Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
I find comparisons of this season to Trista's more apropo than Deanna's.
1. Emily is NOTHING like Deanna, except that they were both southern. Emily is a lot more like Trista in that they both thought about the issues and values needed for marriage beyond just sexual attraction.
2. Charlie, like Ari, was the hot one, the frontrunner. Trista's friends LOVED him. He was also portrayed as a good guy who just lost out bc Trista formed a deeper connection with Ryan as the season progressed but there was nothing wrong with him. He was VERY gracious in losing and all three remain friends to this day.

In past seasons, HAS THE LEAD EVER SENT A PERSON HOME DURING A 1:1 IN THE 2nd EPISODE?
If the answer is yes, then I have no idea why the edit seems strange. If the answer is no, then it could explain the weird edit as it would entirely change tptb's story boards. Just talked it over with my son who is in television editing and according to him the story boards are very important to the progression of the story. If it changes early for some reason then the editors who thought they had the show all planned out and ready for the film to begin editing have to totally rethink the whole thing.
If the answer is no, then it opens up all kinds of possibilities.
The answer is NO. This is the first time that the lead has sent someone home on an episode 2 1 on 1 date.
I agree that the order the dates were given out this season is wonky. And as a result, it's the first season (of the longer seasons) where not only did two of the F4 only get one solo date, but the F2 apparently only got one solo date. Yeah, definitely wonky.
Doesn't Jef get 2 solo dates before hometowns? (London and Prague)
By F2, I meant Sean (Jef is F1). Never before (in the longer format) has the runner up only gotten one solo date.

Seton, ITA with this. The more i see and hear Emily, both on the show and in post-show interviews, I feel that she is approaching this much like Trista. I think Charlie=Arie and Ryan=Jef. Trista was all about Charlie early in the season and really started to fall for Ryan after his 1-1 and it was solidified during HTD's. Trista also had some good chemistry early on with her F3 guy.

