It’s no secret that ABC wanted Emily Maynard to be The Bachelorette something desperate, but according to a new report, producers were so anxious to get the southern beauty to sign on they were willing to go to extremes. And tolerate some pretty diva behavior!
Many were surprised when Emily seemed to have a abrupt change of heart about finding love on TV after a first failed attempt, but according to In Touch Weekly (via their print edition), producers agreed to accommodate all of her demands in order for her to agree to the show – including moving the Bachelor house to her hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. And the network is reportedly paying Emily a whopping $250,000!
A source close to Emily disputes that she is getting a huge fee to appear on the show, telling RumorFix that Emily is not being paid. “None of the reports are true. None of the contestants go on the show for money – only for love.”
Even more surprising is how far the network is willing to go for Emily’s cooperation. “The producers have completely changed the format this season in order to meet Emily’s demands,” a source tells In Touch. Emily has some pretty strict demands for her potential suitors, too. She allegedly requested that producers “pre-qualify” the men to make sure she isn’t getting any losers – or any broke guys. “She wanted only the best-looking, most mannered guys,” the source reveals.
After viewing former competitor Ashley Hebert‘s season, Emily made it perfectly clear she is not accepting any Bentley Williams-esque villains. Furthermore, Emily knows what she’s looking for and the single mom is quickly sending men home! “She’s whittling it down to a handful of candidates who she will spend a lot more time with,” an insider explains. “If she doesn’t like a guy, he’s gone.” During a recent group date in Bermuda where the men were involved in a boat race, a source claims that Emily “had the producers change the teams so that her top guys were in the same boat.”
Most surprisingly, is that after Emily insisted that her six-year-old daughter Ricki would have no interaction with any of her dates, a source is reporting that Emily is keeping Ricki very involved. “She took one of the guys to watch Ricki play soccer on day one!” Not sure I believe this allegation…
IS EMILY BEING A DIVA ON THE SET OF THE SOW? IS SHE MAKING DEMANDS OF THE PRODUCERS? DO
^^^If truly a quote from a source close to Emily...the above in red is ludicrous and way naive! Not saying Emily isn't going on for love...but can't say the same for past leads and that source would answer from them!
Maybe they mean that the contestants do not get paid for going on this show so they better be open to finding love?
Love Me...that definitely sounds more like it.... the comment in red screams 'producer = close source' to me!

It was quite evident that Matt did not come over here from England free of charge to do the show just to "find love." I have no idea what he was paid, bu paid he was, and they fixed his teeth while they were at it...
Although her salary is disputed, the fact that DeAnna was paid to be the Bachelorette is not because she has discussed it herself, and even Ashley said in an interview that what she was paid to be the Bachelorette was not enough to cover her student loans. She did not deny being paid for her role.
Brad said he was not paid the first time, and we generally believed it because at that time the only two leads we believed possibly had been paid were Jen Sheft ( generally believed to have been paid $60K and very possibly Travis Stork who might have been helped with his student loans as an enticement to appear as their dream come true lead doctor).
I am not having trouble with the rest of the article. Maybe it is because I know what they have done to past leads and contestants alike, and if Emily could call certain shots, good for her!
Why shouldn't she demand decent, quality men? What is wrong with asking that they film in Charlotte, especially if her F1 could well end up in Charlotte if his job works that way?
We don't know what was going on with that boat thing in Bermuda, but I remember a participating team with Jillian in Canada that "won", and they surprisingly(??) had all the good choices on it as well. That team (Reid, etc) got to spend extra time with Jillian as I recall.
If time counts, and if Emily is serious, then she needs to make every moment count. Again, good for her.
Also, I would want "only the most mannered guys" myself. What the heck?? Who wants a bunch of jerks?
I think this article is making a mountain out of a molehile myself.

I agree that I don't see anything wrong with what she demanded. I'd demand the same thing ;) , not sure why, but people now are making negative comments about her wanting most manner and good looking guys.. maybe jealous much? ....

Well they have to have something to complain about! I don't blame her one bit either! If you want me to do this show, then make it accomodating for me to do. After watching Ashley go through all the bull she went through with Bentley, any sane person would be demanding the same thing, especially one with a child! As for the deal with putting all the guys she likes on one boat, I would't put it past them to do that, its just how would they guarantee that team to win?

I agree with you also Bloomers. Those media outlets have to write something that will grab attention, so they look for drama anywhere they can find it, even if they have to make it up. :pullouthair:

Matt Grant was paid $60,000 for his role in the Bachelor. Brad turned down the money since he picked no one the first time.
As with so many things, there is the story told, and there is the story itself.

I think the team with Reid and Ed lost at curling. I remember them being bummed out after Jesse made a great shot to win. Having said that, unless the game is fixed it doesn't make sense to stack one team with all your favorites.
I think this article made a lot about not much. I do think Emily got paid and special considerations including (obviously) filming some of it close to home but that doesn't make her a diva in my eyes.

I agree with you albean (and I have missed your posts!!!) I admire the way she is presenting her needs and she needs to protect herself, her child, and eventually the man she picks in the end (if she picks anyone)
And I also do remember Reid being on the loosing team. I also remember him wearing his glasses on that date (I fell in love with him on that date)

Thanks, jello. I'm being really selective where I look because I'm trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible. It's been made easier by just having moved to a new (to us) house and trying to get settled in. It doesn't leave much computer time.
I wasn't really a fan of Emily getting the gig this time around but am looking forward to it anyway. I always love the Bachelorette and it will be nice not to be all that invested in the lead this time around. I think she'll have some great guys to choose from. Of course Ben had a bunch of great gals.

Considering the article referred to her hometown as "Charleston, South Carolina" as opposed to Charlotte, NC, I wouldn't put too much stock into the accuracy of it.
