The Masked Singer, The Bachelor axed from Channel 10 in 2024
Channel ten death spiral?
The second article talks about how without the Bachelor, Ten has a big hole to fill, and speculates on Australia ending up with only two commercial free-to-air broadcast channels. Tbh for the Bachelor franchise that could work out because Nine might end up with the rights and I believe they have the rights to the US show, as they often show it much later on streaming-only. While I wouldn't want the MAFS producers touching it with a ten foot pole, they would have a different level of budget for the show I think
Channel 10 has confirmed The Masked Singer and The Bachelor will not be returning this year.
It comes after panellist Dave Hughes dropped the bombshell on his radio show that there was no production schedule for The Masked Singer in sight, and Osher Günsberg hinted The Bachelor was also off the cards.
“Network 10 will be packing away the masks and roses this year, confirming that The Masked Singer and The Bachelor franchises won’t appear in its program schedule,” a Channel 10 spokesman told news.com.au in a statement.
...
Günsberg said on Tuesday the news of his shows not returning was something he was always prepared for, referring to the time he was standing next to Hughes for the 2009 Upfronts when Australian Idol was confirmed to be coming back the following year.
“It never came back,” he said. “This is the job that I chose.”
He added: “Like anything, things come and go, that’s all right, that’s the gig and it’s fine. I know the show is not not coming back because I did a bad job, I can tell you that.”

So after today's costs ruling in the Lehrmann defo case, Brucey boy has been ordered to pay even more of Ch 10's costs than originally expected, but he's "not fazed" because he reckons he's broke.
As a consequence, Ch 10 will probably have to pay their own lawyers (which current estimates put at $8-10 million). Could be the death of the entire network since they've been on the skids for years.
Meaning that after 12 seasons, a show about one man dating multiple women might have been shut down by a conservative, misogynistic liar and, according to Judge Lee, rapist. It's almost poetic
Channel 7 is in trouble too. Stokes has been financially backing and platforming men of questionable character (Ben Roberts-Smith, Lehrmann) and the vibe of the channel is slipping further and further to the right (some shocking interviews on Sunrise of late).
Combine with the impending sh*tstorm when the suppression order is lifted on a certain couple of Ch 7 "personalities" currently before the courts on multiple charges of paedophilia and child abuse (*cough MKR cough*) and I could see 7 following 10 into the grave.
I would still like to see another season of Bette though. With a decent lead and carefully handpicked cast of non-toxic men. The ratings for the last season of Bach were so bad it's hard to imagine Bette doing worse. Maybe it is time for Ch 9 to take the wheel...

yeah true about 7. Really, free to air is just on its last legs overall with 9 just being the one holding on the tightest, but streaming will kill them in the end too (although as part owners of Stan, they're in a better position than 10, which is aligned with the flailing Paramount+). I'm lucky to watch two shows a year if that, and then its only on catchup so they could have just been streaming shows in the first place. Eventually everything will just be streaming.
I'd love for the franchise to continue, with different people looking after it and a different host.