Sorry… was away from here for while.
Actually we are all naïve about this show, but each season become more and more like The Truman Show…
…or The Muppet Show with puppeteers not only manipulating Kermit and Miss Piggy, but a bunch of naïve contestants.
Wow! I do see how Alessandro would get mistaken though.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Arie and Sean are confusing subjects to study since so many of their scenes are… odd.
Usually... production does want the show to look somewhat “real” and would be very happy to see shocked expressions on their faces when dumped.
This situation regarding Ryan wanting to be the Bachelor in the promos reminds me of what happened with Jillian’s Jake Pavelka going through that Austin hometown stunt “ratting out” Wes Hayden instead of final one Ed for “girlfriends”. Add to this what Jesse admitted to regarding Deanna’s season with assorted “you can be the next Bachelor” talk and you can easily guess how they manipulate some guys to stick around.
Intriguingly, a year ago in the “behind-the-scenes” preview on TV Grapevine, Mickey was #1 out of the limo and Ryan Park #2, occupying Sean and Arie’s exact spots in their “behind-the-scenes”. Mickey was Cosmo Bachelor already, clearly not cast for Ashley. Now, Ryan wowed Ashley a lot and might have been a prospective final one had there been no JP or William in the picture. Yet… don’t you think he wowed production even more than Ashley? PRE-show, that is?
Obviously nobody can agree or disagree here with all of this lop & chop in the edit… so those of you thinking somebody like Arie was ahead of Jef early on (maybe not you nd4reality necessarily) can continue arguing your points. It is all good. They are definitely hiding Jef even more than they did Roberto in his mid-season episodes… although not quite as much as Sean.
(I still think… *chuckle chuckle*… Jef’s solo date was delayed to week #5 NOT because he wasn’t opening up to her or she didn’t like him as much as others, but because production panicked that there would be no show if he had it when JP or Courtney did.)
Yeah, you are so right. We try every season though!
A few little things that make me chuckle now… (Did I post these here already?)
Trista can't stop talking babies with Chris Harrison.
Emily can't stop talking babies with Chris Harrison.
On the other hand...
Ryan Sutter '03 intro: "The best thing that could happen to me is I could fall in love with Trista and she in me and we could ride into the sunset happily ever after." No marriage or babytalk here.
Jef '12 intro: "I believe in the fairytale." No marriage or babytalk here.
Charlie, Trista's F2 dumpee, wants to "meet the right woman"
Arie wants to "find the right girl"
Word used a lot in Trista's season, especially by Charlie: hopeless romantic
Word used a lot in Emily's season, especially by Emily... and Kalon (?!): hopeless romantic
A bunch of guys in their intros for Trista's season say they want to be daddies.
At least three in Emily's are already and one went bye-bye because he missed the little brute, I mean, tyke.
Trista sent home the 41 year old with no kids the first night.
Emily sent home the 41 year old with six kids the first night.
Before Ryan's meeting with Trista in episode #1, discussing his poem, we get Josh saying he will give Trista five boys to get her girl. (Afterward, we get Brian the breast implant salesman.)
Jef's meeting with Emily in episode #1, discussing his skateboard, is before Doug is crowned a "good dad" thanks to his letter. (Before, we get Travis' egg.)
OK... that last editing trick was a vague comparison... perhaps.
Not once do we hear that Ryan OR Russ would make great daddies in Trista's PIs. Charlie, her final 2 dumpee, gets babies discussed in episode #1 and the fantasy dates.
Not once do we hear that Jef OR Arie would make great daddies, apart from fleeting mention on the group date. Sean gets his daddy speech previewed in episode #1's promo and he gets a group rose by showing he will make a great one.
On the plus side, Ryan is shown playing with the dog in a fatherly way in episode #3... on ground level.
On the plus side, Jef is shown playing with a human kid in a fatherly way in episode #3... on ground level.
... and Chris Harrison tells Trista in episode #1 "Maybe one of them your future husband?" as the camera pans on three guys with Ryan in the middle.
Emily's episode #1 promo has the voice-over "I want to meet my husband so bad" over a cluster of guys with Jef in the middle.
... and Trista sees multiple weddings with Ryan on the episode #2 group date.
Emily gets Jef to propose to Miss Piggy on the episode #2 group date.
Russ, Trista's F3, gets the first solo date. Charlie, her F2, gets the second. Ryan gets the last.
Arie gets the first solo date. Sean gets his in London, but before Jef... last of the final three.
Missy, Sarah and Shannon (from Alex's season) all grill Trista's boys in episode #3. They think Charlie is so hot. He's got The Look.
Emily's buds grill her boys in episode #3. They think Sean is hot... and make Sean do more than Charlie had to.
Ah... but Bob Guiney tells us in episode #2 that Trista and Ryan are so different... almost opposites. She is outgoing, while he is shy. Later Charlie feels if Ryan is her "type" than he isn't.
Likewise, Chris says in an edited-out-of-sequence PI that he sees nothing special between Emily and Jef in episode#2. (Actually, many of us think Chris is talking about somebody other than Jef, but it is funny how it was edited as if he was talking about Jef.)
Ryan had his hometown before Russ. Charlie had his last.
Jef had his hometown shot before Arie. Sean had his last.

I so, so wish they would show us some of the scenes while the boys and chris are seeing Alessandro making his crosses and hanging them. Even funnier is that one of the contestants recently said the Vampire that Alessandro thought was in the house was Stevie. Too funny. And poor Jef- I can't imagine what he thought. Crazy Town.
Wow! I do see how Alessandro would get mistaken though.

Now I am not jumping to conclusions that they were hired actors to fill the Fantasy Date roles so that Emily can stay "chaste"... maybe they really are innocents who fell head over heels in love with Emily and left broken-hearted... (and just happen to be "around" Jefie a lot like bodyguards in group settings... as if protecting Fleiss' precious cargo). "
Would you say if this happened that they would have gone to Arie and Sean after a few weeks, once the guys have the sense Jef is the one? It makes sense to me.

Just so I am not the only one "seeing things" here... like The Count's bats.
Yeah I know I'm batty already.
