so I googled it and it sounds like puke-it, definitely not what initially comes to mind. Although Puke-it sounds rather unappetizing. :pale: :puke:

Whenever I've seen someone on TV pronounce it, it was always FOO-Kett... but we all know how it really should be pronounced, so I say, Phuket, just pronounce it that way.... :winkie:

uo,uo, I know....I finally have an answer. I used to work for Marriott and we got a new resort in Phuket, big joke about how to say it, so we all had to get a lesson on how to say it correctly....we were taught, Poo-ket, the h is just silent(and the oo like in Boot, like Poo in the diaper) :P . Imagine the nicknames when we weren't happy with the project.

ETA..just saw the post explain it. Puket..more like puke...we'll have to see how the show plays out as to which way I pronounce it. :evilgrin:

Phuket. Has 500,000 residents/visitors during tourist season. Not a sleepy destination. MAJOR European/Asian destination, and more recently USA. But you never know. Maybe Mr. Random Tourist is a source.

With all the recent earthquakes around the ring of fire, I'd be nervous heading out to Phuket. I've heard it's beautiful and the tourist areas have rebounded, but the more remote areas are still devastated by the 2004 tsunami.

I agree with debt2dreams. When I was there, it was pronounced Poo-Ket. the "h" is silent.
