Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
Okay throwing my hat in the whole F1 default discussion.
Honest question to those who believe there is a default F1, what is it about Emily that make you believe she would do that?
I've stated this before but when I think about the idea of Emily of all people who have been on this show to pick a F1 by default as in just to choose to choose it makes no sense to me. I really like Emily. I wasn't a fan of her during Brad season because she was so hidden and didn't show much personality. I now know that was all editing and she's fab. She really is the first lead that I actually like and root for instead of wanting "my guy/gal" to win.
I haven't watched the show closely in the beginning so I could be off but the only default F1 was Jesse. There may have been people before but he's the only one where imo it was obvious Graham is someone Deanna had fell for. Anyhow, even with Jason choosing Melissa it was obvious in retrospect how in love he was with Molly. Rail wail, anyone? And while Jason had a child its such a different situation where Emily is a single parent in all sense of the word. I don't see her getting engaged and having Riki meet Jef and build something just for the sake of the show. The same woman who recently talked about regretting Brad meeting Riki because it didn't work. I mean do we really believe she would do that again and not at least believe she is in love with whom she chooses?
Also for arguments sake if Arie is who she really wanted, why not choose him? Graham left. Arie as far we know doesn't. I think Emily is a smart girl who is protective of her daughter and wouldn't just pick someone because of a show and much less get engaged.
Lastly, I will say I can see so far how people don't see it with Jef. I adore him and many of the guys esp. Arie but Jef edits has been so ridiculously chopped up. Emily said something in her blog that me go "uh huh" and it was when she said how everything with her and Jef had been so easy. Now contrast that to how the show edits them to be awkward around each other, a lie by Emily's own statement. I mean even when she talked to Chris H. about Jef they stayed off her face. Its an odd way to go about it and I wonder what tptb think of it all. Maybe they didn't expect her to fall for Jef and are "disappointed"? I have no idea but whether its Sean, Jef, Arie or whomever Emily winds up with its because she truly believes she's in love with them. Its going to be so interesting once this show is over to see what happens. Anyhow, I wish whomever she ends up with it truly ends well.

The Bachelor(ette) Bubble can make you do things that you would not due under normal circumstances. I think under normal circumstances Emily would not get engaged to a guy that doesn't know her daughter and from my understanding has not met his parents (if that proves to be true), but in the world that is the Bachelor it happens.
I think that Arie does something that Emily cannot get past, at least while in the bubble, and that he was her F1 as late as the HTDs. Since I believe that then I can't believe that 10 days later she will have feeling for another guy that make it possible for him to be anything other than her default F1. However, that is only how I see it right now. Maybe something will happen over the next few episodes that will make me see things differently. For now I can only go off what I am seeing on my TV and I have seen every Bachelorette's F1 by episode 3. There is a first time for everything and maybe this time I will just see it later, but only time will tell. I really us the body language to make my assessments as to who the lead is falling for. VO and PIs can be manipulated much more that the body language IMO.
I'm not posting this to start anything again with others as it's just gotten old. I replied to you because you asked in a very respectful way and I respect that.

I don't get why someone can't have feelings for more than one person .. At this stage of the game or even by HTDs .. She is not hopelessly in love with anyone .. Sure she is attracted to more than more than one .. And one will over take the other .. There is NO default in this MHO of course .. But we all have fee.ings for more than one person at any one time in our lives .. For many different people .. Doesn't really differ from this

Well, my opinion is very short and simplified:
She cared for Arie, She cared for Sean, she fell in love with Jef. He was the one her heart wanted, at what point, only Emily knows, but she knew and I believe it was way before HTD's. jmo

Gina, I totally share your thoughts.
Not everyone will agree, and they all have a right to that!
I will not try to change their minds, and they shouldn't try to change ours.

I totally agree. we can have multiple crushes at the same time.
I keep thinking emily saying: when you know, you know.
and that is that! At one point, someone will do or say something and you start to have butterflies and then it is no longer a crush.

I agree. She has been persuing Jef since the M&G. There was something there from the moment she saw him ride in on the skateboard. She just doen't know him as well as she does Arie, at this point. I think the story is very simple. She fell into infatuation/love with Jef.

the promo makes it look like she is saying that to Sean only but she is probably saying that to the whole group before handing out roses. We will see soon enuff.
Oh I agree with both of you, but there is STILL more to it than that... ha ha!
The promo is edited a certain way on purpose. One thing I have learned over the seasons is that the preview montages shown at the end of episode #1 are often closer to the truth than the actual episode by episode show, sometimes revealing behind the scenes tidbits that don't make the cut. There is little question that Sean and Emily relate in religious way that probably won't be shown much (if at all) on the show.
I seriously doubt Sean was a "default" (ugh... that word) final two... or final three, as so many here suggest. He was, after all, the first out of the limos and a high percentage of these people make top two. (Two examples at the top of my head: Chantal and Kiptyn.) Mickey and Ryan didn't in Ashley's season, despite arriving in the TV Grapevine preview in the same positions as Sean and Arie. (Yes, I KNOW Arie was not the second out of the limos in the "official" episode #1, but he was second out in the rough-cut "behind-the-scenes" posted at TV Grapevine.) Mickey and Ryan were probably initially planned to go farther than they did and, in fact, Ryan occupies traditional "final two" spots in the rose ceremonies opposite JP until Constantine took F2 in Taiwan and Ben later replaced Constantine. (Ho ho... those dopey rose ceremonies! How we "read so much into" them!) Intriguingly, Sean and Arie are "polar opposites" in the back row of the meet & greet photo (first posted in Entertainment Weekly) and are each far away from the other in all ceremonies in which at least one is roseless.
Therefore... getting to The Point... LOL!... Sean and Aries were PROGRAMMED to make top four regardless whether they had a connection with Emily or not. They are important to Emily's STORY... and production knew early on that she would be comfy "romancing" them more than other guys. Maybe Sean and Emily are like Ashley and Mister Sunshine... great friends who talk a lot, but still kiss in front of the cameras?
Chris has more "scattered" positioning (limo/meet & greet photo/rose ceremonies), so my wild guess is that he may not have initially been planned for top 4 but succeeded over Ryan, Doug and other contenders.
Obviously, I don't know all that is going on here. Like everybody, I can only speculate from editing details. You folks just need to be patient with my quirky way of analyzing this silly show.

Great post! I caught the "uh huh' moment bolded above too and thought it was interesting and very telling. I think one reason the scenes look a bit awkward between Emily and Jef is that Jef doesn't seem to talk just for the sake of talking and Emily isn't really "chatty" either, so add in the cameras and crew, the group date/RC situations where there are other guys around and the fact that they are still both waiting for that first kiss and you get awkwardness. I personally don't find it an uncomfortable/crickets chirping type of awkwardness, but others may see it differently.

Hey, um, just wondering - respectfully, what is the difference between this thread and the contestant Emily Maynard thread? One type of discussion here and a different type there? Thanks!
