about their relationship, for sure, but I could see how people trying to put out an entertaining show would see that little snippet as boring and too straightforward. Boring, but something they'd put out there as a deleted scene to show their relationship a little more.

We see such a small bit of every date. The editing tells the story Fleiss deems necessary for ratings but if we saw everything it might give it away!

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
I wonder if there's something to the fact that they seem to be trying to lock down on spoilers this season more than in past seasons (albeit somewhat unsuccessfully :giggle: ). If the frontrunner is obvious upfront, why go to the trouble. But it's not obvious that Em would fall for the softspoken skater boy, and maybe they are banking on the surprise factor this season to keep things interesting. It seems like there are things in the edit to suggest this is what they're attempting ... things like Arie saying he doesn't feel threatened and then immediately cutting to Jef. Jef flying under the radar, while being more of a "threat" all along, seems like part of the story they're trying to tell.
I'm not seeing Sean in the same way. Something about his role feels very scripted to me ... they're not having natural-sounding getting-to-know-you conversations. It feels more like a producer gives him his lines and tells him to go kiss her. That is just what I'm seeing.

To me, Sean is falling into the "telling her what she wants to hear" catagory.

IMO, Sean reminds me of Lindzi's edit. F2, no drama, etc.

Cast your vote... Your vote counts... LOL! Opinions based on what YOU are seeing in The Edit... and add more categories if needed.
Put a checkmark in all places you think apply:
__ Emily likes Arie first and falls for Jef later after the other makes her mad, making Jef a bit of a... *gasp*... "default".
__ Emily "likes" Arie but the editors are making him a bigger frontrunner than he really is.
__ Emily kissed Arie in front of Ryan because they both are so eager.
__ Emily kissed Arie in front of Ryan just to keep him amused and angry... and so that production can have some "drama". (Also Southern Boys love to chase and Ryan needed a reason to compete with a "dainty" race car driver.)
__ Instead of Arie, she zeroes in on Jef on night one or... she focuses on him by episode #2 when Joe (a possible rival to Jef) got dumped on his date (lack of butterfies) and Doug is demoted from First Impression frontrunner to an "also-here" guy. (He is closer to the middle of the 2nd rose ceremony line-up and, like Ryan, is questioned as "perfect like Brad".)
__ Skip Arie and Jef. Emily is secretly plotting to hook up with Sean post-show. They have Kalon's helicopter on standbye.
__ A cluster of guys see the "connection" between Emily and Jef early on and revy up their performances so each has a shot of getting 25 ladies for himself later.
__ Emily picks nobody. The reason she had Jef propose to Miss Piggy while her daughter was in the audience was because she desperately needed a laugh.
__ Emily postponed Jef's date to episode #5 because she is dragging her feet deciding if she likes him.
__ Emily postponed Jef's date to episode #5 because she wants him to show he likes her first.
__ Emily postponed Jef's date to episode #5 because Fleiss forced her to, just so he won't have a repeat of Ashley/JP's situation (and have to milk Bentley... er... Kalon... through multiple episodes) or Ben/Courtney's situation (with our sexy model having road rage). We need a show with SOME suspense.
__ Emily postponed Jef's date to episode #5 because Fleiss wanted it to be the same week "Romeo & Juliet" plays are performed and Sean shouts out his Luv in a London crowd. General viewers will be focused on THOSE dates instead of Tea Time. This echoes past Bachelorette Seasons: the music video date with Ali kept viewers distracted from Roberto's skyline 1 on 1 (or do I have the wrong episode here?), Jillian's "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" movie shoot distracted viewers from Ed's skyline date and the William Comedy Roast / Bentley Misses Cozy Hour Of Delightful Drama distracted viewers from Jordan Paul's Jammie Jam By The Fireplace a year ago. (However, if they did all of this episode #3, it would be way too obvious to viewers. Better pick episode #5 THIS season.)
__ Also it certainly helps to have the added "baggage" drama with beloved Kalon & Company to keep final one's date even more under the radar.
__ any other categories I missed?
