Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
I didn't get the sense she was saying he was better than the other guys or the show, but I agree with her that he's not the kind of guy I would have expected to be on the show either. Based on the hipster vibe he gives off, I'd expect him to see this show as kind of silly and uncool. But obviously, he kept an open mind and gave it a chance, and it seems to have worked out for him.

You're probably right in that he finds this show silly, and I also recall some tweets from his friends pre-season laughing about the thought of him being on it, which would confirm that. And he may well have told Emily (and they may joke about it now) that he can't believe he ever agreed to go on it. I can't explain it, but there's just something about that public comment that leads me to believe it would only be the sort of thing one would say about the guy one picked.

I didn't start watching until Deanna's season and I thought some of the guys got to stay in the mansion with Deanna the first week or something like that (not sure how they decided who). I know they couldn't do that with Em obviously but was wondering if Deanna's was an anomaly, because that seemed to throw an interesting twist into the mix.
The men who got to stay in the mansion were the rose recipients for that week - the first 3 gays in the mans were Jeremy, Jesse and Richard because she had given them the FIRs.
After the next RC those men would move back down to the bunkhouse and the gays who received date roses that week would move in.

Yes, and they repeated this isn Jillian's season, when rose recipients Wes, Jake, Ed, and maybe Mike Steinberg? got to stay in the mansion. I remember a clip of Wes and Jake cooking breakfast in the mansion.

Coincidental typos, or are you telling us how you really feel, Anders?

JBF, anders is correct. It was called into question that she leaked a secret about this season just the way she said it in response to the question asked. Add to it that Cassie hightailed it to Twitter to offer clarification that it was about Brad, and it makes you curious.
Yeah... Cassie's clarification = damage control
That's OK. I'm dropping the subject for now and will go along with the mass opinion. It reeeeeeally doesn't matter much anyway.
My primary goal this season is to find a lovely lop & chop segment worthy enough to match the Phuket orphanage date in Ashley's episode #4. No other group date in the history of the franchise has given me so many moments of guilty pleasure... from the elephants progressing and degressing on Benny Boy's wall to... Ashley appearing to leave the building she and JP were painting the walls pink so that she can see what Ben was doing "in another building" (on a wall... outside the room she and JP were painting pink)... to Ryan abruptly getting up to take a leak, but appearing to be "mad" at JP arriving with Ashley all wet (when it is obvious that he is one of four guys grinning at them in the window)... to Ashley's hair going from soaking wet to pre-umbrella dry to soaked again (she was at her most soaked talking to Mister Sunshine who wanted details... "WE have it", "You're absolutely right", "Right?" "You're absolutely right")... all culminating with West's boo-boo in his press release (being dumped at the rose ceremony that episode) "You could see whenever, you know, we were in a group together and she was there, she tended to gravitate towards him…"
Looks like we started getting it with the post-Muppets party, including the cute little voice-over dub over Chris' face when he was just watching the obvious. Yet, I want more to sink my teeth into.

Precisely. I don't see anything wrong with the way that Jef is responding to things. Anyone who is objectively looking at the show can see that he's not comfortable. That doesn't mean that he doesn't maybe like Emily, but he's probably--like any normal person--wondering, "What in the hell am I doing here?" It's like Mary Poppins Twilight zone up in there.
Point is, does anyone look at Jef and think he's the type who would say, "Yesssssss! Sign me up immediately. Let's make some babies." ? Hell no. Is it refreshing to have him there? Sure is. Might he "fall in love in a hopeless place?" Quite possibly. So bring on my little sourpuss Jef. His frown will turn rightside up in time.
I mean, not everyone can be smiling-like-a-goofball Ryan. God love Ryguy and bless his machoman heart.

Good points, veg, and I actually think that both Jef and Ryan seem to be responding in real, albeit very different ways, to the artifices of this show, which is maybe why they've become my favorites for now.
I think Ryan has already assessed that he and Emily aren't going to end up together, and so is just enjoying himself, finding the ridiculousness of the setups and the producer intervention amusing, and reveling in the chance to bond with some new buddies, like any typical athlete would (I cannot wait to see how excited he gets when he finds out about all the travel they'll be doing!). Jef, OTOH, is still uncomfortable with the combination of structured cheesiness and macho posturing that he finds himself in, and is possibly already starting to bristle a tad at the producer attempts at manipulation, all the while realizing that if he allows himself to get invested in Emily, he will have to endure much more of this, and can't just blithely go along for the ride like Ryan is doing.

Good points as usual. I am thinking that he may actually like Emily at least a little cause he sure seem uncomfortable and wouldn't be surprised if he was looking for a way to get out of there. He may not have a deer in the headlights looks but he definitely has a "you've got to be kidding me" look most of the time. To watch the looks on his face is actually been pretty entertaining for me.
