@Newto I think marriage before kids is great. But I don’t think marriage just to have kids is. IMO it is better to have children without marriage then force marriage and have it end and the children feel they are at fault.

I also have friends who had their child alone, they wanted a child and time was ticking and they hadn’t found a good man. They are great mom’s with great and happy kids.

For me, marriage is preferable, but having happy children is most important.

I think having children is great for anyone wanting them, but it's not like buying and caring for a goldfish.
There is a lot of accountability and work that goes into raising children.
Ideally, a parent is on 24/7 with lots of responsibility there. Besides your own physical, mental, emotional and financial needs to meet, you now have those of another. 
It certainly can be done singly and on your own, but there are reasons for the saying "it takes a village". 
Hopefully anyone contemplating parenthood has a good support system in place. Parenthood under the best of circumstances is challenging and difficult at times. 
That cute little cooing cherub doesn't stay that way.

Yes, living arrangements are very different compared to what may of been the "old standard" of getting married before kids, and as the old nursery ryme goes "first comes love, then comes marriage, then _______in a baby carriage". I think now because many want their own independance as well as being in a committed relationship, getting married first just isn't the all to end all anymore....IMO
